As the world's biggest and richest club, Manchester United reach a global fanbase.

Part of the attraction for fans around the world has been the football luminaries, such as George Best and Sir Bobby Charlton, who have graced the Old Trafford turf in a Manchester United shirt over the years.

Recently, Manchester United have continued to attract or develop some of the game's biggest names, with England stalwarts such as Paul Scholes and David Beckham having been regular fixtures in the Reds line-up.

The Manchester United team, past and present, reads like a who's who of world football.

It is only fitting that a great team should grace a great stadium. And with Old Trafford's recent development and the closure of Wembley, the ground is easily the largest in English football, holding in excess of 60,000 fans.

Despite this capacity, the demand to see United in action is so great that tickets are hard to come by.

But it isn't only Manchester United fans who flock to Old Trafford. The standard of the ground is such that it regularly hosts high-profile games, most notably, the Champions League Final and Great Britain rugby league games.

Rock fans have also made use of the Reds's facilities, watching a number of high-profile acts at the ground.

But it's football that will forever be synonymous with the Reds famous ground - and with good reason.

The last decade has seen Manchester United under the shrewd leadership of Sir Alex Ferguson maintain a virtual stranglehold on the Premiership crown.

Manchester United has won the league no fewer than 18 times in their history. They are also Cup Kings too, winning the FA cup 11 times, the league cup 4 times, as well as winning the European Super Cup, European Cup Winner's Cup, and 3 times being crowned European Cup champions.

Manchester United has long become a name associated with success both on and off the pitch.

As club profits continue to grow, Manchester United have become one of the richest sports clubs on the planet.

With supporters club branches on every continent, it's hard to go any where in the world and not see somebody wearing the famous red shirt of Manchester United.

QUOTE(zenix @ Nov 24 2009, 09:18 PM)
Hope Alien will sticky this info later.
Though written in 2006 so no Roy Keane yet.

Ex-United players that have moved on to become managers.

Written by Simon Stone (MARCH 22, 2006)

STEVE BRUCE (1987-1996): Took his first steps in management with Sheffield United in 1998, then swiftly moved on to Huddersfield, Wigan and Crystal Palace. Left Selhurst Park in acrimonious fashion after Birmingham targeted him as the replacement for Trevor Francis in 1991. Took Blues into the Premier League but after a heavy FA Cup defeat is struggling to keep his job.

MARTIN POWELL (1971-1983): Stylish and well-respected Scotland centre-half whose authoritative nature appeared to make him a natural for the management game. Lasted four months at Burnley.

SIR BOBBY CHARLTON (1956-1973): Arguably the finest English player of all time proved to be an unmitigated disaster as a manager. Claimed he was not given the resources to make a decent job of it at Preston but was never lured back into management following his departure after a single season.

STEVE COPPELL (1975-1983): After a knee injury cut his playing career short at just 28, Coppell turned his attention to management. Steered Crystal Palace into the FA Cup final and then third place in the old First Division - the Eagles' highest ever - the following season. It was the first of four stints in charge at Selhurst Park in a career which has seen him move to Manchester City (for only six games), Brentford and Brighton. Now at Reading and about to steer the Royals into the top flight for the first time.

PADDY CRERAND (1962-1971): A key figure in United's 1968 European Cup triumph, Crerand lasted five months at Northampton before getting the bullet and, like Charlton, never managed again.

MARK HUGHES (1983-86, 1988-95): Hughes was never tipped as a manager by Ferguson but has taken to the game with ease. Took Wales into the Euro 2004 play-offs. Took over at Blackburn shortly afterwards, steering Rovers away from danger in his first season. Currently in contention for a Champions League spot.

BRIAN KIDD (1967-1974): Another European Cup winner who proved to be a poor manager. Got itchy feet in 1998 after spending seven years as Sir Alex Ferguson's highly-rated assistant. Took command at Blackburn but dismissed six months later.

BRYAN ROBSON (1981-94): United's inspirational leader under Ron Atkinson and Ferguson. There are two schools of thought on his stint at Middlesbrough - he either spent lots and achieved little (relegation and two losing finals) or he laid the platform for the Teessiders to become an established Premiership outfit. Kept West Brom up in extraordinary fashion last year but back in trouble again this season.

GORDON STRACHAN (1984-89): Scotland international who won the FA Cup with United and the title of the pre-Premiership era with Leeds. Sacked after five years at when the Sky Blues lost top-flight status, then enjoyed success at Southampton - reaching the 2003 Cup final - before resigning to spend more time with his family. Now at Celtic, has recovered from a humiliating Champions League exit to Artmedia Bratislava, and, after winning his first trophy on Sunday in the CIS Insurance Cup, is set to clinch the Scottish Premier League.

