Unfortunately it was raining this afternoon doh.gif I managed some shots with the Canon EF 50mm f1.8 STM on my GX8 via the Viltrox EF-M1:

AF speed through AFS is fast and accurate.

And I have also made a short video on the Image Sabilisation Tests of the Canon EF 70-300 IS II USM lens that I have done a couple days before. Awesome IS! The new NANO Image Stabilisation is just incredible, even at 300mm!!

Here's the video link at youtube: Canon EF 70-300 II IS USM Image Stabilisation Test

That was awesome, i can see trough the water drop. Thanks for the photo.  notworthy.gif

They are straight out of camera jpeg no processing at all, hand held. They can be sharper if I push further but they are are enough to demonstrate the sharpness of the 50/1.8 STM.

nice!
sharp wide open already.  thumbup.gif
if stop down to f3.5/f4 i think can get maximum sharpness.

wow that IS on the Canon is indeed awesome.
*
Exactly, the 50/1.8 is no slouch although small and cheap and the IS from 70-300 II is even more astounding, considering it's at its longest 300mm (equivalent to m4/3 600mm!) and handheld somemore.

The G9 is still using the same old sensor from the GX8 but here in the G9 it seems it has realised its full potential thumbup.gif

I am trying out the Canon m50 with its 11-22mm (equiv to a 17.6-35.2mm) for my upcoming trip soon just to see how it will compare against my m43 combo the Laowa 7.5/2 on gx8 equivalent to a 15mm.

The difference of 2.6mm (17.6-15mm) might not seem much on paper but i will see how it goes.

Arent mirrorless apsc already small and light enough tho?
*
True, but none is a threat to m4/3 until recently when the M50 was launched, and rumours has it that a better canon mirrorless with fullframe sensor is coming in the second half of 2018. Micro 4/3 camp be better to bring up their game. Although the Canon m series has very limited lenses to say the least if not pathetic. Through the use of an adapter will open up this to an incredible range of renowned canon lenses but they will look big, just like the one below shown by @incubus_skj.

It seems lately panasonic (with its G9 really huge) and Olympus (with its OMD mk ii though not much) is beefing up their bodies quite substantially to the brink of comparable to DSLR bodies, I don't know if this is a good thing or not. rclxub.gif

they have one or maybe two good ones but their lens selection 15 nia.

rumour has it canon did not wan to invest in mirrorless lens development because the new FF mirrorless will be using EF lens.

so yeah small body big lens if they go that way.  whistling.gif
*
Really canon FF mirrorless will be using ef lenses?

thats the rumour.
its a game changer if their FF mirrorless is using EF lenses or maybe the system will come bundled with dedicated adapter for it.
they are targeting professionals and with those who already own canon L or EF lenses they can retain their current owners and sway over new users because their EF lens prices are very, very competitive compared to other mirroless systems.
*
I am now trying out myself the m50 but still keeping my gx8 and lenses.

don't understand leh, if you make mirrorless FF camera (ok la small a bit) then still use big lens... what's the point? might as well just use back DSLR

but then again, lately Oly with their PRO lens lineup a little bit crazy, RM4-6k for lenses which are nearly as heavy as their FF counterparts.
*
Both came up with lenses always with crazy prices and size/weight, perhaps this is a clear sign/indicative of what's coming down the line? Contrasting to this, Tamron has last year launched a very interesting lens, its' 18-400mm, yes 18-400mm in quite a very compact format. And Canon M series is doing quite a good job of giving out compact sized lenses as well and hoping more to come. Micro 4/3 should come out more with their own compact lenses and in this respect it has been slugging the past few years, each lens that came out is much much more expensive than the last, making it very very difficult for the ordinary guys to dive in.

QUOTE(COOLPINK @ Apr 5 2018, 12:37 PM)
marketing la - mirrorless = better
but every system still have their pros and cons.

they made a comparison last time with full frame DSLR and sony FF mirrorless.
They are almost the same size with lenses so dun be fooled when they say mirrorless are always smaller.  laugh.gif

It shows the Sony a7RII, Canon 5Ds, and Sony a99 each with a native 24-70mm f/2.8 lens mounted. As you can see, the total lengths are the same. Sony have failed to overcome the laws of physics. If you take something from the camera body, you have to give it back to the lens, and by the same amount.
*
It beats me too if canon FF mirrorless is EF mount instead of EF-M, it defeats the purpose of small footprint for mirrorless, like what was said earlier, what's the point of a small body with a humongous lens? puke.gif

Oly / Panasonic FF coming in the future?  hmm.gif
18-400? thats a huge range. i wonder hows the vignetting from one wide to zoom?

yeah dunno what canon is going to do bcs they have only 15 lenses for mirrorless and most of them are not good.
they are seriously going to be handicapped by their current lens line up.
also i think their current EF-M lens line up is for APS-C so they are screwed just like sony E-mount lenses for A7 FF  sweat.gif

thank god m43 do not have this headache.  thumbup.gif
*
I am still keeping my m4/3 gears atm for sure but there are times I am compelled to try out lenses from EF / EF-S (not only from canon but also from other makes as the range is crazy huge) on my gx8 simply because they are more readily available and some of them are really good lenses and affordable.

Accidentally met some pros doing birding this morning, i don't have enough zoom range, therefore I shoot video instead =P
*
The stabilisation is excellent even on the gx85 thumbsup.gif My gx8 couldn't achieve this with a fully MF lens, however with compatible lens like the 45-150 it sure is amazing. Even the Canon ef 70-300 is ii usm lens on an adapter on the gx8 also perform very excellent.

Good question. Am also wondering about this lens. Am looking for a portrait lens, but this 30mm might just fit the bill.  Otherwise, am going to get the Oly 45mm f1.8
*
Your best bet for a portrait lens, the oly 45/1.8 (equiv to 90mm) or longer, best is the oly 75/1.8 if you have the money to splash. Pana 42.5/1.7 is a good choice too.

mind you 45mm a bit long for everyday usage. 30mm is a nice focal length.
*
True, but not for portrait work which is just nice. 30mm (equiv 60mm) is still a little long for everyday use strictly speaking, compared to 20mm/25mm which is just perfect. thumbup.gif
