QUOTE(shikimori @ May 6 2017, 04:56 PM)
just got my hand on the MSI GTX 1080 ti gaming X

May I know are the scores okay for an old i7 2600k  sad.gif
Your score
Core i7-2600K
17711 15395 9340

My scores

Ryzen 7 1800X
14184 12521 8556

Core i7-7700K @ 5Ghz
19240 16401 9210

biggrin.gif

What can you derive out of this?

1. Your system is plenty fast
2. At 1080p your card is not performing at potential
3. At 1440p your card is not performing at potential
4. At 2160p heck your score even better than mine by a little bit so what factor it is left I don't know but it's negligible.

The key point you need to know is that Stormblood is not demanding on the CPU and is not a good representation of games in general. At Full HD I saw that the CPU load on average was less than 50% on all cores, at 4K UHD the average is under 20% and more often than not the cores show single digit load.

Don't gauge with scores, scores tell you nothing.

Go with the average FPS.

Thanks for the reply , really appreciate your output . This 2600k is really a beast been using it since 2011 and still alive till now regardless of the punishing OC I torture it .

Kinda tempted to upgrade to 7700k since can get my friend to help with EPP purchase but I think ima wait for Skylake X or Kaby lake x . For now i'm playing on 4k TV and the input lag is sweat.gif

How about waiting Cannonlake rclxms.gif

Sandy Bridge wub.gif My i5 2500K OCed to 4GHz and can still handle most modern games thumbup.gif just 10-20fps lower than non-OC Ryzen 1700 in DOOM ( maybe not even that much as I didnt test DOOM for months, and driver/patch could had optimize games further )

Nice explanation. From my understanding, the higher the resolution, the less CPU bound it becomes and more GPU bound... That's why CPU bottlenecks "reduce" or "less likely" to occur as the resolution goes higher. hmm.gif

Because GPU workload exponentially increase with resolution, while CPU workload is the same.

This is correct.

Even during Riva TNT days with sub 500Mhz processor, testing was also same.

If overclock processor and see frame rate improve, it means the game / test is CPU bound.

Check out the benchmark for my GTX 1080 Ti review.

You'll see that the gap between Intel vs AMD setup is closer when on 4K Reso.

note: i be gaming at 1080P though

6GB does give quite some advantage on certain titles.

Good if can go 6GB, as even 2 years old GTA 5 will consume more than 3GB on 1080P sweat.gif

Volta is out of the bag!

Expect Q1 2018 for consumer GeForce-Volta based GPUs (or late 2017).
