I had the problem and I wasn't aware of this fix, but a couple of days ago I applied all available updates from the Play Store and now I can access the settings again. I'm using Minix U1 FW on a Beelink. I can't remember offhand if the contacts app was one of those that got updated.

True and the license has to be installed with special hardware before being sold or device brought back to manufacturer for updating. It cannot be included with an OTA update in future. So either a device has it or it doesn't. 
There's a "Smart YouTube" app? No need until that, at least with most new devices today. Even the older Minix Neo U1 can output YouTube video @ 4K using the regular app or Kodi addon. Pretty sure this new Mecool KM9 will be capable of the same, perhaps even HDR too..without resorting to hacks.

m8s should be able to get HD
mine is hypptv box, need smart youtube to get HD youtube

M8S Pro L isn't an officially certified Netflix device. It's only getting FHD due to a current patch/hack. Once Netflix fixes the exploit/loophole.. The M8S will either be blocked again or revert back to normal SD res. Hypptv box is a junk box even for the simplest of needs and requires way too much work to get basic stuff done... Worse than my previous & older Neo X7 box.. Pls don't take offense as i didn't mean any.

yesterday oni got chance to play again with m8s, but still asteruk still crash...

boot into recovery, install twrp, in twrp install magisk.zip.

boot into android, install magisk manager apk.
launch magisk manager and hide astreruk go (and hypptv) and reboot. (clear cache + davik)

launch asteruk go, in login screen it still crash?

hi guys, looking to purchase Minix U9-H. But checked in Lowyat Plaza, did not find it. Asked the people in IT Hypermarket, they said latest Minix products are discontinued from Malaysia?

Anyone knows any physical shop selling this box, other than Lazada or Shopee? Checked Shopee and Lazada, but no good reviews for any sellers. So a bit scared to buy from there.

Can you click on the subscribed channel and see whether you can watch it on play TV? Mine prompt error 111 when i click watch the channel.

Maybe try install from Playstore or Aptoide. Your steps are same as mine.

Another tip
Try disable Magisk Hide and run Aotg
Supposedly can run but only can watch Go Shop, Awani
This will determine whether its Magisk or App issue

Cos I remembered trying it on aotg without unroot with mouse it works

You need to solve the crash issue without Magisk to eliminate other issues.

If the box is new and you really want Aotg,  Factory reset and try trouble shoot it first before installing other things.

after launch the app 2seconds, aotg crash... ... cant even see the subscribe
