Hello sifus. Can you suggest me the lowest cost build for i3 6100 with & without GPU.? (rig only)
Planning to get dedicated GPU later since I'm tight on budget atm, will be using onboard in the meantime.
Usage mostly for movies, internet browsing and Dota 2.

Thank you.

so smaller screen need stronger gpu due to higher ppi? confused.gif

will i5 6500 be the bottleneck to the gpu?
*
No, it depends on resolution, you get a higher ppi on smaller screen when resolution is the same, so the display and text are much clearer and sharper.

Bottleneck happens only when it cannot handle the amount of requests from other hardware, i5 6500 should be fine for most of the titles out there, if it really happens then you can just lower down the settings a bit to remove the burden of the CPU, that's one of the ways to handle CPU bottleneck, don't worry too much on the bottleneck issue, there isn't a standard hardware requirements for PC games (due to wide variety of hardware choices and game engine etc.) so just keep calm and game biggrin.gif

Hi I currently owned a Radeon 7950 (its an old card I know) and I wanted to upgrade to a card that is capable of running 2016 games at say, 1080p with medium settings. I found 1050 Ti but when I did some comparison it doesn't really outperform 7950 by a huge margin, so therefore my question is can anyone recommend a "bang for the buck" worthy upgrade to my old 7950?
*
Your 7950 should be able to handle 1080p medium settings, if you really want to upgrade, please look for at least GTX1060.

Hi i want to build a pc the thing is im in limbang. Anyone know a company that ships to limbang? Or miri?
*
Most of the PC rig builders/shops do ship to East Malaysia, if you plan to save shipping cost, you can look for Idealtech, they provide free shipping for rig (3k and above) if I recall correctly.

i3 6100 + H110M mobo + 8GB DDR4 RAM + 1TB HDD + 500W (to prepare for future GPU) + casing will cost roughly 1.5k+.

You can checkout one of the builds listed above (the one with similar requirements as yours, i5 6500 + GTX1060 6GB), the price is picked from ETech's Lelong Store.

Hi Sifus,

May I ask is there big differences in terms of performance btw a dual fan graphic card and a triple fan graphic card, i look into the price online and low yat and seems the price of the tri fan one is much more expensive than the dual fan ones.
I am going for a i5-6500 and GTX 1060 rig budget around 3.5k but the budget save if getting a dual fan card can spend it to get a bigger SSD. So please help me sifus

Triple fan = higher airflow = lower temperature, how much lower you can get? Not much, just few °C lower, go for bigger SSD is a better choice.

Current RIG
CPU: I5 4430
Mobo: Asus B85M-G
Graphic Card: Gigabyte GTX650Ti 2GB
PSU: Tauro XTK-TB-0700B 700W
Casing: Xigmatek Asgard 381

Hey sifu. I need some upgrade advice for future proofs(like upgrade in future)
I wanted to upgrade GC but right now my concern is
does my CPU & Mobo still can hold up for next few years? or support new GC?
If not I will upgrade for CPU & Mobo first,
and then following GC,RAMs etc.

For budget will be around RM1k+ for CPU & Mobo both things, or maybe sifus can give some advice?
Thank you guys smile.gif

No need to upgrade the CPU platform (CPU + mobo + RAM), go for GPU upgrade instead, your i5 4430 is just 5 - 15% slower than the latest Skylake i5, not worth to spend your hard earned cash on it.

1k+ can get GTX1060 6GB already, big upgrade from your current GTX650Ti (at least 2.5x) biggrin.gif

Thanks for the suggestion!
But if I upgrade to GTX1060, will performance slightly cut down due to my CPU platform?

Those CPU demanding titles will show bottleneck symptoms, this is unavoidable, just lower down those CPU-related settings in games to reduce the workload of CPU to minimize the bottleneck issue, in overall, you are still good for GTX1060, don't worry so much.

There is only like ~10% of the titles in the market are known to be hammering down all the i5 model, like the recently released Watch Dogs 2, the frame rate output is lower in an i5 rig compared to an i7 rig in this game.

Question Sifu,
1) Any big different for Intel Core i5 6600k??
2) Mobo - Asus is better or MSI is better?
3) Do we need to match the same manufacturer for Graphics Card with the Mobo?
4) This rig good enough to play any kind of games in the market right now right? and good to do any work in Adobe After Effect and Premier Pro?

1. 6600K has higher base clock speed (3.5G vs 6500's 3.2G) and is meant for overclocking (K CPU), performance difference on stock speed is not that huge, if both are running at full speed, 6600K is estimated to lead the 6500 by less than 10%, you need a Z170 mobo to overclock the 6600K, this will increase the total cost of the rig.

2. Either one is fine, both have pros and cons, just grab whichever you like (according to features offered, color scheme etc.)

3. No need, they can work with other brands just fine.

4. In overall, the specs are completely enough for 1080p60 gaming, the settings you can run is depends on the optimization of the games, if the games are well optimized and not hardware hungry then 60 FPS on high/ultra settings should be easy to achieve. Just lower down the settings if you aren't getting the frame rates that you are looking to get. Adobe software is good to go also, if you want to reduce the total rendering time then you can consider to upgrade to i7 6700 and 16GB RAM.

You want to upgrade "hard disk, mobo, graphic card, psu and rams", how about processor (since you only mentioned to re-use current casing)?
*
Ah! Thanks for reminding. I guess it's the whole CPU excluding the case.

Am currently running Xeon processor, I guess it's time to change?
