Hey guys,

I am currently looking for a new credit card because I don’t think I am getting high cashback from the amount I am spending.

My breakdown of credit card monthly expenses as below:
Dining - RM 500
Grabfood - RM 500
Groceries - RM 600
TNG - RM 200
Shopee/Lazada - RM 300
Medical insurance - RM 450
Maintenance fee - RM 350
Maxis - RM 250
Coway - RM 85
Shopping - RM 500 - 1000
Petrol - RM 200 - 300

1. Annual Income: RM 408,000.00

2. Free Lifetime Annual Fee: Prefer to have no annual fee or at least able to waive by calling customer service.

3. Card required for: Petrol, Cash Back/Rebate, AirMiles, Free Airport Lounge Access , premium card

4. Existing credit cards (if any):
HSBC Premier World Master Card
HSBC Visa Signature
Citibank Simplicity Platinum
Maybank Amex Platinum (never used, plan to cancel)

5. Interested in CC from: Citi Premier Card, but the annual fee of RM 1K is ridiculous

6. Others: Perhaps I am looking for 2 different type of credit cards. First one to maximize the amount of cashback from petrol, groceries and other spendings. Second one, premier status credit card with access to airport lounge, but i hate high annual fee!
*
Dont cancel the maybank2 amex plat. Pay anything on weekend except government and utilities can yield you 5% rebate

Your maxis, petrol, grocery, dining, shopee, lazada all can use amex. Even grabfood direct pay with amex (not grabpay). But i can understand some ppl find amex or having to do it over weekend only is troublesome. But overall good card.

Other cards for you will be
1) PB VS 6% cashback for online and dining and grocery and lounge access
2) maybank 2 card premier for airmiles collection and lounge access
3) rhb shell
4) maybank visa signature for petrol and grocery rebate. This one very specialise.

Actually i still use amex for lots of things. Shell/petronas for petrol, high end dining, fast food dining, major groceries chain, departmental like aeon/isetan. I use amex for car insurance and fire insurance via etiqa.

But you can go for PB Visa Signature and PB quantum - online/grocery/dining/anything you can wave
Or maybe maybank visa signature - petrol/grocery
Affin - ewallet top up/online/insurance

If you paid tax, means you submitted BE, you can use that as the document for you to apply credit card. Still subject to approval. Try apply affin duo, good for your spending.

If rejected, then you may approach the banks that ok to do FD pledge.

QUOTE(mojo86 @ Apr 7 2022, 11:17 AM)

3. Card required for:

Looking for unlimited cashback/reward card for large sum purchase (million annually). Last time, I found the Alliance Visa Platinum is best because it provides 8X points which at the end , converted to voucher, about 1+% cashback.

Anyone know any better options? business card will offer better?
*
I think business card more suitable based on cursory glance.

I mean the normal credit card sure got limit. And not like you can use maybank 2 premier amex for everything to get the valuable airmiles conversion since amex accpetance kinda not good.

Or...HLB essential credit card? You can check out their website.

hmm the 5000 points for 1000 airmiles is certainly a good exchange rate, but that 800 annual fee is a bit much. need to spend 80k to waive it. thats a lot…
*
There is indeed "no pain no gain" for credit card rewards. Mbb 2 card premier is the best. Maybank has been nicer these 2 covid years and offer lower waiver requirement to 50k.

Another option is or used to be the alliance visa infinite/platinum card. But ever since they set a cap of maximum 8x points that can be earned, that sort of got nerfed. You can still check it out.

Also for MBB 2 premier is it possible to waive the annual fee with treatspoints?
*
To answer this. Cannot.

The rest. Dunno how to comment. Cause i dont think my household can keep the m2premier for long either. 50k still can. Almost scrap past. Yes. I use for insurance, else cannot hit.

2. Free Lifetime Annual Fee: A Must

3. Card required for: Cashback, airmiles

4. Existing credit cards (if any): Maybank 2 Platinum

5. Interested in CC from: Any

6. Others:
Average month expenses Petrol RM200, TnG RM150, Groceries RM400, Dining RM400, Food deliveries RM250, Car loan RM600, Utilities RM200, Yearly flight RM5k

I need advice on how to maximize credit card usage for cashback + tips on using CC with ewallets to match my expenses. I only applied the MBB 2 credit card because that's the most common recommendation out there, but now I have tracked my monthly expenses, I'd like to tailor my CC usage. There are so many options out there, I'm not sure which CC is suitable for which expenses. Really need all the advice, thank you!

