QUOTE(guy3288 @ Sep 27 2016, 12:22 AM)
Distribution is meaningless only if after distribution your UT drops and never pick up again. If it gives 2% ( NAV drops 2%) and never gain back its NAV again, of course no use la the distribution.

However if it gives out 10%, and later on the NAV picks up back that 10% , then the distribution is meaningful.
That is 10% return even if your UT stays stagnant from beginning to end of year.

Talk no use, example is here.

I bought Am Asia Pac Equity Income 3 yrs ago at RM1.10++ and it has gone down and down, and i keep buying and selling down and down , now only RM0.94.
Price keep going down, No distribution sure i lose money already

Guess what? i earned RM8000+, it give me an IRR of 9% .

All because of distributions!
So distributions are not meaningless as you would like to listen.

Shit...please don't...again... doh.gif

Please understand what is a mutual fund and what is INSIDE it.

Say, Fund ABC has Maybank, Public Bank and Hong Leong Bank...

So, if u pay out distribution...by some magic will of God, the 3 stocks will go up?
If u don't pay out distribution, Mr Market or God will punish the fund?

Eastspring Global Emerging Market fund has performed remarkably over the last 6 months. Ponzi 1 and 2 too.

Assuming if market talk of interest hike is true, will it be a good idea to dump global emerging exposure? Those market sure will take beating.

Bro, you want some diversity. Try this... biggrin.gif

1. Good investing is like making love. Easy to do, but difficult to master.

2. Investment is like making love. You can't learn it from books. You have to do it often to learn the ropes but precautions are required.

3. Investing without doing research is like having random sex. You will never know what you will catch.

Waited almost 8 months to get my Asian Total Return Fund to hit the 8% goal mark and switched all the units to Libra Anista fund just I have planned back in 2015 december. I mistakenly purchased it based on my emotions and thankfully I didnt lose any money from that ordeal.

I am planning to skim whatever money I make from equities that hit my 15% bench mark and send them to anista as my retirement fund.

Next purchase when pay comes in.

US exposure/Global (Buy In)
-TA Tech(Equity)

India exposure (Top up 15%)
-Manulife India(Equity)

Asia ex Japan (top up 25%)
-RHB Income fund (balanced fund)

Asia Including Japan (Top up 15)
-AMasia Pacific REIT- Class B (Equity-Property)

Malaysia (Top up 15%)
-East Spring Investment Small Cap (Equity)

My FD will be maturing three months from now and I am planning to take out a substantial portion of it and secure it into libra anista fund. The question is do you need to do DCA on a fixed income? the nav is always stable so a DCA doesn't matter anyways.

Thinking of lumping in 10k into the fund but that will offset my entire portfolio to those of a conservative one.

Advise?

I also thinking to REDUCE a bit my holding of Eastspring GEMs. But thinking might top up Global Titans instead to reduce my effective exposure to GEMs. confused.gif

So your plan is, if your equity hit 15% (what is your timeframe?), you will take the profit and invest in asnita bond fund for retirement... but.... how far away from retirement are you?

IMO, i won't DCA on bond fund la. doesn't seem like there's a need for that. although, i have been bitten by 2013 dip (when Mr Benanke said planning to stop QE and bond price dropped..., I no longer hold the said bond fund or any local bond fund).

That's what i thought on the dca on Bond fund. Doesn't make sense. Thank you for informing me.

As for my retirement. It's maybe ill retire at age 70 continuing doing my work to heal people while letting funds run their course so I'm planning short term goals to turn into long term ones

Global Titans? Why US than HK/China? Betting that US rate hike take place, money to flow back to US?

I'm thinking Asia Dynamic. Asia Quantum latest holding show 39% in Malaysia. That's too high considering I have Eastspring Small Cap.

Fed rate hike has potential effects of
- stocks fall
- USD rise

It could be up, it could be down, it could be neutral.

Increase Titans to reduce effective exposure to Asia+GEMs.

Quantum is more on small-mid caps, Eastspring is more on small caps. I think the overlap is minimal.

EISCF invest on small cap not more than rm3 billion (around usd 729 million)

AHSAQF on ther other hand invest at least 3/4 small cap not more than usd 1.5 billion and at most 1/4 mid cap not more than usd 3 billion

Target market differs quite a lot given different region focus and the above investment strategy, so not much to worry about overlapping smile.gif

Pannai, ada buat homework thumbsup.gif

If I were to have both in my portfolio, I'd have them in ratio of Quantum 3:1 Small Cap.

- USD go up
- US exports lose (a bit competitiveness) > US company exports fall > overseas revenue reduce in USD terms
- But Americans' purchasing power goes up > more money to spend domestically > boost domestic spending

So many factors, so many implications.

So I'd say don't think too much, stay your course. icon_rolleyes.gif

I read a finance book recently. It talks about 3 different pockets for financial security.

1st Pocket : Saving pocket.
2nd Pocket : Investment pocket.
3rd Pocket  : Trading pocket.

1st pocket would be fire proof and earthquake proof. I assume this means FD or its equivalent. Once this is filled, then we have the 2nd pocket. This is meant for long term investment like unit trusts in FSM.

Then we have the 3rd pocket. This would be the gambling portfolio or where you allocate a certain amount of money for your "best bet". I assume this is the sector fund, gold fund, etc. I assume this would involve short term investment and active trading.