NOBBY STILES (1960-71): Along with Charlton, one of only two Englishmen to have won the World Cup and European Cup, he replaced his former England and United team-mate at Preston, with limited success. After a brief stint in Vancouver, returned to England to take over as manager of West Brom. Sacked after five months, having gained just three wins.

Yay 3 point!! More important is the nature we fight to get the winning goal. Very postive sight. Im seeing the old united we used to see under SAF.

Good work by rooney the get the cross from left side.Martial been very poor for this 3 games.. time for micki to start ahead of him. Rashford should be 1st choice for sub anytime.. he can be threat from any side

Let's give the white Pele some opportunity to redeem himself....I see a tireless fighter, although he is not the Rooney of SAF..
If I was Mou, I'd have taken Rooney off at 70mins but look what he did. There must be something left in that tank. Maybe his first touch will improve with bit more fitness or minutes at least.
My hat's off to the skipper n gaffer this round. Very well fought 2nd half. A turnaround.

Martial subbed out, of course he can't do an assist from the bench *ba dum tissss* j/k Martial has not been showing his form of last season in the opening games of this season.

Hopefully just needs time to find his form. To be fair though, Martial played the game in a wider position so I'm not sure a direct comparison is apt.

The assist was a beauty (like the one that he did for Zlatan in the previous game), but it's also obvious the midfield and attack can further improve as well.

Lel. I think yesterday Mathias Pogba instead of Paul was playing, hence the out-of-form he showed in yesterday's match.

Still lack a proper winger if mourinho wants to continue with this formation. Mhiki is though a better option on the right than Mata.
Martial not good playing as LW.

I think pogba will play better against teams that dun park the bus.. He will have more space to dribble and drive forward.

The one he shimmied and conned a defender. Open up space to shoot but curled it just abit wide.. Would have been a superb goal..

Yeah last night is a cringe one.... starting with berahim backheel... to de gea lost steps.... but dayum
Blind is in the zone... n its like we have 2 shaw in the game
Bailly...looking intimidating as always...
Fellaini... picking up almost every ball in midfield
The attacking half... arent clicking well yet... love the fact that rashford is young n rash... giving hull problems.. n miki... bringing in some dortmund

Will be interesting to see if that CB pairing and midfield pairing is good enough, especially Fellaini and Bailly. I (kind of) understand the need to play Fellaini there, to provide physicality and whatnot, but will it work against nimble footed players like City's? Shall see...

I dun think it's good idea to play fellaini against city. Their players are too quick and agile for fellaini. He'll be committing foul here and there!

He saw Louie vangel struggling there, then he looked at his Man Utd pencil case and decided he has to leave few months earlier so that Woodward and Co. have time to decide.

Paul Pogba may have cost Manchester United a small fortune, but the French midfielder has already started repaying his ginormous fee after it was revealed his shirt sales have reached £190 million in just three weeks.

As one of Adidas’ main sponsored athletes, the German sportswear company invest most of their marketing and advertising budgets into the 23-year-old, and it seems to be paid off in spades.

the one who get the money is adidas. not man utd. i read somewhere 80-90% of shirt sales goes to the maker (for our case: adidas).
this is purely on shirt sales la. but on other front i dont know la.

So, our prediction are correct.
Mou only keeping 3 youths from Moyes and LVG era, Lingard, Rashford and Fosu-Mensah! Ohh.. and Sam Johnstone.

He shipped out 16 youths!!

Paddy McNair (£5m, Sunderland)
Donald Love (£1m, Sunderland)
Will Keane (£1m, Hull)
Tyler Reid (undisclosed, Swansea)
Tyler Blackett (undisclosed, Reading)
James Weir (undisclosed, Hull)
Ashley Fletcher (free, West Ham)
Oliver Rathbone (free, Rochdale)
Joe Rothwell (free, Oxford)
Nick Powell (free, Wigan)
George Dorrington (free, Huddersfield Town)
Cameron Borthwick-Jones (loan, Wolves)
Guillermo Varela (loan, Eintracht Frankfurt)
James Wilson (loan, Derby)
Andreas Pereira (loan, Granada)
Adnan Januzaj (loan, Sunderland)

Hope Janu, Pereira and Borthwick-Jones can come back to be first teamers next season!!

As for Tuanzebe, I consider him as Mou's youth!! Hope we can have more coming up!!

