android box offers u a new online streaming experience compared to yr condemned ac ryan.

however, this box u bought cannot do one thing the ac ryan can do - dtshdma, ddtruhd audio pass thru for playback.

but if u r not into home theater and such videos, it does not matter as u will still get dd and dts.

Sharing my experience.
DO NOT buy AC RYAN product. I used to own a PlayOn 3 Mini. It seems to be a nice product to me when I bought it. Solid casing/hardware, nice and not too laggy GUI for network browsing (not for internet), playing most files until...

I upgraded my firmware and it can't be booted anymore.

1. Firmware download from original website
2. Once firmware upgraded, it cannot be booted
3. Explain via email to support (support crap, reply after few days) and they explain hardware failure without hesitation
4. Asked me to send back the unit to them, support only in Singapore (Of cos i need to pay for the fix)

How can they assure it's hardware failure without seeing it?
Their support simply doesn't care?

Lesson learn. Just to share so that one can consider twice before buying
P.S. - Search the location of the company and ask any Spore friend, what's that place like

Thanks for sharing..

Nah, performance should always come first.. Money can be saved. Better to delay a purchase to get one's money's worth and very little to zero hair pulling over issues. Just solid performance all the way. Good luck with the mibox. I'm no fan of that either. smile.gif

Haha, taking a balance between performance and budget only. I was replying to AVFAN that those higher-end audio feature is not my primary concern at the moment. Obviously we expect certain level of performance and I was saying Mi is doing good so far (2 days only la). I guess no harm give it a try la for Mi Box. Only if Apple TV can support more files.. LOL

Yeah, i get.. We all don't boast unlimited budgets. Besides, there's paying too much for a device. Speaking of paying too much.. The Apple TV puke.gif puke.gif ..wait.. puke.gif puke.gif .. Let me know when it can play .mkv files.. laugh.gif

Your perception are very much locked down on the old apple TV-3 device. Those able to JB or apple 4 that has appstore are much powerful nowadays. The only down side is they hold back 4K. Other than that it can play whatever vid file format with purchase apps. biggrin.gif

Fortunately such perception is not shared worldwide. Neither is it misplaced as it is still very much a crippled device, even today.. Compared to alternatives.. To play simple mkv format (which in itself is simply a container and can be played for free out of the box on other devices), that also needs to jailbreak. Just like their PC OS, doesn't support the popular NTFS format out of the box.. With Apple everything, must jump through unneccessary hoops just to gain widely accepted formats. Have no idea how they can still keep claiming to be "innovators". Take 4K and HDR, perhaps in 2020, they'll launch the Apple TV 6 or 7 and guess what.... Their ads would be like "This is the completely new Apple TV, watch 4K videos like never before... bla bla".. doh.gif .. laugh.gif

Apple TV doesn't allow plug in HD. It designed only used NAS over Apple airport/capsule. To play these files you can used free apps from itune store but if the user want to open all the function you need to pay for the full function. Apple NAS streaming over apple devices rocks. even until now. others hard-drive streaming not even come close to what apple home network system can do. It's really smooth.

Apple devices is not for everybody. Just like android TV newbie need to learn from the net what the device can do. Android TV were design what apple TV shortfall. It is understood.

Actually there is no point to argue since you have negative perception on apple products. LOL laugh.gif

To be frank If the TV you bought has 4K HDR. For sure it has the media player to play such files. Why you need to buy another box just to play these files. you can just plug in your Hard-drive into the TV USB port and click on the media players that comes with it.

The TV boxes are meant for streaming. Apple selected legally. smile.gif

I do feel sad about your AC Ryan. hard to believed the hardware failed so easily. dry.gif

I dont have a 4K tv neither my TV can play any movie. It was planned since day 1 that 1 want a dummy tv, attached with either a tv box or pc. I guess everyone use it differently. I mostly use it to stream from my NAS which consist of files of all formats. So Apple probably not suitable for me. Also, Apple price come with 32GB storage which is something I don't need too. I actually impressed with it's smooth performance when i tried it at my friend place.

Oh! Apple airport/capsule comes with 2TB/3TB, it also works as a Wifi network repeater/swtich. Whatever files you place in there the media players works. just that you need to know what player to used and it compatible with Windows and android. My Windows laptop/desktop, Macbook, android phones, android TV box, iphone/ipad can watch TruHD video streaming without problems. smile.gif

Yes yes.. Users who like to jump through hoops to perform simple functions. As for NAS streaming, bruh, it's mainly about having a healthy network. My Minix Neo U1 + a healthy network + laptop streams smooth and guess what, no hoops to jump through or required to buy/locked into more Apple devices such as the AirPort Extreme or AirPort Time Capsule.. Those ain't cheap either.. I can use my equally simple yet powerful TP-LINK router + a WD 3TB ext HD.

It's as you say, it's designed for a specific market.. Just like the Chromecast or Roku.

Oh! if I'm not wrong your router don' have 5ghz wifi and don't play wifi vid streaming so well. My apple capsule are more than 6yars old and it already has 2.4 & 5ghz wifi feature back than. Th new apple airport has Giga speed wifi.

Time for an upgrade, Airport HD is all in one. laugh.gif

Impossibru!.. It's the TM issued router and it does have AC 5Ghz wireless and gigabit ethernet.. tongue.gif PC is just one wall away.. Or yeah, having a gaming grade pc does help too.. If I wanted more features like a download master, etc.. I'd just get the Asus RT-AC55UHP or higher. All will still perform better and are far cheaper. The Apple AirPort Time Capsule with 3TB storage costs RM1800. Even after paying such, I would then have to beg it to play nice with my Windows 10 installation.. laugh.gif laugh.gif

I has been using the 5ghz wifi before TM router change to 2.4/5ghz router.

I can't setup like you because my two sons are using the 5Ghz wifi from the capsule to watch youtube or play online games, my wife surf ipad using it, if she goes up to the bedroom she'll watch online TV dramas from the Tv box. I'm using the capsule wifi downstairs on my laptop streaming or download and watch online TV shows. One capsule with everything running together It doesn't choke up.

I'm happy with the setup for years. laugh.gif

Windows 10 paired with airport. No problemo! smile.gif

Haha, nice info exchange between both of you smile.gif smile.gif smile.gif
Honestly, i never doubt the capsule performance although i never own one yet. I have to admit, the price is probably the biggest drawback. Anyway I'm happy with my current Synology. Perhaps a capsule in the future thumbup.gif

Last time I only used the capsule for wifi/swtich and back-up but after I cut my Astro line. I come to aware how the capsule can in-cooperate into my home network vid streaming. It is just amazing of an 6years old+ device can do.

btw! I'm not promoting apple products. Just sharing my experience on home vid streaming working together with my Android TV boxes. smile.gif
