Correct. Unless you give up PR before reaching call-up age, if you are a Malaysian citizen with no SG PR but 1 of your parents has SG PR, you are eligible for NS.

And if you give up, can say bye bye to any thought of a career in SG rolleyes.gif SG Govt has damn long memory and is pretty vindictive in this matter brows.gif

What do you mean by "females ok"?
*
nope, that's not right... even if any of your parent is citizen but you dont hold singkie passpork from birth you dont need to serve

means, females renounce pr still can work in sg in the future

QUOTE(atreyuangel @ Nov 15 2016, 03:54 PM)
NS ke Regular ni?
*
its an active unit not regular, so campur but majority 2nd year nsman

QUOTE(atreyuangel @ Nov 15 2016, 04:34 PM)
kenot la, not ethical
but there is a very large gap between NS and our Regular (Msian Army)

they are good, but I am actually looking to see how SG Army regular in this ex compare to NS
*
there's no ethical or not... fine to criticize then only can improve... well, the gap is always known that's why there're things done to make up for this gap..

well, the regular unit hardly attend pr exercises like this, except for regional ct events like the one earlier.. closes is probably 7SIB or adf

Okay, I re-read the rules.
Children of PRs who are also PRs themselves need to serve NS.
So MilitaryMadness I was wrong there.

HA! Sorry, but in my (friend's) experience, no. Female or male, they do take a dim view and query why you renounced PR and then want to come back.

indonesia also have more or less same law in their citizenship law
couple of years ago 2 pr guys got deported from training in indonesian soil
though whether their citizenship is really revoked is not confirmed

QUOTE
2 Indonesians enlisted in Singapore army

Two Indonesian citizens who hold permanent resident status in Singapore were deported to the neighboring country after their status was discovered during joint military training between the two countries in Magelang, Central Java.

The military officials, identified only by the initials CJH and AJ, were removed from the training program after the discovery as the 2006 Citizenship Law bans Indonesian citizens from enlisting in foreign military forces or joining a country that is moving toward or already at war with Indonesia.

Indonesian Military (TNI) spokesman Maj. Gen. M. Fuad Basya said the two officers were immediately deported after the TNI reported the findings to the Foreign Ministry, the Law and Human Rights Ministry and the Coordinating Political, Legal and Security Affairs Ministry.

But he refused to comment on whether the government should revoke the citizenship of the two officers.

'€œThe TNI will let the Law and Human Rights Ministry decide their fate,'€ said Fuad on Wednesday as quoted by viva.co.id. (***)

This Marine tweaked his body armor to instantly treat a gunshot wound

user posted image

QUOTE
A Marine corporal may have come up with a brilliant way to treat a gunshot wound the moment a bullet pierces body armor.

Cpl. Matthew Long, a motor transport mechanic, designed a tear-proof package filled with a cocktail of blood clotting and pain-killing agents that sits behind body armor, which would be released instantly if pierced by a bullet. Though Marine body armor, called “flak” jackets, come with small arms protective insert (SAPI) plates to stop bullets, they can have trouble stopping multiple rounds.

Long’s invention, if fielded, would render first aid immediately, without a Marine having to do anything. The seemingly-simple tweak could save lives when a medic is not immediately available.

The corporal was selected as a winner for his invention in September during the Corps’ Logistics Innovation Challenge.

Duterte approves U.S. assault rifle deal for Philippine police

user posted image

MANILA, Nov. 14 (UPI) -- Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte will move forward with purchasing over 27,000 assault rifles from the United States, reversing his earlier position.

The rifles will be used by the Philippine National Police. Duterte's reversal comes just weeks after the president said he would consider buying the weapons from Russia if the United States blocked the sale. The controversial head of state gave his approval following a meeting with PNP Director General Ronald dela Rosa, who maintained the deal would not meet any opposition.

"We reported to him that the processing of the documents is going smoothly, according to the Sig Sauer. They saw no one is blocking it," dela Rosa told a news conference. "So when I explained that to him, he said 'Okay, you continue'."

Philippine authorities said they began doubting whether the sale would go through after remarks made by U.S. Senator Ben Cardin, a Democrat from Maryland. The legislator expressed opposition to the sale, saying Duterte's human rights violations during his administration's anti-drug campaign should disqualify the deal.

Philippine officials estimate roughly 4,000 people have been killed in the effort, although human rights organizations such as Amnesty International say this number is likely higher.

The United States and the Philippines signed the $34.6 million contract to provide SIG Sauer M4 assault rifles for the PNP in July 2016. The weapons cost approximately $1,300 each, and are capable of firing semiautomatic or three-round burst to support close-quarter combat.

QUOTE
Russian designers are to present the third-generation Ratnik ("Warrior") combat gear to the world in seven years, the TASS news agency has reported (in Russian), citing the press service of the Central Research Institute for Precision Machine Building (TsNIITochMash, a subsidiary of the Rostec state corporation).

According to the designers, the armor will feature an active exoskeleton, which will significantly increase the physical power of soldiers wearing it.

"An active exoskeleton is a mechanism whose hinges are equipped with electric and hydraulic drives, to enhance the possibilities of the musculoskeletal system," said the report.

Netherlands, Belgium join on €4 billion military ship purchase

user posted image

A joint purchase by the Netherlands and Belgium will give the navies of those two countries access to twelve minesweepers and four frigates, according to Belgian media outlet De Redactie. An estimated four-billion euro purchase price will be split by the neighboring nations, presuming Dutch defense minister Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert and her Belgian counterpart, Steven Vandeput, sign the deal later in November.

The cooperation brings down the purchase and running costs, military expert Jens Franssen told Belgian radio on Monday morning. “Belgium and the Netherlands can train crews together,” he said. They can also handle routine maintenance together, as well as long-term repairs, he added. “It is certainly not a coincidence that [Belgium] does this together with the Netherlands. The Belgian navy already works quite closely with the Dutch.”

Franssen went on to say that the investment is important to Belgium because of how dependent its economy is on access to commercial shipping, despite its relatively short coastline.

It is not known if the two countries will share ownership over all of the ships, or if each country is effectively buying half the fleet. Each country’s own specialized knowledge was used to complete the purchase, with the Netherlands negotiating the frigate deal, and Belgium securing the minesweepers.

Analyst: Is RM43b Melaka Gateway for China trade or military?

user posted image

QUOTE
China’s military ambitions as well as the risk of the superpower pulling out of its commitment to the proposed port are the three key points
QUOTE
“There is the strategic element of the Malacca Strait. It always starts with an economic presence, which can then develop into a naval one, because China will be obliged to ensure the safe passage of its commercial ships,”
QUOTE
Chinese firm Guangxi Beibu International Port Group owns 40 per cent of Kuantan port, while China’s access to Kota Kinabalu, a crucial dock in Sabah, is seen as being strategic for its construction activities in the disputed Spratly Islands in the South China Sea.
QUOTE
the reclaimed islands would allegedly be given freehold status while the port would allegedly be granted a 99-year concession. The analysts called such terms “rare and generous”.
QUOTE
World Bank study commissioned by Putrajaya last year had showed there was no need for a new port on Malaysia’s west coast because existing facilities had not reached capacity.
QUOTE
Therein lies the suspicion that the JV is not about trade as much as it is a military move.
QUOTE
“However, if you want to go up against Singapore, then this port makes sense, especially when it is in the form of foreign investment, given Malaysia’s fiscal constraints,”
