I see that those with better rates are 12-months tenure. Is it advisable to put 12 months?  Or try to put shorter term first and wait next year Jan or Feb?
*
depends on your financial needs, if u didnt use d money for one year, better put in one year... if u need to use within 6mths, might as well put it in 1/2/3 mths... perhaps ucan try ocbc, they have a savings ac with 5.1% pa...: terms n conditions apply

FD at HLBB due today. Thinking which bank to put next. Best would be OCBC 12m 4% valid till April 2017? BR I placed one FD already. Looking for another bank. Call me silly but I always worry to put all my eggs in one basket hehe

the pidm limit if for each name.

meaning, if u put FD under name A and some under name A and name B
consider 2 x of time

The limit is per name per bank rite? Example 250k in MBB and 250k in RHB and 250k in BR = all under my name. This is fine rite?

Seems like lots of people know a little about PIDM but not enough that matters. There are a number of postings about PIDM, but it is still subject to the real happening test. Then only we will really know for sure how good it is for some unasked questions.

In a bail-in, PIDM wouldn't help.

Stop asking the obvious questions and answers. You won't get anywhere far or useful.

The devil is in the details. But then anybody ever had to use PIDM before? Otherwise it is all talk about various operational details in various scenarios which may result in some heavy thinking and some changes - not necessary for better and could be worse. But like I said, there are postings already in internet about PIDM and there really is not much need to rehash an old subject in a forum for FD when PIDM covers more than FD.

Yes, these are 2 interesting questions. Of much higher social value than talking about RM 100 k or 250 k FD. Hope there are other savers out there who can answer this.
Most bank websites or banks mention the minimum amount for opening FD certificate at their normal board rates. Can look at long term rates.
Some banks offer children savings or education accounts with special gifts - compare these against the FD rates.

Went to ocbc yesterday, the premier customer counter staff told me the FD promo rate is for 3 months and 6 months only. 3 months 3.95% .....nothing mentioned on 4%.

100 or 100k also normal nowadays. bank won't turn a hair. rhb offers extra 0.05 for premier banking.

It gives you the "feel safe" feeling what.. like why people buy insurance- same concept; different approach.

You will never know until it hits one day.. like Northern Rock in UK.

So best to have coverage. My humble two cents. whistling.gif
