QUOTE(Criptonox89 @ Feb 7 2007, 03:58 PM) Very nice indeed...this is DIY or proposed by specialist? Hmm..one question from me...did you guys ever worried about the projector bulb life..? Is the bulb costly? Most of the jobs were DIYs. Yup, the bulb is quite costly but its just the price we have to pay once ventured into the front projection screen. Did some maths, the most lets say 3 hrs per day, the bulb has been said to last for 3000 hrs. So...it will come to 2.5 yrs at least before the bulb gives away. Moreover, it is not necessarily that the bulb will go kaput as it reaches the 3000 hours mark. Though, the brightness will be less by then. One way...keep a piggy bank...whenever use the pj...put some money in lor. Appproximatley RM3 per hour. Its like going to the cinema. RM8 for a movie. Got to be prepared! Hehehehehe. Personally, i never care bout it as i just want to enjoy the thrill of watching DVD while im still able to do that. I dunno, its just me. This post has been edited by viosafc: Feb 7 2007, 05:40 PM

to save on bulb replacement, maybe can do this...get a tabung and put near the HT...everytime u watch put RM1 or whatever $ u have into the tabung...i'm sure after the bulb reaches it's peak...perhaps at 3000hrs...you would have rm3000 in the tabung....hehe...then can already upgrade the projector meh...isn't this a fun way of saving.
btw - i always that my HT centre speaker is not loud enough? if i increase the master volume, it feels like the other speaker will drown the centre volume...how come eh? or maybe it's just me with this problem...
so to avoid this, i tend to bring the centre nearer to my viewing area....
any good advice on rectifying this?
cheers

viosafc Your setup is nice. I like your setup. How wide is your screen? Try the Misty Evening... pretty good for a DIY grey screen. He! He! The equipment picture you all saw was 3 years ago. Those day, I had a Yamaha DSP-A2070 + Sony 9ES Dolby Digital processor, Sony DVD player (already 7 years), AIWA Tape Deck, Yamaha CD Player and Tuner. I have upgraded my AVR to Marantz SR7500, and I have 3 DVD players. One LG normal progressive scan and Rogers DV525 (upconverting DVD) I have not taken the latest picture. My Yammy and Sony processor are now resting gathering dust. who wants it?? This post has been edited by karyeowl: Feb 7 2007, 10:44 PM

Wa lau eh... I was away for 4 days and my page got ppl tumpang already. Kekekeke... Thanks for sharing your set up as well. When I am back in KL, I will reply one by one. Added on February 8, 2007, 10:09 pmQUOTE(tong1774 @ Feb 5 2007, 12:26 PM) I got a question, where do u put your crt tv? Put it at the corner? Or in the room? I have to drop the idea of setting it up in my medium room cause my brother is going to stay with me. If i put it in the living room just above my 32" LCD, it will be too high. and i cant afford to move the LCD everytime i wanna use the projector. Thinking of using motorized screen, but heard that the screen may get crumble overtime, plus its a lot more expensive that a fix screen. I am having an idea that making a screen like yours, then mount it in the way that it can be slide in from the side with some slider like a sliding door, since i have plenty of space on the left. Hmm, must be a lot of work. Oh to be able to do that i must first wall-mount my LCD since now it is sitting on a carbinet. Anyone did this before? Not sure how it will wroks? My CRT is in the room now. ALthough the room becomes kinda small but where else I can throw it??? WOW - this look bright .. nice idea .. did not think of that before .. and this: You seemed to have eliminated the grey/black bar that is obvious in the pic but on in the rest. How did you do that? like in this pic This post has been edited by g5sim: Feb 10 2007, 04:54 AM

You seemed to have eliminated the grey/black bar that is obvious in the pic but on in the rest. How did you do that? There were some ambience lights, thus making the black bars visible. like in this pic It was taken in a completely dark room. Eliminating the visuals of the bars. QUOTE(carpathia @ Feb 12 2007, 05:06 PM) how come no one here consider dell projectors? good value right? Well, there are 2 types of projectors available in the market.. multimedia and home theater. Dell Malaysia more onto Multimedia projectors where as what we discuss here mostly on home theater. Usually, multimedia PJ has High lumens, low contrast Home theater PJ has Low lumens, high contrast

Prior to Optoma H27, i used to own an Optoma EP 716 (had it for a week), which is a data projector. The difference is quite distinctive. Black levels and colours are the two most distinguishable elements while comparing the two. When i first lighted up the H27, i simply went "WOW".... Thats was my experience...i dunno about others.....

