Funny that you have such a requirement. People use tv boxes as BT sound transmitter instead.

I don't think it will work easily. Need to load special software on both ends. Best of luck.

Then you don't need BT. This subject was brought up because someone wanted to have BT feature on the TV Boxes ....

The BT on TV Boxes are like the BT on phone, they are wired with the software to make them as sound transmitters.

Yes you can.. Just tested using Ipad Air 2 (iOS V11.0) on Minix Neo U1 and the box does act as a receiver and plays tunes, videos & even screen mirroring. How? Each Minix device (last I checked) ships with a genuine license of the AirPin(Pro) app. Means it auto updates to the latest version for better compatibility, features, bug fixes, etc... Using the app, you can enable:
*AirPlay (iOS Video/Photo Streaming)
*AirTunes (iOS Audio Streaming)
*AirPlay Mirroring (@ FHD)... Rotating the device also affects the display too..
*DLNA DMR (DLNA/UPnP Media Streaming
Tested the above and works... easy to use.

The app can be made to auto-launch upon system startup too.

I supposed all these things work in a pair, the sender needs the receiver and the receiver needs the sender.

Problem is whether the Smart TV has the counter part developed by the Smart TV vendor or not, if it is not Android.

From what I read, Airplay's forte is actually IOS, expanded to support Android is a later thing.

TLDR: Nope, doesn’t work.

Pretty much what puchongite commented. The TV has to have said feature for it to work. Can’t speak for the latest tv models .... Mine’s a 2014 Samsung TV and while I can do pretty much everything while paired with Android devices. The TV shows more love for Samsung devices versus non-Samsung devices like the iPad or Google Nexus 10. Though, miracast, DLNA & screen mirroring works between the Nexus 10 & the TV. It’s a proprietary & $$ thing. Plus, Apple is more strict with their ecosystem and would prefer you buy an Apple TV device for such.

My advice is unless you are heavily invested (or plan to) in Amazon Prime, then only you should consider this. Additionally, it has a weird design and looks heavy to be dangling off one’s HDMI port. Lastly, it’s a very unpopular device around here. So limited support.

Amazon has just announced a brand-new Amazon Fire TV that will support 4K HDR and Dolby Atmos, as well as Amazon's Alexa smart assistant. The new diamond-shaped streaming box will hang off the back of the TV instead of lay flat, and be about 40% faster than the current-gen Amazon Fire TV Stick.

Don't really care about Amazon Prime, I'm all about using Netflix, Hulu & Kodi

That looks like a review from the old Amazon fire tv

The whole idea of Amazon building such devices is to bring and keep people within their services. They also make it difficult than normal for other services to work as good as theirs. That review was to give you an idea of what an Amazon box is all about.. For the three needs, these is what most do. Have a smart TV, use the Netflix & Hulu apps on it.. You get full 1080p/4K/HDR with DD5.1 easy.. Then get a good Kodi device.. best of all worlds.. Minimal disappointment. However, if you still want to carry on with the new Amazon TV box, sure go ahead.. IMO, moneyflies.gif moneyflies.gif

Guys, my m8s is acting up lately and I'm planning to get a replacement.

1. Should I stick to these mid range boxes or should I upgrade to the top tier?
2. Which brand recommended for the top tier especially between himedia and minix?

My budget will be 200-300 for mid range and 400-500 for top tier. Thanks in advance for the recommendation
