I have made a 84" (16x9) screen from white plywood (those for furniture) 4 years ago, and painted it with ICI Pentalite Misty Evening (for those who followed AVS forum would know this favorite paint for grey screen at that time) I have hung the screen like a picture frame.

Goto Ace Hardware to buy the smooth roller, and paint it with the roller. The result is amazing as the board will have some fine texture.

All the other equipment are DIY, including wiring, mount and installation.

My screen is made of plywood, wall on the screen painted with pentalite black, surrounding wall painted with Jotun Burgundy Red (top half), bottom half sticked with Superlon sheet for sound absortion and curtains are Burgundy velvet material. Of course, the sofa beds are from Macys' Burgundy Red.

Enjoy rclxm9.gif

Your screen seems small for your room's size. Why not 100" instead? Well cant judge from the picture, but do u have the cinema feel when playing in a pitch black condition?

The length of the front wall is only 11 feet, and the width of my room is 19.5 ft.

I have placed my Sanyo Z2 half of the width, approx 10' from the front wall. It is one of the best distance to reduce screendoor.

Furthermore, 8' x 4' plywood, the best I could do is a 7 feet (measured diagonally) 16 x 9 screen. Please bear in mind... everything is DIY on the screen.

1. Frame made from recylced pine wood RM0
2. 8' x 4' plywood, price RM25
3. Pentalite Misty Evening RM20
4. Pentalite Black RM20
5. Roller RM35

Cinema Feel - better to watch at home as I am able to lay back on the sofabed to watch the movie. Dolby Digital or dts sound - maybe better than some cinemas as I have a complete 7.1 system with a Paradigm subwoofer.

karyeowl - nice setup...feeling like i'm reading avsforum. Didn't know that Msians have lotsa 'secret' cinemas in their houses...

You're using a Z2? Any plans to upgrade?

And do u still have your crt? Where do u place it?

My setup is purely temporary (although it's been there for nearly one year) coz i only use a smallish draper pull downscreen for now (it's hanging in front of a storeroom door which sometimes need access to). But the best part is that the setup can be taken on and off as and when necessary...

I think the setup is suitable for 1-2 person, but heck it's a lot better than watching a movie in a smallish 29" crt....with a widescreen dvd...pic will look very much smaller there...haha

Don't have proper space yet to put up a dedicated fixed screen. Surely DIY will be my way to go unless Stewart can produced some mass cheaper screens...or some good China made screen someday?

post more HT pics guys!

I am still using the Sanyo Z2, and so far so good. Bought it 4 years ago at RM8000. Very expensive. Spent RM600 for Belden RG6 cable for the component cable. All these activities are no linstallation cost, all DIY.

No plan to upgrade because of no budget. If I built my home theater now, I will go for Pany AX100.

As for CRT, I have them in my room (29" Sony KiraraBasso) and living room (29" Philips) I may wanna look for an affordable plasma 42" for my living room. I have a Yamaha S120 HTinBox in my living room.

What you see in the picture is my HT room. I rarely watch Astro on my projector, only DVDs and my wife's karaoke.

Wow your setup is nice, i like the way u decorate it, i like your tv cabinet very much. Where do u buy it and how much? Or u DIY it yourself? And DVD looks good even on a 480P projector. Should have bought a projector instead of LCD last year. Regreat! doh.gif

I bought the TV cabinet. Earlier i purchased a Philips LCD TV as well, prior to the projector. Bought it from the Court Mammoth but returned coz i wasnt satisfied with the pic quality. Rugi the first payment only. Then i bought an Optoma EP716, which is a data projector but faulty. Finally, i got this H27 for less than 4K, and im satisfied with it for the such pic quality as compared to the price i have paid. Its definitely better than the LCD TV. The screen is a diy screen, made of some woods and a few feet of "Khaki" cloth...painted with greyish Jotun paint. Maybe id like to try that ICI Pentalite "Misty Evening" mentioned by Karyeowl. rolleyes.gif

Very nice indeed...this is DIY or proposed by specialist?

Hmm..one question from me...did you guys ever worried about the projector bulb life..? Is the bulb costly?
