Why so rush? I would just stay at Tokyo (or nearby) if so. Unless you already book accommodation for Kyoto & Tokyo and bought your 7 day JR pass.

If not I would say just save the money and venture around Tokyo and have 1 day trip to Lake Kawaguchiko or somewhere nearby.
*

Actually that was my initial plan of staying at Tokyo for the whole trip.. Because this is my first time to Japan I believe there will be a lot of interesting places and things to do.

But my sis in law wanted to go Kyoto.. So issit better to stay at Tokyo for the entire trip or stick with Tokyo-Kyoto? Any advice?
Thanks!

No. In general JR pass only worth it if you do return trip to/from Kansai/Tokyo.

I went to Japan with my wife in 2014 (backpack). If you know Chinese + English, it's easier to travel by your own, you can manage your own time & budget.
Most of Japan subway station and sign board written in Chinese character (it's Japanese but you can easily understand).

We travelled from Nagoya to Osaka by bus, then JAL (Japanese Airlines) to Tokyo.
From Osaka, we travelled to Kyoto, Kobe and Nara through train.

We really enjoy our trip, plan to go Japan again next year.

Personal Quick Tips :

1. Buy ONLINE your Disneyland/ Disneysea ticket early, so you can skip queue. Also, they have "evening weekend" ticket that slash the price by 50% (I bought it in 2014 trip). For those just want a quick trip to Disneyland, this ticket will help you save $$$

2. Buy Kansai Thru Pass if you plan to travel within Kansai Region (Osaka-Kyoto-Nara-Kobe). It will help you to save $$$ (depend on your travel pattern, personally I save about 35%).

3. If you love to stay longer in Osaka, please check "Osaka Amazing Pass" (transport + entrance ticket included).

4. If you travel from Osaka to Tokyo, please check the following option (besides Bullet train) :

- JAL (Japanese Airlines) ~ I got my 50% discount in conjunction of their special season & early bird)
- Normal train ticket buy in advanced ~ you will get huge discount + complimentary drink

5. If you would like to travel by bus, besides JR Express, you also can consider Willer Express. All Willer Express ticket can be booked online and it's cheaper than JR.

Yup. You are right. My mistake on that.

But, I googled the latest news and found that the scheduled move to Toyosu in November 2016 had been put on hold.

How old are you? Your Dec13 freaking ambitious, unless you very young and full of stamina, it'll be an extremely long and tiring day.

This is so familiar- you copy from japan-guide itinerary? for my case I removed the shinjuku part because shibuya is quite big and should stay longer

Need some advice from people who have been yokohama.

Here is my proposed itinerary, is this do-able under 1 day under normal no stress pace?

Yokohama 1 day :
1. hakkeijima sea paradise - only aquarium (Aqua Resort) 10am open
2. cup ramen museum
3. red brick warehouse
4. Osanbashi Pier for sunset view
5. Ramen Museum or chinatown for dinner (or supper)

*my concern is time needed for no.1