Ever heard a phrase saying "when a one eye man in a town full of blind men, he is considered the king?" Something like this la... Kekeke... Anyway, what I am trying to say is, when u have nothing to compare, of course you will go whatever that you have. I used to watch movies from office projector projecting onto the white board or wall paper. Once you have tried the home theater projector, don't think you will ever want to go back to the conventional multimedia projector.

i believe the term of true HT projector was only invented like 3,4 years years ago...
Beofere that, the one that had the traits of both a good data projector and video porjector those days was the dlp infocus x1 - mainly because it has the popular Faroudja chip that could handle video efficiently...
if u wanna wait...tim's right - go for the more expensive HT projector that u can find when u have the money
but if u think u can't wait anymore.. and has only rm2500 to spare and think that u can only have RM6000 in 3 years time - that'a a long wait, ain't it? so maybe u can just take the plunge and go for the dell or those entry level dlp svga projectors which is < rm3000...
a dell is good enough (if i dont compare it to a RM6000 ht projectors ler)...seriously coz i own a dell...
back in the days when HT projector in msia there was only ht projectors like sanyo z1, pana ae200, benq pb100, infocus x1...and dell was kinda on par with those...trust me - i've seen them all those days...dell was not all that bad...
it's a dlp, so the blacks were acceptable and the contrast ratio at 2000:1 which was way better than those offered by the sanyo and pana which were lcs those days...(albeit they have proper ht 16:9 panels)
those early days = any reputable dlp projectos will normally triumph against any lcd 'claimed' ht projector...
so i tell u what - try getting a dell and make sure u get the 14 days money back guarantee that they should still be offering....use it and if u think you're find with it, keep it. if not...send it back lah...haha...nothing to lose right?
i did this too and i kept mine.
But make sure u have a proper HT setup already in placed to do the test...meaning good screen, area, sound system, lighting etc etc...then u can really know if u can live with a multimedia projector or not
then when u strike lottery - of course buy those expensive ones...
actually by getting the cheap dell - i managed to fulfill my hobby with my limited money those days - i got my budgetl HT setup, and still have ample dough to get myself 4 electric guitars + multieffects, and attend most of the expensive mega rave parties that were orgnanized back then - without having to suffer too much...
imagine if i had to save all those other expenses for just the projector...i would have to stay at home with my exisitng 14 inch for years and having only to play my kapok - simply becoz i need to save...and i guess life would be a bit boring, would it? hehe
but hey, this is just a poor man's advice...i've tried waiting those days for funds t come...heck, waiting sucked! haha...coz having to wait and having to save from doing a lot of things that u'd want to do sucked even more when u wait...and remember we're not getting any younger...that sucked a lot lot more!
live life with a projector...but don't let a projector live your life....
oh...i'm not making sense maybe...sorry

QUOTE(silbii @ Feb 13 2007, 11:06 PM) i live life with a projector...but don't let a projector live your life.... oh...i'm not making sense maybe...sorry Well said bro ... nice seing u here ... well me been dwelling with ht for upteen years currently settling with my Tosh/Marantz/Jamo ...!!! ?? but its ok/rel set up. next thing is either a 42 (lcd/plasma) or a projector. I have personally reviewed at least 7-8 projectors in my set up (some borrowed/loan/friends /office etc etc).. i've noticed for a practical used in Malaysian house, any lcd/dlp with reasonably 1000 ilumes will do. My best was a "KODAK" which was years ago with TI chips (cant remember the model...)... but my point is even getting an optoma 706 for mere rm 2.2 k is justified if proper callibration is done.
