Hello all,

I have an i5 4440, looking to upgrade my processor into a better i5 or i7.
Planning to sell this + add RM500 to get a new processor.

Which processor can I get with this budget?
*
Assuming you are able to sell if off at RM 500, adding RM 500 on top of it will get you RM 1000 in total, this cannot get you anything beyond Haswell i5 yet, Xeon E3 1230 V3/1231 V3 is priced slightly higher than your available budget (though you may find one which meets your budget brows.gif ), while Haswell i7 is all > 1.2k unless you get those OEM/bulk units.

QUOTE(MillkTea93 @ Nov 13 2016, 01:29 PM)
request for Budget mini atx case pc ( RM 3000 )
Case prefer: SilverStone Milo Series ML08 ( any one sell this? how much? )
GPU prefer: GTX 1060

other please suggest me!
*
Well it is quite hard TBH, only able to fit a 3GB version of GTX1060 with minor over budget.

Intel Core i5 6402P - RM 754
ASRock H110M-ITX - RM 278
Corsair 8GB DDR4 2133MHz Value RAM - RM 218
Zotac GTX1060 3GB GDDR5 Mini - RM 949
WD Blue 1TB HDD - RM 215
Silverstone SX500 500W - RM 412
Silverstone ML08B - RM 340

Total: RM 3166 (ETech price inclusive of GST)

** Not entirely sure of the 3.5" HDD is able to fit in the case or not but according to the specs sheet, it should be able to sit alongside with the chosen GPU (short card).

how bout rx460? which 1 is better?

btw im.not sure whether is the card dead or not. As i switch on the pc with dedicated card dvi will detect no signal... Although the fan & everything is moving.
If i boot with integrated display dvi then unplug & plug to dedicated dvi then it work fine.
*
RX460 is faster but GTX750Ti will do the job just fine if you are looking to save as much money as possible.

Try to reset CMOS and BIOS settings first, see if it is able to solve the mysterious GPU issue or not before getting a new GPU.

*
If your mobo comes with CMOS jumper then use it to reset, or just remove the CMOS battery for few seconds and put it back, search the Internet on how to do this if you don't understand.

*
i5 -> i7 grants you 4 extra threads (and slightly higher clock speed), but if your workload is low or doesn't benefit from the multithreaded CPU then it is hard to notice any performance difference.

i7 4790 is the highest end Haswell Refresh CPU already (for non-K) so the answer to your question is yes, it is considered as a good upgrade.

No need to upgrade CPU/mobo if it is still functioning well, your CPU (Xeon E3 1230 V2) is basically an i7 3770 with no iGPU (doesn't matter since you are going to buy dedicated GPU anyway) and slightly lower clock speed (0.1 - 0.2GHz only), not worth upgrading it to an i7 3770.

GTX1060 6GB is your best pick now with your available budget, you don't have to change PSU too, just plug in the card and run (if everything goes well).

Thank You for your suggestion. Is it worth to wait for Kaby lake? Based on previous Intel cpu the raw performance gain isn't much right? Moreover with our ringgit dropping unsure.gif

Also any B150 mobo will do am I right?

Mostly 10% performance improvement based on the previous deployment history data.

Any H110/B150/H170/Z170 chipset mobo will be able to run the current Skylake and the upcoming Kaby Lake (via BIOS update) CPU.
