Hi Bro Azraeil,

Appreciate if you could advise me on this.

I have received an invitation to attend an interview from PCSB for the position of Senior Geoscientist.

According to the HR, it is a direct hire contract employment. And if I pass the technical assessment and are recommended for a permanent position, then only a structured interview will be conducted.

My concern is after the two years contract, how likely PCSB will absorb a contract worker to be a permanent one? And do you have any idea why SI is so important to hire a permanent staff?

Thanks a lot.

I cannot answer you on how likely is it that they will hire you on permanent position. As for why they require an SI for permanent position, it's part and parcel on determining whether you are a person that they want to invest in the long term or not. I'm pretty sure your CEP (Current Estimated Potential) will also be assessed during this SI thing. (Not sure if HR still uses CEP, cause during my time my CEP was about Gred 29 or GM position at the time).

Thanks azraeil. According to the manager, the reason to hire on contract basis for the first 2 years is to avoid HR protocol. Wonder what that means?

HR Protocol means the mamager is trying to avoid the delay in getting you in. HR creates all these protocols to make sure they exist in the company. Otherwise, they are a bunch of useless fella. Sorry, a bit of a rant. You can take the DH route and once you're in, maybe after 6 months, talk to the manager and indicate to them that you'd like to be in a permanent position, the process will a lot less painful if you are already in the system.

OIC. I have never worked as a contract staff before and I don't know how it actually works. I heard no medical benefit and bonus will be given. In that case, I guess expecting RM25k / month is still acceptable.

Hi bro, would you mind if you can further explain on CEP ? How do we can know our CEP?

I'm not sure if they still have CEP in Petronas but when I was there, there is this thing called CEP which you're not supposed to know (only your boss knows so you can actually ask him/her about it). It basically gives an indication to Management about your future potential in the company. If your CEP is high let's say SGM Level, then supposedly Petronas will keep an eye on you and also tailor some sort of career development for you to help you achieve the CEP. I call BS on this one. I think CEP is just one way HR discriminates against their own staff. There have been loads of cases whereby a lot of the staff were denied promotion because supposedly they have reached their CEP ceiling (apparently you can never reach your CEP, so if CEP is SGM, then you can only reach GM level ... see why this is BS). A caveat though, I am known in the forum to hate HR with a vengeance ... so you make your own view on my opinions). I see them as useless appendages that the company doesn't need.

Hi, ya i am actually their sponsored student and just completed my studies. So your friend told you that most of the fresh grads will be getting their offers in September? By the way I am in technical field hmm.gif
*
yeah, that was what she told me. Its either September, January or April. However since you are a Petronas scholar the process should be much smoother I'd assume, as they give priority to their own students. Im also from technical field but im only a Mara scholar, just graduated as well xD. However don't take my word for it, my friend is hr for non technical department, so she can only assume as well tongue.gif
