When set IBIS auto in EM5-II, how to know if it is engaged in a photo?

Do you guys turn off IBIS totally when there is enough light?

No idea about EM5-mk ii auto IBIS so can't comment there,

When IBIS is engaged, you will have more control over your speed/aperture/ISO compared to when IBIS isn't available. The only reason I turned it off (for me anyway blush.gif ) is when I set it on a tripod. I suppose you can turn it off under favorable conditions, to save some battery life perhaps. thumbsup.gif

You forgot to add only when the subject is static. You can't exactly use on moving subject faster than shutter unless you want motion blur.

Generally just turn it off. If the subject not moving and you want clean iso, you can turn it on again at your leisure.

I just leave it on ( EM1 ) all the time ( seldom use tripod ), you'll know if you half-press shutter button and the viewfinder suddenly stabilized.

the "stabilize on half-press" needs to be ON for that to happen (not sure if it is on by default)

When IBIS is in Auto, how does the camera make decision to ON it? By shutter speed? unsure.gif

Pretty sure by default it will turn on when half press shutter. Though don't quote me on that and go test it yourself first.

according to the E-M5 mkII manual,

S-IS AUTO
Auto I.S.
The camera detects the panning direction and
applies the appropriate image stabilization

so basically it seems like S-IS AUTO is just "auto" between S-IS2 and/or S-IS3.

S-IS1 is basically stablizer on (all direction)

also from page 57 of same manual,
Cautions
• The image stabilizer cannot correct excessive camera shake or camera shake that occurs
when the shutter speed is set to the slowest speed. In these cases, it is recommended
that you use a tripod.
• When using a tripod, set [Image Stabilizer] to [OFF].
• When using a lens with an image stabilization function switch, priority is given to the lens
side setting.
• When priority is being given to the lens side image stabilization and the camera side is set
to [S-IS AUTO], [S-IS1] is used instead of [S-IS AUTO].
• You may notice an operating sound or vibration when the image stabilizer is activated.

Understood now that IS AUTO means it is ON. AUTO will decides which mode of IS to use.
IS AUTO doesn't mean it is to decide whether to on the IBIS or not. Thanks. biggrin.gif