Nick Powell, I admit, was hoping he will have a big part to play for Utd after his debut goal vs Wigan.

But the lad never settled down, and was once touted as the next Scholes.

Heard issue of lack of commitment and attitude problem stalled his career.

Lol mou have a horrible record with promoting youth unless they have proven themselves they are better than the current 1st 11.

But in sacrifice of that, you guys will enjoy a rapid achievement of trophies due to his ruthless style

In actual fact, SAF is also the same. He does promote youth to play for a few matches, carling cups or those that are not important. And then, at the end of the season, he will sell them off. Only retain 1 or 2 that is consider good.
Of course, Class of 92 is a special and unique case. Doubt that it will happen again in current football world.
So, I am ok with Mou selling off the Youths that he is not using. Just make sure he give them chances to show if they are good in few matches in a season, then, he can decide whether they make the cut.

Pogba is a blessing in disguise.
If he stays in ManUtd, he will most probably go thru LVG's philisophy, and got lost in midfield, and after that sold!!
Look at Depay now. After LVG's teaching, he is not himself anymore.
Haha....

Pogba also not willing to wait anymore. If SAF don't think he deserve to play ahead of a CM duet of Rafael and PJS, SAF clearly don't rate him enough.

ive read somewhere SAF ask him to wait since scholes make a u turn from his retirement, only 1 year. the year tht pogba left was suppose to be his breaktru year.

but stil i think SAF didnt handle this correctly, ya lah a sstupid kid comin to me asking me to listen to him, he forgot im not even a worldclas manager but going to be a legendary?

seriously i think it'll be a 3 horse race this season. Utd, City and Chelsea. City coz got Pep and his attacking filosofi, even Sterling looks to be damn gud under him. Utd coz got Mou, and his request for specific players all granted by Woodward, Bailly, Pogba, Mickeytarian, Zlatan. Mou proven to perform when he is given the players that he wants. Chelsea coz Conte and Kante. tongue.gif Plus the lack of CL for Utd and Chelsea will help both team in focusing in PL. lol

Irregardless of he's 18yo or 21yo, he's been playing in midfield his entire youth career. How many years of experience does PJS and Rafael have as a CM?
Imagine that you're a training chef. Suddenly the assistant chef is sick and the head chef need some help. Instead of asking you to step in since you have some experience, he go ask the dish washing lady to help just because she's been working in that kitchen for far longer than you.

It was the same situation with Rashford. Martial was injured during warm up.
Imagine of LVG didn't take a leap of faith and throw on Rashford. Instead, he look at Rojo and tells him to go play up front and help hold up the ball to bring other players into play. We would not be raving about Rashford now.

SAF did all those after the Blackburn match. That time, I would assume it was too late. He was already contacted by Juventus.

So are you going to rate Arsene Wenger as well for his years of experience?

SAF was obviously just aiming for title no 20 at the end of his career. He didn't focus much on the youth team anymore then.
And how did it work for the team when PJS and Rafael was picked as CM? We lost against Blackburn who was a bottom team. What results are you talking about?
Or are you referring when they were playing in their natural position. I never disagreed with their contribution to the team, just their selection as a CM.

Anyway I am not going to continue further this debate since obviously we won't agree to each other points.

not gonna comment further too.. but my point simply its unfair to blame SAF for pogba leaving united. if SAF sold him directly to juventus then its fair saying SAF let him leave. SAF want him to stay

same goes saying SAF dont rate him highly simply coz he choose PJS and rafael ahead.. its a tactical decision. the fact he promote and gave the lads some matches at 18yo prove he rate him quite high. only few player given tht privilege at top european club like united

pogba said the blackburn game made he decide. he simply need a reason to leave and he found one. my blame goes to mino the agent. SAF hv said they never had good relationship since 1st time he and mino met.. but at the end credit to mino he is a good agent.

the most scary part is... JM rather put TFM in to play CDM than bastian.... or any reserve team players... and also blind was also one of the potential CDM/CM....

Midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger has been left out of Manchester United's Europa League squad.

The ex-Germany captain, who has trained alone or with the Under-23s under new boss Jose Mourinho, was named in their 25-man Premier League squad on Friday.

The 32-year-old World Cup winner retired from international football this week after 24 goals and 121 caps.

Eighteen-year-old defender Axel Tuanzebe has been named in United's 27-man Europa League squad.

Only 21 non-"club trained" players - those who have spent three years at the club between the ages of 15 and 21 - can be named in squads for the European competition.

