QUOTE(incognitroll @ Nov 30 2024, 04:33 AM) the drive is in the "end of life" stage, backup your data and replace it asap. if you still want to keep it, suggest read only, not recommended to write data to it anymore. run the smart test from time to time, if the number of error sectors keeps growing, replace the drive immediately. No idea need buy new HDD, but very less seller sell now Or randomly pick SATA SSD, boot drive already using mx500, that HDD just store data, file

QUOTE(incognitroll @ Dec 4 2024, 12:07 PM) shops like tmt, all IT, and asashi sell hdds if you need a replacement. they have physical outlet and online stores on shopee and lazada. just random check, acer SATA SSD is more cheaper that normal HDD, which is below 200, never saw anyone use

QUOTE(babylon52281 @ Dec 5 2024, 04:09 PM) Your PC is 12 yo, your HDD/storage doesnt have to be that old. If its telling you to change, its time to change. HDD is affordable as dirt and Seagate shopee has deals + 12.12 incoming soon. I gotten a 2TB unit as spare storage for my backups at nearly half its price after discounts & vouchers. That the plan to move out all file to new HDD, if this pc kabut can just move to new pc I don think there is any different for the brand right, as saw main brand only got seagate, wd, toshiba

QUOTE(Wedchar2912 @ Dec 5 2024, 05:19 PM) Not getting your point. If you are not planning to do any other thing, then why even bother to get a new ssd or hdd? The mx500 can store your data equally well. I think the rest of us thought you wanted to have a large storage on your old pc. But now it seems you don't even want that. Read my old post, maybe last page, because SMART got 2 caution current pending sector count, value 1 uncorrectable sector count, value 1 Not sure anything to worry or not

QUOTE(Wedchar2912 @ Dec 5 2024, 05:27 PM) Others already informed you. Good luck. QUOTE(AbbyCom @ Dec 5 2024, 05:29 PM) Just discovered this thread. Ppl in the industry will tell you - the HDD have spares sectors to cater for bad sectors - when bad sectors start showing up in SMART, the spares have been used up and your device will likely experience slow downs and slowly lead to not able to be detected, or knocking. Rather than spend thousands on data recovery, why not go and buy a new HDD/SSD and back up the data? Saves you the headache later. Many have lost years of photos to hard disk failures, but cannot afford to pay to get them back. Ball is in your court. Hope does not any bad happen too fast, or just copy to external driver first Any brand of internal hdd make different right
