is it sufficient to use 8gb ram for latest game ? If not sufficient, how shall i upgrade to 16gb? because i am using 2 sticks of 4gb ram. so can i just buy 1 more 8gb ram, and install into my desktop ?
*
Depends on what games you play, some require > 8GB some don't.

Technically yes, you can swap the 4GB for 8GB, this will deactivate the dual channel mode but it is not a big deal since the speed difference is barely noticeable in real life usage.

I'm using strix gtx1060 oc though, but it'll never hit more than 65C when setting up to 75-90% fan speed even on several graphical demanding games. I assume you're using gpu tweak ii as well, if not msi afterburner, try monitoring your gpu from those software.

It depends on how you are going to push the workload on your VMs. i3 is kinda a weak side, and 4gb will put a strain on VMs and host itself. I'd suggest you to go at least i5 and 8gb of RAM.

My concern is you will run out of RAM instead of CPU power. Unless if you are working with low memory VM like Debian where 512mb is sufficient.

RAM is cheap nowadays. If you are on budget, then buy i3 with 4gb of ram. Then find used notebook ram on garage sales. Maybe you can get 8gb below rm 150

Intel Core i5 6400 - RM 788
Gigabyte H110M-DS2 (D4) - RM 249
Corsair 8GB DDR4 2133MHz Value RAM - RM 175
Gigabyte RX470 4GB GDDR5 G1 Gaming - RM 970
WD Blue 1TB HDD - RM 225
FSP Hexa+ 550W - RM 189
Tecware Alpha - RM 219
BenQ GW2470H - RM 499
TP-LINK TL-WN722N - RM 49

Total: RM 3363 (Techview price inclusive of GST)

You can swap to GTX1060 3GB if you wish to do so. If you plan to get SSD together then you need to downgrade the i5 to i3 (or possibly GPU as well), but this is not worth considering SSD doesn't boost gaming performance in terms of frame rate other than just loading time, I will rather just add it later when I have more funds.

Techview will move to new location (SS2) starting tomorrow onwards, please check out their FB to find out the new address if you want to get all the parts from them.

I wouldn't recommend RX470 at RM970, worse with the rumor of price cut round the corner.

I personally got my Zotac 1060 mini (6GB) sub 1k with some patient and lengthy wait (camp for sales at online platform like Lazada/Gemfive). Even without sales, you can still easily find one at the moment for sub 1.1k, much much more worthwhile than a RX470 at RM9xx in my opinion.

You are willing to play the waiting game, some don't. And price cut? Pray hard for distributors and AMD to follow that if it is true, AMD had jacked up the price of RX card so much, just don't put your hope too high on this.

And his budget is 3k initially and 3.3k max, 1.1k GTX1060? Yea sure it is a good deal but that would add have to add another RM 150+ "burden" to his wallet, if he can top up then surely it would be a better pick biggrin.gif

I know the constraint is of course the budget.

But again, I don't really see the point of paying RM900+ for a RX470, even if its price cut not gonna be mirrored at our market anytime soon.

Why pay more when even 3GB GTX1060 is more powerful than it, yet at a cost cheaper than it.

Potential regret of getting RX470:
- Imminent drop in RRP, hence bad resale value and buyer remorse.
- Pretty bad performance/price ratio for a budget card, worse it is 70 series from AMD which always crowned performance/price ratio for series before this.

Potential regret of getting 3GB GTX1060:
- 3GB VRAM is a little limiting for the relatively huge performance it can offer and certain games in 2016 and upcoming.

Heck, I wouldn't even consider the extra 1GB VRAM of RX470 will make it much a different in "futureproof" than a 3GB card. Also worth mention is that the 1060 also having greater potential in overclocking than its rival.

If I am in his shoes, I will play the waiting game a little longer (at least till the launch of 1050TI) or just eat an extra month of maggi to push for 6GB GTX1060.

In short,
RX470 - bad choice
3GB GTX1060 - great but risky choice
6GB GTX1060 - great choice
GTX1050TI - potentially great choice

Hello guys. What do you think about this assembly? First timer here. Building a rig that can last me for 2-3 years without major upgrades. Not that interested in overclocking hence the non K CPU. GPU maybe. Using this for gaming at 1440p preferably with >30fps.

I am not too sure about the monitor, the cooler and the CPU though. Would it be enough using an i5 6600k and invest the extra money on some of the other parts?

Intel Core Skylake i7 6700 - RM1295

Coolermaster Hyper 412s 160mm - RM219

Gigabyte B150M-D3H (D4) - RM 379

Gskills RipJawsV Black 2x8gb DDR4 2800mhz (CL16) - RM 499

Gigabyte GTX 1070 Windforce OC 8gb ddr5 - RM 1999

Superflower Leadex Gold 550W - RM 409

Phanteks Enthoo Pro - RM 435

Samsung 850 EVO 120gb SSD - RM 279

WD 1tb Caviar Black 7200 RPM - RM349

ASUS 27" MX27AQ 2560x1440/5ms/DP/HDMI/MHL/Audio @ 60hz - RM 2259

Windows 10 Pro 64 bit - RM349

Total RM 8392

Trying to keep it below 9k

How does that work? Supposedly I install Windows 10 pro trial, I just use the keys to activate it?

I saw one thread selling for RM69.90 and another for RM50.

The performance RAM @ 2800MHz will be downgraded to 2133MHz automatically because the mobo picked doesn't support RAM speed > 2133MHz.
