Where to check Maybank Credit Card exchange rate?
If now USD to MYR is 1:4.45 What is the rate Maybank charge if I spend 1USD? More than 4.45 or? Please advise for both Visa and AMEX rate. Which one better for overseas? |

QUOTE(jiaen0509 @ Feb 19 2017, 12:23 PM) The better rate is higher than standard exchange rate or? Here is just an example. For example, today 1:4.45. Will Visa charge more than 4.45 or maybe lower than that? VISA - 1 USD = RM 4.45 AMEX - 1 USD = RM 4.47 So if you're spending outside of Malaysia its not good for you because you will end up paying more on AMEX compared to VISA for the same amount spent in USD. Everynow and then AMEX gives a better rate but you will not know who will give you a better rate as you will only see it when the charge appears on your statement / transaction on online banking. |

QUOTE(jiaen0509 @ Feb 19 2017, 09:52 AM) Where to check Maybank Credit Card exchange rate? i normally just check on google USD to MYR .. then add 5 cent .. For example, Google shows RM4.42 per USD, I will calculate based on RM4.47. It wouldn't be accurate but close enough to real figure. If now USD to MYR is 1:4.45 What is the rate Maybank charge if I spend 1USD? More than 4.45 or? Please advise for both Visa and AMEX rate. Which one better for overseas? thanks. |

Sure higher la boss..Bank rates always higher, some more they will charge you another 1-2.5% overseas swipe fees on top of the rate.. so you will only see the final rate which is around 4.5For example, today 1:4.45. Will Visa charge more than 4.45 or maybe lower than that? I think for mbb, amex charge extra 2.5%, visa is 2%..You should call bank for exact percentage This post has been edited by red_scorpion: Feb 19 2017, 07:20 PM |

I ask back 'Confirmed?' he said Yes~ Maybe he means the rate Maybank initially records at the time of transaction (like a provisional amount). However, I think the actual rate charged is still based on Amex / Visa rates. Also, what about the additional bank charges? I think Amex charges 0.5% more if I recall correctly. There's more discussion on this in the pinned foreign exchange thread. The first post there marks Maybank visa as having a lower bank charge than Maybank Amex. Can refer there for updated details and searching Maybank, as many forummers have shared their real life transactions. This post has been edited by lilsunflower: Feb 20 2017, 01:18 AM |

QUOTE(cybpsych @ Feb 21 2017, 12:36 PM) finally they feel the pain well. i had zero spending for the last 6 or so months.hopefully they didn't revise the t&c. too bad many merchants now don't accept Amex. The website says 1 March but the memo says 15th since spending is based on calendar month previously, i don't understand why it should start from the 15th This post has been edited by janson_kaniaz: Feb 21 2017, 01:30 PM |
