For light DIY duty and portability, cordless is nice. Furthermore, this one is keyless chuck. Much easier to change bit.

Need to take care of battery though. The best if it is not use for long time, keep battery half charged to prolonged its life.

#2 Cordless drill driver (GSR120LI) can be useful for screwing and unscrewing whereas normal high speed drill don't have torque control (it will still work, but abit harder to control and you risk stripping screw head if its a long and tight fitting screw). Do note this tool is not extremely powerful for drilling (max about 8mm or so wood plug in brick work).

#1 and #3 here are basic power drills first and foremost, not really suited for screwdriving.

All these (#1-3) will NOT be useful for concrete drilling for more than 1-2 holes of wood plug size - you will spend ten minutes per hole.

Hi all,
If precast slab wall, is it require rotary drill to drill the wall? Or impact, hammer drill is enough?
Can recommend suitable drill for personal use?
Thanks
*
Concrete slab aka RC wall aka reinforced concrete, you will be best suited with a SDS+ rotary hammer. Drills in seconds.
You can still survive with a normal "impact drill" for 1-2 holes max (wood plug size) and luck on your side (don't hit a stone or hard patch). This normal "impact drill" will take minutes to drill one hole in RC wall.

Corded one.. can get either makita HR2470 (around 4xx) / bosch 2-24 (around 4xx) / stanley rotary hammer (around 260). Want cheaper can consider DCA/bossman tools, it should work for home use lah laugh.gif

Cordless one.. you will need to invest in big battery (~260 for 4AH) and fast charger (~105), but the tool itself is not expensive (around 350-ish) based on my purchase of GBH180Li solo unit.

The price premium of cordless one is the convenience = no need to worry about finding power socket/extension; corded ones listed above are usually more powerful than cordless equivalent of the same price range.

Hi guys, i am looking for a compact impact drill to drill small thing like speaker hanger etc for my home. I have a big old school corded for heavy drilling but just need 1 for hassle free small hole drilling for brick/concrete wall. I saw there are brush va brushless motor. Brushless motor kinda much more exp than brush, but i not sure if occasional use only do i need brushless motor?

And i wanna ask a noob question, if i wan to fix a plate with 8mm hole to the wall, what drill hole size should i be looking for?
*
If the plate is 8mm hole, I assume you will be using some sort of sleeve anchor, max u can go will be 5/16″ bolt, used in combination with a 5/16″ thread sleeve anchor.
Bring the plate to the hardware shop to confirm the bolt thread fits the plate you are mounting.

Hole in wall is based on the external size of the sleeve anchor so you will probably end up with a M10/10mm hole IIRC.

Brick wall can use normal impact drill. Concrete wall is >9000 times harder than bricks so a rotary hammer is recommended - especially if you're talking about using a M10/10mm sized sleeve anchor

12x12, almost 6 inch thick. Sudah beli, mesti pakai. The day before buat 5" dia exhaust for dryer.

Chisel sudah tumpul, then cannot use grinder to cut because the whole house dusty nanti. Still cannot find proper dust attachment for grinder.

I would normally use grinder to cut a groove. Than rotary hammer to have a clean hole cut.

So no need to cement repair the crack edge. Which is very ugly after repair. (Not my expect)

I saw many grinder dust extractors in Shopee that would work for Bosch and others. I think around RM60~70. Some with different size attachment for rare size as well.

Yes, without dust extractor it become very cloudy like thunderstorm is coming laugh.gif

mmng i want to do that, but that is my TV room...its going to be super messy. However, the ventilation fan covers all the crak anyways, so no extra work required, i considered that masa buat kerja too.

Grinder dust goes everywhere. Had to grind off wall like /_\ so my cabinet drawer can open without scraping the wall, that created a desert storm.

For this hole i would draw the outline of the hole with marker pen
Then pick the least used drill bit to be condemned for this.. maybe 8 or 10 mm (hardly used)
and drill a series of holes near to each other within the hole lines like ..........
So its easy to chip off using the rotary hammer and makes a very clean line rclxm9.gif

Hi guys, I've been reading past thread and started to narrow down from cordless GSB 120, to wired GSB 10RE, GBM 350 and now GSB 500RE because it encompass masonry, wood, steel and concrete... but seems like my journey is not over yet. Seems like all the model I listed are at most an impact drill.

Now I wonder if I should look for rotary hammer because 500RE is not that great for concrete it seems. Perhaps as a beginner looking to just drill holes for the blinds, screws and cloth hangers, 500RE may just be enough. I keep reading that I should opt for rotary hammer, but are they over kill for the purpose I just mentioned since they can be bulky and heavy?

If rotary hammer is an overkill, should I opt for GSB 550RE, 13RE, 16RE or 1300?

Need sifu recommendation here. Thanks in advance for your time

What kind of wall do you have?
Brick wall (clay or sand brick) = any >500W hammer drill will do (bosch GSB10RE). This will NOT work well for concrete wall.
Concrete wall (RC wall/AAC brick) = investment in rotary hammer is needed (bosch GBH2-24, Makita HR2470 or any other rotary hammer using SDS+ drill bit) else you will struggle 10 mins per wall plug hole - rotary hammer can do in 10 seconds

The above are corded (wired) models.

If you wanna do cordless u need to invest in battery and charger.
Nowadays cordless tools are cheap (comparable with wired models prices) if don't count the batt and charger price.

Cordless drill+driver for brick wall onlyGSB180-Li, will work great for drilling wall plug and as cordless screwdriver.
Around 180-220 for tool only, some c/w carrying case some without - when you shop on pee pee

Cordless rotary hammer for concrete wall GBH180-Li around 350 for tool only

It depends.. I also like to take up same building (that I stay in) punya small job like hanging picture frame wall plug drilling coz almost every wall is concrete/AAC block brows.gif A couple jobs paid off the GBH 180-LI' you recommended me earlier on thumbup.gif devil.gif

Some condo very tight timeline, only can drill within 9am-1pm so every minute saved goes a long way to complete the job in time rclxms.gif
