Check out Thai Airways.. recently they are having promo of return tix for RM 375 (incl tax). I check for Dec and the price was RM 425 nett. Really cheap for thai airways, never see their price below RM 500 b4.

Depends on when you travel. Many tickets RM 212 only next month but weird traveling days.

Checked on travel month Dec 2016, the price is good actually but the travel time is not suitable, either you depart early from KUL or BKK

the lowest fare i've come across is rm 169 by airasia but that's years ago
nowadays lowest is rm 198

well it depends on you.. if AA is RM 300+, i would go for Thai Airways, as different is not much, but thai airways is more comfortable. w 30kgs baggage & meal. Not mistaken for AA, as the date gets nearer, i think they will UP the price..

How about Malindo? They have more spacious legroom as compared to AA right? If insurance option is chosen it's additional RM40 per pax so around 370. Do I actually need the insurance?

I fly every month from Hatyai airport using Thai Airways and it is at least RM 300 just for one way if i bought last minute ticket for a Monday morning 6.40am flight.

But usually the round trip price is 3200 baht.

Max luggage weight permitted is 20kg but usually if over 5kg you can easily talk your way out of it.

I cant say much abt Malindo as I only tried Malindo to Penang. Have not tried their Intl Flights. Not quite sure what is provided.

I go to Bangkok often and normally I do price comparison between AA and MAS. Hardly check Thai Airways pricing as they are always on the higher side. What I normally do is, check AA & MAS, if price different between AA & MAS is very significant, then I take AA. If not much, less than RM 100, i will opt for MAS. Sometimes AA may look cheap in their pricing, but dont forget you got add baggage,meals,seat, etc.. so it may add up to alot. But this round, Thai airways seem to be throwing price and RM 425 to me if acceptable, so will go for thai airways.

as for insurance, i dont normally buy unless im taking long haul flights. But you can consider to buy if you are comfortable with..

Thai Airways would be the best of all. Big plane versus the boring Boeing 737 and Airbus 320. They give 30kg of check-in luggage allowance and 3-course hot meal served on a proper tray.


You won't be sorry. They have always been the best on this route dated back to the 90s. Last time they served a 4-course meal but now it is down to 3-course meal, still much better than MAS anyway.

In the late 90s a return ticket on Thai Airways cost slightly over RM1,000 and at the time, one had a flexibly to choose to fly with MAS or Thai Airways whether you were holding a Thai Airways issued ticket or MAS one regardless your ticketed class. Last time if you take the morning flight from BKK to KUL, they served a huge variety of pastries such as Danish bun and Croissant besides the regular bread roll. An orchird flower will also be given to passengers before landing (flights out of Bangkok only). Those were the days.
