what is serverpartsdeal equivalent in MY?
*
serverpartdeals comes with a 2 year warranty and free shipping within the US. i'm also wondering the same time.

Also keep in mind serverpartdeals rep is good for this, and they even have 2 year warranty whereas other places might not for these kinds of drives or even shorter warranties which is not very reassuring.

Amazon US does ship to Malaysia but... bear in mind the risk of damage during shipping. My personal experience in shipping HDDs since 2019:

Domestic Amazon USA shipping + hand carry back to Malaysia: 3x 16TB Seagate Ironwolf = all ok
International Amazon USA shipping to Malaysia: 2x 16TB Seagate Ironwolf = both DOA (dead on arrival)
International Japan shipping to Malaysia: 2x 16TB Seagate Ironwolf = 1 ok, 1 DOA

I believe the drives were damaged during international shipping even with Amazon's usually very good packaging. So beware.

Following this experience, I don't plan on shipping HDDs from overseas anymore. If I get to travel to US for work anytime soon, I would order from Amazon and hand carry back. Otherwise, I would stick to SSDs for international orders.

the drive is in the "end of life" stage, backup your data and replace it asap. if you still want to keep it, suggest read only, not recommended to write data to it anymore.

run the smart test from time to time, if the number of error sectors keeps growing, replace the drive immediately.

i assume you're looking at prices for 1-2 tb? in that case, sata ssds can be cheaper than hdds. for speed, most people have already switched to nvme, and for capacity, larger hdds, typically 4 tb and above, are the go-to choice. if 1-2 tb is enough for you, then now is a good time to buy.

Your PC is 12 yo, your HDD/storage doesnt have to be that old. If its telling you to change, its time to change. HDD is affordable as dirt and Seagate shopee has deals + 12.12 incoming soon. I gotten a 2TB unit as spare storage for my backups at nearly half its price after discounts & vouchers.

Not getting your point. If you are not planning to do any other thing, then why even bother to get a new ssd or hdd?
The mx500 can store your data equally well.

I think the rest of us thought you wanted to have a large storage on your old pc. But now it seems you don't even want that.

Just discovered this thread. Ppl in the industry will tell you - the HDD have spares sectors to cater for bad sectors - when bad sectors start showing up in SMART, the spares have been used up and your device will likely experience slow downs and slowly lead to not able to be detected, or knocking.

Rather than spend thousands on data recovery, why not go and buy a new HDD/SSD and back up the data? Saves you the headache later. Many have lost years of photos to hard disk failures, but cannot afford to pay to get them back. Ball is in your court.

Don't hope, do what is within your control, like you mentioned, back them up to the external drive. If not enough space, back up the most important data first.

Should be able to last you for another week up to 12.12 sales. Better dont procrastinate to get a replacement HDD. When both those smart errors comes that HDD is on its way out sooner than later.

Interesting read about HDD counterfeiting operation. Raid just outside KL. SMART data were erased(reset), hdd cleaned and repackaged as new. Then sold at below market price on e-commerce platforms.

If anyone else bought any drives and did the smart test i recommended for seagate for the farm data and u detected its not brand new. i suggest u immediately contact shopee and ask for a refund. Point them to this article as ur reason. If u wait too long, may be harder to get a refund.

Make sure u backup first though
