After reading through this thread, I've decided to try out the Minix U9-H. Can anybody tell me if where it's available for purchase or can I only get it online?

Also thanks to everyone for this very helpful thread.

Mainly online.. AFAIK, Minix does not have an official distributor in Malaysia... You can check out the garage thread too, perhaps a seller can cod with you. I'm all for local purchasing when possible. biggrin.gif

I really can't fathom how people just waltz into a thread and not bother to read a couple pages first or at the very minimum, the very first page.. doh.gif

Was it working before you rooted it?

There was some active discussion on root cloaking few weeks back if I recall...

TBH... I don't understand why want to root boxes unless you want to change ROM...

let's find some answers to this "root". biggrin.gif

i also dunno why people root any box.

maybe it's a myth that with rooting, a box becomes superior?

.. can anyone with a good understand explain the reasons for rooting an android box?

.. i can imagine rooting lets u get access as admin and muck around with the firmware.

.. what popular apps need rooting to work?

.. what other advantages with a rooting box? faster, free more memory?

.. what are the risks of rooting a box besides voiding the warranty?

.. what else?

These are a few things.. their importance varies from individual to individual.
*Six Axis app: For wireless game controller support.. PS3, PS4, etc.
*Ads: Block ads in any app... Get rid of at least 95% of ads from apps.. Makes for a more pleasant experience.
*Titanium Backup: Real device backup (apps, their data, wifi networks, etc).. handy in case of a factory reset. You'll be up and running in minutes.. 1-click setup...automatic restore.
*Flash custom ROMs/Kernels, etc..
*Having system-wide access also allows control over bloatware/pre-installed malware... basically, you can completely delete or disable any app.. be careful, delete the wrong one(s) and end up royally screwed.

As for how safe it is to unroot your device. That lies entirely on your firmware... Coded properly and you should experience zero issues... Else, you might suffer a soft brick or even worse... a hard brick, making your device a paperweight/door-stopper..  tongue.gif

You have to unroot.. I've tried various root cloaking methods and couldn't get it to work.. Don't need it and so not bothered to go deeper..

A rooted device in the hands of a power user is quite frankly, far superior to an unrooted device. I do not purchase any device that can't be easily rooted and unrooted at will.. Especially mobile devices. Which I root from day one or flash a custom ROM immediately.. See my previous post for an idea of what can be done with a rooted device.. Much more can still be done. nod.gif

I don't see that's a need to root if you can sideload the APK's you want. Unlike IOS jailbreak. I jailbreak because of the system shortcut. smile.gif

No. I haven't tried unrooting my box as I am worried if it will affect other apps. Mine comes pre-rooted so no choice. Sigh.

The one that is not working, what's the error? Also displaying you are using a rooted unit?

Again, that messge about rooted device is a another bad myth, bs.

One of my devices, unrooted still get that message.

Other two unrooted dun get that message, can install, can browse, but just cant load anything to play.

I do not hv the explanations but i suspect astro has spent money and resources to track almost all boxes and block them.

All mobile android or ios devices are fine.

Devices with google androidtv also fine.

Thats what i think.

Sifu AVFAN has said it all..The app is finicky and I'm guessing, can identify real or pseudo remnants of a rooted device. Could also be a block by their devs on TV boxes... In which case, simply checking to see if output is being done via HDMI, is enough to trigger the app's "lockdown". I'll test the latest app on the Neo U1 to confirm it's still working. The folks at Minix work their firmware to be friendly to such apps.

True, if all you require is apps sideloads. FYI, IOS jailbreaking is nowhere near Android's rooting. Folks jailbreak IOS devices just to get features that ship as default on stock (unrooted) Android OS. tongue.gif
