You are right. Intel wins by default for AVX512 workloads. AMD is not even in the race.
AMD has clarified that 90C for 5000 series is to be expected. However, I am unsure if the throttling has been improved at above 90C.
Yes, very well aware of Intel chips being happy to sit above 80C even on laptops. It's really fun when trying to use them on your lap.
Multiple respectable sites are quoting extremely high temperatures even with 280mm AIOs, not just Anandtech.
Also, as long as Anandtech is using the same cooler for each CPU review, it is not an issue.
It's not the power consumption that is the issue, it's the heat generated from that which is annoying for me.
Can you point me in the way of an article discussing the average power consumption of AMD actually being higher? Interested to read up on that.
Not a fan of any company here too - buy whichever that makes sense and useful to your workload. But I am pretty annoyed at Intel's laptops always trying to airfry my thighs.
The high idle and higher power consumption is often a topic here actually. even just a few post above people are discussing this and they use power plans to dial down the usage at the expense of performance for lower idle temps and consumption, and change the power plan accordingly by usage.AMD has clarified that 90C for 5000 series is to be expected. Well you dont normally see this in reviews because all they do is max out benchmark and get the max results. They never record data like power consumption over 10 hours of browsing or music playback and gaming. However from AMD users especially some of them here who checks their hwinfo logs, that is what they noticed including myself. I remember my 3600 will go max all core 4.0ghz hitting 80C for just playing some flac audio files through foobar2K with some plugins... had to compromise by converting all my files to ALAC and play through itunes lol
