I also just checked with Am Bank 2 mins ago, they told me 4.4% for 1 year FD was still available until the end of this week.
*
As informed by Am bank Penang 4.4% for 12 months and other rates remain till 8 June

QUOTE(BoomChaCha @ Jun 5 2018, 02:59 PM)
So you mean the interest rate will go down lah... sad.gif
This means Bank Islam 2 years FD at 4.65% is a good choice now, but beware that Bank Islam should not pay interest for Saturday & Sunday.

Just called BR, BR said no FD promo now..
*
Yes. The interest may go down. CIMB does not pay interest on weekends and public holidays provided you go back to the branch you made the FD placement.

HL bank is the official agent for ASNB. Currently they have FD bundled with ASNB promotion. FD rate 8.88% for two months. 1:2 ratio. 1 for ASNB. Take note the ASNB sales commision is 5%.

I was thinking of either CIMB or Am bank. Went to CIMB since I have overlooked my FD matured on 1 June. Worst premium customer service. Waited for 1 hour 15 minutes and still not yet my turn. Have to leave the bank as I have other things to do.

CIMB came out with a competitive rate may be because seeing many current FD depositors withdrew money. I withdrew mine two weeks ago.
*
Today went to Muamalat to take out matured FD. Rentas out, RM5. Two times experienced Rentas took 2 hrs or more to reach CIMB. My relatives experienced the same thing. Not sure it is related to the issuing bank or not.

Went to CIMB to get 12 mth 4.4% with monthly interest. Was asked if I want interest on maturity or monthly interest. Opted for monthly interest.

Talked to CIMB RM. The 4.4% is for selected customer only. Their "normal" FD promo is 12 mth 4.25% for conventional and 4.3% for Islamic FD. It is up to the CIMB branch to select and inform customer on the 4.4%. The additional interest paid out will affect the branch performance. So they would choose those customers that have investment products with them.

Anyway, anyone can try to ask to get the 4.4%. biggrin.gif

One more thing, it is for fresh fund and it is Islamic FD for the 4.4% 12 mth deal.

Does any one know if a foreigner can invest in fixed deposits in malaysia? The interest earned seems better in malaysia than singapore

If you are in Singapore, why not just take a short ride to Indonesia? Their FD rates are much higher and still better even after 20% tax.

Currently seems that Muamalat does not encourage to withdraw FD with cheque (actually I felt it is disallow, as the officer keep saying cannot issue cheque). So yesterday I also did Rentas and thought it would be real-time transfer to Ambank, when arrived Ambank just checked the fund is not in yet. So went back home for 2 hours and later come back to Ambank for 12M 4.4% FD.

I think Rentas depends on issuing bank, I saw on some banks' website saying Rentas should go through Real-time immediately? But didn't try before in other bank, so can't compare.

If Muamalat is discouraging cheque issuance for convenience sack, it has really caused much more inconvenience for customers.

Ya, from my Rentas experience, Muamalat one is the worst. Unless something happens to the Rentas system recently. May have to do with their approval system etc. Plan to even close my SA with them with my last FD end of the month. tongue.gif

But Rentas is not really real time, Real Time Electronic Transfer of Funds and Securities. Has to do with some internal system of issuing bank etc etc. Not too sure what is involved in this banking xfer.

Anyway for Muamalat, do have to factor in about 2 hrs or more for it to appear at the receiving bank, for FD withdrawal. doh.gif

Some banks like MBB, once I stepped out of the bank, the Rentas is received. As I received SMS confirmation from receiving bank that the xfer is received. thumbup.gif

i had problem with Muamalat also, refused to let me withdraw FD with 2 names, either one to sign.

Either one to sign , i expect I alone can withdraw , but they insisted both must sign, ridiculous!Wasted my time, spent 1hr.
Add salt to wound, No interest for 2 days, Sat and Sunday, hantam a letter to BNM to complain.

Finally after 2 signatures signed, paid RM2.65 for the cheque, put in CIMB 4.4% monthly interest.

They let you withdraw by cheque? My branch here insisted cannot issue cheque, and the Rentas is charging RM5 yet late to received! doh.gif

I found this bank is rather inefficient and inconsistent in their policy. I've called the HQ before for the weekend interest, HQ said can claim back the interest. But later when I go to branch, the officer said cannot, as the FD had been auto-renewed and I have to hold it for 1 month in order to get the interest, unable to claim back the 2 days interest as it was forfeited as pre-mature withdawal).

Pls update us if any feedback given after complain to BNM.

They are doing the same practice like pbb- that’s why I’ve stopped dealing with them. They only allow inter branch withdrawal if amount is below 20k. Otherwise it’s a no.

Rentas is always the preferable method. If you walk in with large amount of cheque from different bank, they will question about it but using Rentas, no questions asked.

Isn’t it better to terminate than rollover another one month at board rate? Or they have given better than board rate.

Keep us posted. Good to know next year how I’m gonna deal with them.

Their cheque is in multiples of 30k which is rather redundant and end up whole stacks. You can reserve cash up to 500k for withdrawal from my last meet up with the bm.
