Latest rumours:

1) Touchscreen is almost confirmed thanks to published patents.

2) VR ready for future ( but i doubt the praticalibility without a hi-res screens and more processing power and not interested anyway).

3) System will runs at higher clock speed when docked.

4) It use a Tegra X1 Maxwell Soc albeit customized, not the Parker Soc.

I am interested in item (4). Means the switch will have about 512GFlop (32FP) compared to nearest competitor Xbox One (1.3 Teraflops).

Of course, with a customized version and overclocked when docked. We could be seeing maybe 20-30% boost.

Which realistically it will have maybe half the FLOPs processing of an Xbox One.

I think this is the most conservative scenario i feel safe to bet.

Anyway, it is still a number and actual performance might be more than half of an Xbox One.

Regardless for me, i am still buying it.....it will be likely 3 times the power of a Wii U.

Still the most powerful handheld console and most powerful hybrid console....haha.

oh well, traditionally Nintendo hardware always lagged behind the likes of Sony & MS
hardware powaar is not their forte, as they are building a hybrid portable system this time, anymore more powerful than a PS4/XB1 is a hindrance to the portable system, too power hungry, batt life/ heats/ size will be a big challenge

So if they said the new console is having around the 50% power of a XB1, I would say that's realistic enough

but then, Ninty gonna play catch-up to Sony/MS again like WiiU in the graphic dept.
New players nowadays are more demanding in graphics, lesser on the gameplay, unlike the old fags like us who are more into gameplay than graphics, so Ninty will have a hard time to capture the attentions of newer gen of players.

Also for those NS buyers?

I think majority of the buyers will be either long time Ninty fans, or those multi-consoles players (PS4/XB1 owners), buying NS as their secondary or 3rd consoles.

Most first time buyers usually will go for the PS4/XB1 rather than NS

Not really. Nintendo kinda beat MegaDrive with SNES (better in color, but a bit slower in speed), and N64 was considered the most powerful 3D system at the time vs the original PS and Saturn.

But they have given up the arm race ever since Wii i think.

I think we can forget about Switch being equal in performance to XBone (no need to mention PS4). A portable tablet vs full console. There won't be any magic to defy law of physics.

But as long as it can at least somewhat reproduce 80% of at least XBone, coupled with the fact of being a handheld console, it is poised to take over to become the 3DS successor as well, which is long due for replacement as well. So the console bit is like an added bonus to be push together.

The switch will become the only handheld console available on the market now that SONY has exited the handheld race.

What i am hoping for is...CHEAPER GAMES. 3DS games seems to be way cheaper than Wii U games. If this pricing strategy continues, this i believe will be the biggest push for the switch, coupled with "good enough graphics". And a solid 3rd party support which is much evident (compared to WiiU's launch).

Frankly i have watched several PS3/XBOX360/PS4/XBOne comparison videos....graphics really jump from PS3==>PS4 is not so huge (check those Tomb Raider compairson videos etc..always only 2 things improved...light source HDR and shinnier water reflection). I believe the Switch can produce better graphics than the Xbox360 (even the Wii U can, as proven by Bayonetta ). Thus, the Switch will be able to produce near XboxOne level graphics, minus some fidelity which you won't notice unless you compare and pause frame every video.

doubt NS will replace the 3DS
Ninty gonna release a new portable in near future to replace the 3DS, which also will complement the NS, I'll bet on that

Why? simple, you can't fit the NS into your pocket! laugh.gif

If I were to get the NS, I probably only will use the portability within the house, especially in the toilet tongue.gif
but for daily commute? no, it's too big and cumbersome
long commute or long flight? maybe, but I'll still prefer something smaller like 3DS XL/PSV

Nope. No way.

Nintendo's whole idea for switch is so that they can focus all their development resources on one platform. Most people have a handphone for that purpose, playing those sampah phone games.

You want a real game, carry a small bag with an NS. biggrin.gif

Hell. Last time i use 6.3 Samseng Mega semakphone. NS is only rumoured to be 6.2" screen (but with bigger bezels). But yeah. Pocket is still not possible i guess...but i think 3DS or PS VITA also not pocket friendly....so not much issue.

Soon, Man bags of NS sized will be an in thing in Japan fashion....LOL.

So it's NS also targeting the player base of the portables?

will those 3DS players willing to swap to something much bigger and more expensive? Something less portable as the 3DS?

It will be a great risk for Ninty trying to merge their consoles market with their handheld market with NS,
as currently even WiiU is a flop, Ninty are still being save by the huge profitability from it's handheld market.

So if this time they put everything in one basket, and if it flopped, I doubt Ninty can ever recover from that flop.

Which is why they say the switch is not to replace the 3DS blah-blah...wait till the NS sells like 10 million in the first year, then i will bet they will change tune. If the NS flopped, then i think they will release a handheld to replace 3DS and give up the console market altogether....which i hope will not happens.

How naive people are thinking the Switch can be on par with XB1 with today's battery tech and 250-300usd price range. 😅

Only 2 weeks away from the official Nintendo reveal on Jan 12.

More speculation from me, (let's see if i kena or not...lol):

With the conflicting rumours of Tegra X1 and someone claiming the Switch more powerful than expected, i bet on this:

1) It WILL be a heavily modified Tegra X1....with additional Cuda cores...X1 has 256, so this may have 384 to 512 cores. Which explain the clock speed even when docked is 7xx Mhz as rumoured compared to X1 on Nvidia shield which runs at 1Ghz. Maybe by doubling the cores and reducing the clock speed, it increases performance while minimized on heat output and battery consumption. When docked, the clock speed is about 300Mhz, with double the cores, it will raise it performance to maybe near Tegra X1 performance with 1Ghz.

2) It will be an X1...in parallel dual-chip configuration. shocking.gif biggrin.gif

3) It will be a Parker SoC after all! Maybe a customized one, less powerful than full Parker but more powerful than X1....which explains Nvidia explanation of "Based on the World most powerful graphics card blah blah blah" in their website.

So there. If i am right, who will spend me KFC????

Conlanfirmed all the typical Nintendo 1st party title lor. No need to say.

But I would really like to see super Mario Galaxy 3 in 1080p....Even remastered galaxy 1 and 2 in enhanced HD graphics I also cukur.

Another latest rumour is Assassin Creed on Switch, Ps4 and Xbox one to be released same time. If the switch version can keep up , then it will be a good sign for things to come.

I don't care for mainstream games other than the fact it will keep the switch alive longer for more 1st party title. Mainstream games looks better on my PC and cheaper to boot.

But more support from Japanese companies like Square Enix is definitely welcomed. Dragon Quest!! biggrin.gif

5th Jan 2017 NVIDIA will be at CE 2017....

Not sure if it's happening now or tomorrow.

Maybe they will leak something on the Switch's technology.
