miyabi san please do explained more about oem os and what do u mean by unique each other due to license key? enlighten me please!! onegai shimasu!!!
*
oem os (original equipment manufacture operating system) = the license/activation key is tied to the machine. means, once installed to one machine, you cant use that os for other machine.

regarding the recovery cd/dvd by sony, sony includes all its drivers along with oem os for one computer in its recovery partition. you cant separated the drivers from the oem os when using the recovery disc created from recovery partition.

for example, you cant use SZ48(A) recovery disc for another sony computer(SZ48(B)) since the activation/license key of the oem os is tied to the computer motherboard(SZ48(A)).

love the sr series..nice sexy looks and feels..it's kinda like fw resized for mobility. even the lid cover design is similar to fw. but it's pity sr12 doesn't come with gpu and one have to add another 1k but for the upgrade to sr13. but i wonder why they bundle sr13 with vista business when clearly sony themselves categorize sr series for home use..?
*
nah, sr = home use/office use. while you getting the sr13, they include also win xp downgrade cd too. so yeah.
sony actually list out 3 type of business use which are, bz, z and sr.

Hm.. guess if one wanted to buy an SR-12, better upgrade the RAM to 3GB rite? Is there any difference with or without the integrated graphic card?
*
the more ram you have, the smooth the performance is.
the difference is the one with integrated gpu have long hours battery life than the dedicated gpu. if you wants some gaming especially current games (of course the setting will be either medium or low) in your vaio, get the dedicated gpu.
though intel hd4500 is prolly enough if you are always do online gaming and some light gaming. even its benchmark higher than old nvidia go 7400.

the new sr comes with hdmi port and an upgrade of memory gpu to 256mb ddr3 for its ati gpu.

the only regret is the dedicated memory for the ATI GPU is now 256 instead of 128...higher spec for less price!!

Added on November 21, 2008, 8:20 pmguys, need some help. i want to uninstall some of the bloatware sony has include in my vaio fw12 since i'm not using much of them. but dunno which one is actually necessary n needed by vista and which one can be safely remove. any advise?
*
if you are unsure, just leave any running service related with sony
eg:
# SonyUtils DLL
# Sony Shared Library
# VAIO Event Service
# Setting Utility Series
# VAIO Control Center
# VAIO Power Management

next disable the startup item, go to run, or just type at search (start), type msconfig,
go through startup, then see any program that useless to you, untick. same goes with service tab, disable by untick. like myself, i disable any program, that rarely use, for instance, vmware running service.

its really depend on your computer anyway.
best still is fresh install provided you have another legal copy of vista.

I know I've posted droolage on the Vaio Z before, but goddamn! Vaio TT is going to be available soon here!? That is so drool-worthy, 11 inch at that screen resolution, and still able to play BD? Wow! shocking.gif

Surfing around at the moment to check out the price of Vaio TT, but it will be a tough call between TT and Z. They are both so yummy! drool.gif
*
both of them enough to make Daniel Craig drools.

is it VAIO battery is not long lasting?
*
not long lasting? its rely on how you handle the battery, and also the specs of your notebook.
i can say that, vaio with integrated gpu can up to 3 ~ 3 hours and 30 minutes with stock battery (application use: browsing, IRC, torrents), srsly. i have try it. thats on Napa platform which my VAIO currently use on.
and of course, new version of Intel platform, like Montevina might boost up the battery life around 3 hours ~ 4 hours.

Hm.... wondering if any of you created a partition on your Sony Vaio & install XP? I notice that a few games & software are still not compatible with Vista (like FIFA 09.... if change to 800X600, it would not start... same goes for NBA Live 08 sad.gif). Wonder if it is a good idea.. manage to get the driver from Sony website which they place on the 13-10-2008. Anyone?
*
if you have all the drivers , why not? i am using xp sp2 currently , downgrade from vista due to programming task and their compatibility to xp only. no problem encounter.

black cs = ar series haha, and yes its kinda thick for 14.1", should make it to 15.4" (i miss the old fz series sad.gif ). i like cs since its eliminate the static problem on cr which is one of design flaw by sony, and not to mention the wobble battery pack on cr.

The wireless switch is for both WIFI and Bluetooth. When you slide it to OFF position, both interfaces will be disabled. You have to use Sony's software utilities to manually disable either one of these interfaces. Alternatively, you can go to device manager and look for bluetooth module. Right click and disable it. On the SR, there's a control panel located on the top side of the desktop screen. SR users can easily switch off and on any of those interfaces.
Yeah, the battery indicators are a bit wacky. I posted the problem here but it seems like it is a normal behavior for Sony Vaio. When I first got my SR, it only charges until 90% and it keeps charging for a very long time.  After a few rounds of usage, the battery goes 100%. Strangely, if your laptop is switched off when it charges until full, take off the adaptor, starting Windows and you will see your battery levels have gone down to 95% and then 88% is no time!

Or when your VAIO is switched on when the battery is charge till full, plugging the adaptor off and your battery levels drop down to 90-95%. Putting the adaptor back and you see it charge for 30min-1 hour. I guess thats some kind of trickle charge to slowly bring it back to 100%. So that gives me an impression that the Windows battery indicator is not accurate with VAIO laptops.
*
maybe its due to battery care functions? just a wild guess.
but theres is an issue of battery drainage (where the battery charge to 100% and keep in the laptops for some time.)

ye..ye... weird indicator. It can goes to 96% to 88% and back to 95% in a few seconds. Thinks this is a bug.So how wabout the fan? Mine  office 's dell is a very quiet lappy but not this vaio. The fan activate in the interval of every 5mins.

i cant really remember, but you can try take a look at VAIO Control Center for fan/cooling speed, iinm.

i would certainly go for SR25 if i want portability.

i have test run with CS16, the build is fine, the screen is beauty, and the cooling system play better job especially when running intensive program. i have play Bully Scholarship Edition with medium~high settings, the game runs smootly (4gb ram, nvidia 9300gs), and the notebook have acceptable warm.
still if you want hardcore gaming, get other gpu. 9300gs still a mediocre gpu, tested by playing The House of The Dead 3 with full settings (800x600), and its lags.

imho, centrino 2 (Intel P series processors) plays better role in heat system. i can say that, its less hot than early batch of centrino core 2 duo (Intel T series processors). both series i believe doesnt have heating problem smile.gif

yes, you need to make a recovery/backup cds/dvds for your notebook on first switch on.

Now only i know its being assemble in Japan but the componet is made from China.
I really keen on the CS series cz its cheaper compared to the other series. Any1 used that series before?
Can let me know the performance?
Thx guys
*
Ive test run the unit, below is what i can say:
1. decent CPU in term of performance and power usage.
2. not too hot when under running cpu/gpu intensive program.
3. kinda thick, heavy for 14.1" class notebook. and yes its sturdy built.
4. beauty by its glossy interface and color
5. bright and crisp color lcd.

Performance, its moderate. if you opt for nvidia 9300gs one, the card can run low to medium setting for current games, due to its 128mb dedicated gpu, and if you dont mind about its poor mobility, this is the best one sony can offer, else opt for FW series which slightly bigger screen than this one.