United could only count forwards Wayne Rooney and Jesse Lingard as "club trained" so a maximum squad of 23 could be named, along with four Under-21 players in Marcus Rashford, Luke Shaw, Timothy Fosu-Mensah and Tuanzebe.

Schweinsteiger signed a three-year deal in July 2015 but was told by Mourinho last month that it would be "very difficult" for him to play again for the club.

United begin their Europa League campaign away to Dutch club Feyenoord on 15 September. They are in Group A along with Turkey's Fenerbahce and Zorya of Ukraine.

Manchester United's Europa League squad for the 2016/2017 group stage: David de Gea, Sergio Romero, Sam Johnstone, Eric Bailly, Phil Jones, Marcos Rojo, Chris Smalling, Luke Shaw, Timothy Fosu-Mensah, Antonio Valencia, Matteo Darmian, Axel Tuanzebe, Paul Pogba, Juan Mata, Jesse Lingard, Michael Carrick, Daley Blind, Ashley Young, Ander Herrera, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Marouane Fellaini, Morgan Schneiderlin, Memphis Depay, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Wayne Rooney, Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford.

I'm looking for the 3rd away kit, but don't seem able to find it at any local online store (ie: 442kit) yet. Anyone has any other sources to share? Thanks.

Starting micki seem like a wrong option so far.. wasnt ready to start in such massive game.

Lingard struggling playing at left. Right side porbably fit him more.

Losing the ball certainly make the defence nervous than usual..

Bravo out to claim a ball did not reach it. Lingard passes to ibra but ibra losses his composure or maybe scuff his shots weakly towards goal line and stone cleared

Minutes before Rooney cross deep to far post ibra head straight at bravo? But that was kinda tight corner

Im not sure what's Jose is thinking? He did not start Miki in the previous 3 games which is significantly easier opponent, and then he started Miki in this game? If Jose thinks Miki is not ready for BPL in previous game, what makes he think he is ready for this derby? Just a thought.

actually I agree both milk and lingard starts
both have speed. mata will not be effective ....too easy for man city to contain him
it s not manager fault in selection in fact it is player letting us down......
it will be a shock if miki and lingard perform as at least we average level.... to man city.. no one has seen them play together and it's a surprise tactic

but regardless the result I am happy with man utd now how they play

Anyone saw Fergie shaking head around the moment 5 mins of added time was announced?

Anyway, 2nd half was 100% better than the 1st. Ibra could've gotten a hat-trick, Blind and Bailly surprisingly below-par..Micki? A first start for him for a big match, i'll let it pass. biggrin.gif But Lingard man..Rashford completed more take-ons(1) in his first minute on the pitch than Lingard did during the whole of first half. doh.gif What a dabber.

Blaming Blind a bit harsh for me.. de bryne just quicker not just by movement but also how he read the game and the ball. De bryne is simply a world class player.

When ur midfield kept loosing ball also put extra stress to the defence

Zlatan supposed be tall but keep losing aerial duels with Otamendi who is 1 foot shorter.

Lingard is terrible. Alongside Blind

Miki doesnt look like German league best player.

Pogba doesnt look anywhere near being the world most expensive player.

Fellaini also lost in strength and aerial duels.

I felt angry cos with a bit of luck, Zlatan could have had hattrick.

Ini semua salah Rooney honestly. I dunno what kind of jampi he has on all managers since SAF. If SAF still in charge after his last, Rooney would've been gone.

By selecting him, it has a selection ripple to the rest. OK, so Mkhitaryan had a bad game but it's hardly his fault being thrown into the thick of things in a derby of all matches. His best position is No.10 which a certain Rooney has made permanent supposedly. Lingard was the strange selection. One would think Mourinho could have at least started Martial or Rashford instead.

I'm beginning to have a tiny bit of doubt about this team as long as Rooney is still in. The whole world is asking. Where is his best position at the present time? If in doubt, drop him for a few games & see how the whole team is transformed, seriously.

Question is, who's brave enough to drop him? LVG can't, Hodgson won't, Mourinho couldn't, Allerdyce wouldn't.

And I don't like the fact that we started pumping long balls to afro in the 2nd half. OK, maybe Mourinho thought we couldn't out pass City but Fellaini as the target man reeks similarity with LVG's option last 2 season.

Perhaps during UEL match next week Mou can try different tactic & selection without Rooney & Fellaini.

DDG - Valencia - Bailly - Smalling - Shaw - Herrera - Pogba - Mkhitaryan - Rashford - Martial - Ibrahimovic

The awarding of Arsenal's penalty was a shocker. League worth billions but refereeing still in dark ages. We have all the technology but the powers that be still recalcitrant. Look at other sports especially rugby. And the money there not even a sniff from football. Even badminton embraced technology. All football has is goal line tech.