Most common recommendations are
Public bank quantum
Affin Duo
Citibank cash back

You stay on this forum long enough, you will learn alot.

QUOTE(2s012x @ Jun 1 2022, 12:12 PM)
1. Annual Income: 100k

2. Free Lifetime Annual Fee: Ideally. But I used card frequently so if the min.spend & transaction count is reasonable should be fine.

3. Card required for: shell, groceries shopping (Aeon), online shopping (shopee), (buy games on steam, PSN, Nitendo - not sure if this its own category), pay bills (mobile, tnb)

4. Existing credit cards (if any): HLB GSC Credit Card

5. Interested in CC from: Any bank as long as I can pay loan and check transaction easily via phone

6. Others:

I rarely use cash nowadays. Its always CC or tng ewallet.

Petrol usually Shell/Caltex/Petronas because better accessibility at my environment (<RM500/month). Don't mind to change the petrol station preference if needed (since I dont own any rewards card like bonus link etc).

Non-online shopping (Aeon, 99, FamilyMart) and dining via CC or tnG ewallet (RM150-RM500/week). I always pay for meal up front then collect from colleagues afterwards hence why the big number.

Spend quite alot via online shopping (shopee/Steam/PSN/Nitendo). Not sure if Steam/PSN/Nitendo not sure is it same category as online shopping or not. (min. RM500/month)

Pay bills (mobile, unifi) (<RM300/month)

Ideally cashback. I doubt I am smart enough to use all the 'rewards/voucher' that comes with limited date.

Generally I am very 'oblivious' when comes to all the benefit. I did't even applying for a CC. My existing card is just a tumpang application when I apply for car loan. Now I am trying to see if there is any benefit I can squeeze from changing from the HLB GSC Credit Card to new card because this card literally offer 0 benefit to me (I rarely watch movie).
Thanks in advance!
*
For petrol, mobile and unifi, games, can consider maybank 2 card amex. The downside is you need do everything on weekend. I have partner who buys on steam, so we always wait till sale on steam and buy on weekend. Places like aeon also accept. Shopee accepts amex but too many vouchers reserved for shopee pay.

Then ewallet can look into affin duo.

Else PB visa signature is a good card overall for online, bills, dining, grocery.

1) maybank amex or maybank petronas. Amex can be use to cover maxis, time, petronas but must be weekens only. Can cover major grocery

2) citibank cash back

3) public quantum maater

Not one card will cover all the category you listed

Suggest maybank 2 card amex for petrol. Downside limited to weekend.

Shell, petronas will accept amex. Selected petron also. Not sure about other petrol brand.

uob one card.

Maybank 2 card amex can use to pay mobile bills cause the major telco accept amex also. i think most ppl at least have 2 confirmed expense payable by amex, phone and petrol. but yes, maybe does not justify the RM50 if not much expenses.

1. Annual Income: RM150k

2. Free Lifetime Annual Fee: Preferably waived. But if benefit exceeds the small amount of fees, can be considered

3. Card required for: All petrol stations, grocery, e-wallet top-ups (TnG), utility fees; also for my monthly payment for life insurance/medical card

4. Existing credit cards (if any): Maybank 2 Platinum

5. Interested in CC from: Open to any suggestions. I'm looking for cards with good cashbacks. I easily spend about rm3k monthly via my credit cards;

6. Others: I would like to have paywave function on the card. Also important that the bank has an app to allow me to check and pay the balance with ease.

sweat.gif hope money sifus will help me with good ones. I've been scrolling around ringgitplus, imoney and comparehero for comparisons. Too many choices and i'm flooded with too many informations.
*
Combination of your maybank 2 platinum and PB VS will settle grocery and petrol. Weekday use PB VS, weekend use M2 Amex. Petrol for amex may be limited to certain brand. PB VS covers utilities too.

Less hassle everyday use for petrol and grocery - maybank VS but with high min spend to waive annual fee.

Limited cashback, limites by category but good return - citibank cash back

Affin duo cashback - insurance, ewallet top up

SCB liverpool and maybank barcelona has very similar feature. 1% cashback on almost everything. Each has slight different exclusion. I would cancel liverpool because liverpool exclude insurance. My big expense is insurance. That's me la.

If you want the easier route, maybank2card premier then collect miles lo. Consolidate all to 1. Else just have to track accordingly. I'm tracking alot, for myself and spouse also. Hard work... not for everyone.
