Based off my past experiences with Minix devices.. Firmware updates, good after sales support, online community, easy to root and unroot, official Kodi backers... They ship solid hardware + software (most importantly..close to stock Android experience) combo.. They also stand by their devices..

Just to name a few..  smile.gif
True, my U9 already recieved latest 004 update that fixed the dark color issue. And from youtube review, all Beelink 912 (maybe all 912) box has the color issue and not sure if it ever get the firmware update that fix it.

It's about USD63 without the wireless keyboard add on + Shopback 8% cash back. Quite a fair deal.
Initially wanted to go for Nvidia Shield 2017 but 3x the price of Beelink. As I have the tendency to upgrade boxes when it becomes outdated, so I opted to save the money now for one or two future "free" box upgrade.
Of course NS 2017 is much more superior than Beelink.
Thanks for the info. thumbup.gif i also think Nvidia Shield is the best powerful option if one likes the androidtv, but never try due to its limitations. After trying mibox, it actually just need to sideload app and it will be working just like normal android box.

Although there's none msian team playing in the finals of India Open, there's a really good HD channel under the Sport section ELTA**HD in Cloudtv2 apk

I'm hooking an external 2TB hdd to my beelink box. However, I need to let Kodi scan through the media files to generate the list of playable music files. Is there a way to bypass this or another music app which can scan and save that list instead of rescanning it everytime I reopen the app?

Thank you.

I believed you has turn on the Library auto scan.

Go to setting>media>Library> uncheck the >update library on startup

Imagine Android TV box is a huge Android smart phone. You will need to install your own apps to get it running. biggrin.gif

Honestly speaking. I will stick to Astro for simplicity and reliability, at least it will not be shut down by those so-called providers.

Very easy for man who knows where to look and how to apply.. Difficult for others... smile.gif

Age old questions.. Unless you are live with em or your old man is well versed on using and sourcing for links on the Internet.. Get an Astro subscription for him and leave it at that.. He'll bless you for that. This is especially important if you won't be around to do the maintenance that such devices require. The fact that you ask such questions already tell that you have very limited knowledge on the stuff.. So read up or stay away. It's really that simple.

You know where to start.

My 2 cents ...

Do that in parallel for a few months.

Keep ASTRO. Get an average TV box RM300-500 (China brand assuming you are Chinese, easier for your dad then).

Write down the basic steps in how to watch CCTV-4 etc etc. Written steps are 101% better than verbal steps.

Let him try it. He can use ASTRO if there are problems.

Then after 6 months, let him decide on whether to stop ASTRO.

Old or not, any one can still learn to follow some basic steps.

Trouble shooting, however, is another story.

After 6 months, either lugi the RM300-500 or start saving on ASTRO fees! Ha.

All the best.

IMO if you have relatives/friends with Astro (and having the channels u wanted), you can ask them to supp their decoder to u.
Just pay RM50 monthly for the same subscriptions as the main account having.

After reading through this thread, I've decided to try out the Minix U9-H. Can anybody tell me if where it's available for purchase or can I only get it online?

Also thanks to everyone for this very helpful thread.