If you guys are gonna judge this team before X'mas, might as well don't support.

It's only the 4th game of the season. You win some, you lose some.

To me, the game yesterday, was no where near perfect, but still it was one heck of a match.

If you don't appreciate the entertainment value in it, and only care just for the win, you might be watching the wrong sport.

Ibra 1 goal from 5 shots (at least). Pogba also loose the ball continuously. Have to give credit to Rashford and Herrera. Both did a good job coming on as subs.

Rooney must be droped. We need a fast tempo game. He keep on losing ball and i cant see any chemistry between him and zlatan. Should try deepay. Give the guy a chance. And valencia cross must be improved.

QUOTE(treblecase @ Sep 10 2016, 10:19 PM)

Rooney must be droped. We need a fast tempo game. He keep on losing ball and i cant see any chemistry between him and zlatan. Should try deepay. Give the guy a chance. And valencia cross must be improved.

I repeat & I quote myself. Hunt me down all you want but that's the truth. Rooney is a liability. His inclusion in the team causes others to not play in their supposed position. Dropping him can also push Pogba up. Mkhitaryan can play at his natural position no.10 or Mata

Well I'm really sorry to say this about Rooney. Yes he was a good player when he first came. The hattrick in his debut UCL, that overhead kick v City & other memorable moments. Thank you but he has passed his sell by date. Now he's just slow, lose the ball all the time, & not that clever (let's be honest, he's no Scholes).

Memphis? He can't even get into the match day squad & is 3rd in the pecking order for his position. Probably will see him again in EFL Cup matches on the bench.

I trust in the manager, he chooses his team and tactics. We have to lose one day, let's just lose now and get it over with.

after watch pep sack hart and watching the match, now only i realised tiki taka rely heavily on keeper pass.

a defeat but entertainment value is gooding. zlatan could have level but miss so easy chances. mou select wrongly, lingam miki play badly. just not our day.

but then blind really can't vs world class player as defender.

Basically when a keeper is in play, it's 11 vs 10 and his tactics always start from the back and once reached 4th quarter of the field, the players have freedom to do whatever they wish.

We need to either get darmian , smalling and Morgan in their positions or get proper ones to replace felly, Valencia and blind. The manager has to decide whether it's worth to take the risk to play them out of their natural position.

I'll say it's best to give mou some time to get to know his players and with the games we have this month, it'll be the best time for him to test out his tactics. Not expecting much this season, but hope we at least be around the top at the end.

when too many player perform badly, this what gonna happen

easily say, all mids were badly perform, miki, lingard, roon, pogba, all combo perform under par

i like to stress though the defend leak 2 goals, they did good job. Otherwise more leak goals.
1st goal can't really blame blind, bailly didn't challenge the 1st header. I think blind using his brain, if he stop kdb, sure red card.2nd goal can't really do anything, a luck goal.

mids are lacking, giving more pressure to defend. One thing I like, uncle tony was impressive, and brahim on fire

6.7mil is the value of bastian as an asset not his wages as he no longer consider part of the team. his wages far more than tht value. 200k per week. united probably already decide he can leave for free.

guess no way bastian will feature at all for united this season

Well, why am I not surprised that Mkhitaryan is already complaining about his playing position? Yes, the Rooney factor again. As I've said time & time again, Rooney must be dropped or sold for the team to progress.

The progress City has made under Pep is frightening. Pool's attacking prowress is quite a site to behold. Coming from a United fan, it's pretty damning. We have a good squad sans Rooney & a few other dead beat players. Let's hope they can click as fast as possible because we don't wanna play catch up.

city always got strong squad. aguero simply the best no 9 in the world alongside suarez. de bryne & silva world class. CB probably the main issue for city last season. kompany unfit, mangala very poor. stones(if SAF still around i think he will snatch this kid) great signing for city and his style a great fit wt pep possession play. pep always gonna hv easier job than mou. united still in transition. LVG and mourinho different approach also would hv some effect and taking more times in building the squad. GGMU.

It's also useless if your entire team tactics have to be adjusted to accommodate Rooney instead of for the best of the squad.
The problem is he's being a passanger for majority of the matches with only flashes of brilliance.

Pep selects the player that suits his tactics the best.

Correct. If Pep is in charge at Utd, if Rooney is not in his plan, he would've been shipped to Timbuktu for all I care.
