Hi. I bought an Illegear Z5 2 years ago and now facing problems because my computer cannot start. I can enter the BIOS but the Windows screen does not appear (stuck on the illegear screen). Specifically it comes with Crucial MX300 M.2 275 GB mSATA (plus the other solid state hybrid HDD).

Running a bootable Windows USB to try to diagnose what happened, few things was deduced :

1. When trying to check the mSATA drive via CMD prompt, it feedback I/O error (cannot read). The other drive no issues. Can see directory and files.
2. When trying to reinstall Windows, it shows can't read. The partition is revealed however just that can't access. I have not tried formatting.

Hence, few questions :

1. What could be the possible problems for the mSATA drive and what further things I should look out for as I plan to open up the laptop.
2. What mSATA model I should purchase as it has a second slot and I plan to load another mSATA drive while trying to recover the old one. I notice few form factors so am confused a bit (newbie to mSATA here).
3. Does Illegear sell replacement mSATA drives and how much?

This are initial queries. Any help is welcome. Thanks!

1. I/O error means sadly the drive has died. It can't even query. That's the fact , you can try data recovery - to salvage the data from it

2. This is expected again due to I/O error. You can try to format it - but you'll hit I/O error sooner or later

--

1. Basically it's dead , could be due to wear/tear or you just got a lemon unit that went south
2. Feel free to pick up any drive. You can get one off Lazada and DIY yourself

Hope it helps

Good to hear still got warranty. I would like to recover data from the drive though.

Btw, do you have stocks for the same drive or similar as well? Can i Straightaway buy from you, and fit it in while you remove the old one to recover?

What do you think could have cause it? FYI, my laptop sits on a glass dining table (where i normally used), was not moved, and then one day it just cant enter windows. Is there any software related actions that could have caused it?

Heat....or just unlucky....wear and tear item

Nah it's not software..I/O errors are typically hardware .

Hi terry,

Usually we need to send back to crucial for diagnosis, if they can repair they will repair it. If not, they will replace with a newer model.

For the time being, we do not have the utilities to conduct data recovery services on our end but for recommendations, you may find the service offered under 3rd party service centers (eg: TechHypermart) or on the LYN's Service Noticeboard as well. However, we could not guarantee for certain in regards to the success rate, hope this clarifies.

Just want to chip in, AFAIK data recovery is an expensive process.. even that there's no guarantee that you will get your recovered data. As a rule of thumb, it's better to always have your important data in SSD backed up somewhere else, since unlike mechanical hard drive, SSD dies without warning. Hard drive on the other hand, dies slowly and usually it will give you warnings before hand. Btw I read somewhere someone mentioned that SSD dies like heart attack (suddenly) and hard drive dies like cancer (slowly, so usually you'll have enough time to recover or backup your data).

Hello, I bought an Illegear Z5 Haswell model 2-3 years ago, my charging power port has broken. Is there anyway to repair it and how much would it cost me? Below are some pics for more information.
