Need to upgrade wife PC since she can claim I/Tax rebate for 24.5% upto 3000 this year...

Currently her CPU is i5-2500, GPU is HD5850 i think... i dont need a Monitor... using some Silver rated 650w Modular PSU (2 years old), also dont need keyboard, mouse, speakers

She mainly use for playing games...

So budget 3000max (tax tax)...

I grabbed some recommendation as below... usable for my needs ka? Wan a full big size system... not small tiny box

Intel Core i5 6400 - RM 798
ASRock H110M-ITX - RM 278
Corsair 8GB DDR4 2133MHz Value RAM - RM 215
MSI GTX1060 6GB GDDR5 OC - RM 1129
WD Blue 1TB HDD - RM 215
FSP Hexa+ 550W - RM 188
CM Elite 110 - RM 178

The build list above is a SFF (mITX) setup, you have to change the chassis and the mobo to fulfill your requirements. And FYI it is a little bit overkill if your wife only play basic/casual/light weight games (not graphics demanding), modify the build and add in SSD will be more suitable if this is the case  sweat.gif

I heard that you need to buy full set in order to get the tax rebate (no hardware reuse is allowed), but I am not entirely sure on this, please have a check before making the decision  smile.gif

SPoken to the LHDN guys (when they called me in for some.... clarification) no monitor etc they dont care.. as long as its a Desktop PC, so I'm good to go without misc accessories.

She does MMO... and sometimes at Max setting in a PvP setting it might get a little heavy.

She do have a Samsung 850 SSD now... 120GB only though... maybe can upgrade this

She does want a big casing.. currently using the CM Enforcer... if casing too small put in the table looks very funny cause its a specific built table with slot

Does this mean the PSU can be re-used?

To qualify for the tax rebate, I think you need to buy the entire system including monitor and relevant items to make the computer work.

http://lampiran.hasil.gov.my/pdf/pdfam/Def...of_computer.pdf

Not sure if they have any update to the definition above thou.

So, Desktop computer without a monitor or mouse is not a desktop. It's just a system unit  dry.gif

That clarification was to make sure to exclude tabs... previously tabs also can sneak in, that memo made it clear cannot. There is no mention of desktop PC MUST include monitor.

Dont want argue with you, you do what you believe to be true.

Any further discussion on this is not pertinent to the thread.

Intel Core i5 6500 - RM 862
Gigabyte B150-D3H (D4) - RM 379
Corsair 8GB DDR4 2133MHz Value RAM - RM 215
MSI GTX1060 6GB GDDR5 OC - RM 1129
<SSD re-use>
WD Blue 1TB HDD - RM 215
<PSU re-use>
Tecware Alpha - RM 219

Total: RM 3019 (ETech price inclusive of GST)

SSD can re-use unless your wife is craving for more speedy storage space, same goes to HDD, but you didn't mention any HDD to re-use so I included one in the build list, if it is not needed, then you can use the extra money to buy a fancy chassis like:

Phanteks Enthoo Pro M Tampered Glass - RM 449
NZXT S340 Tampered Glass - RM 449
Thanks for the tip! Especially the casings... those are real nice, will probably grab the Phanteks.

Though I notice the i5-6500 isnt too much an improvement over my current i5-2500 (like 10%) hmm.gif

After poking around some stuff myself... I migth wanna go for the following..

Skylake i5-6600 (about 23% improvement over my current instead of 14% for 6500) - RM952
MSI GTX1060 6GB GDDR5 OC - RM 1129
MSI B150 Gaming M3 - RM552 (is this a good idea?, any improvement over the Gigabyte?)
Casing : Fractal Define R5 - RM469 (the PC will be in our bedroom..)
PSU : BE QUIET! STRAIGHT POWER 10 600W CM 80 PLUS GOLD - RM497

haiz.. as always cannot keep to budget... sweat.gif

CPU: 6500 holds the best price/performance ratio among all the Skylake i5, 6600 no doubt will bring more performance but does it worth? Benchmark is benchmark and usually doesn't apply to most of our real life application or usage. (You can still go for 6600 if you wish)

Mobo: Full size ATX mobo, a little bit overpriced due to B150 chipset being RM 550+, this price should get you a pretty decent H170 or entry level Z170 already, the "gaming" tag and the nice design bumped up the price  sweat.gif  (Sometimes aesthetic is priceless  laugh.gif )

Chassis: Up to your personal preferences.

PSU: Straight Power 10 is a 2nd tier PSU, you might want to take a look at Superflower Leadex Gold instead, slightly cheaper and it is under 1st tier.
*
As always, thank you for your thoughts thumbsup.gif

CPU : I canont bring myself to buy 6500 when the benchmark show so little imporvement over my current... so die die must see 20%+ improvement.. the price diff like 1.5 jug of beer la tongue.gif

Mobo : Good point on H170, I wont go Z170 cause I dont see myself overclocking or SLI. How about Gibabyte GA-H170-D3HP @ RM516? As for looking good... the casing doesnt have a see thru window... so is syiok sendiri saja hahaha

PSU : Hmmm didnt realise Straight Power 10 is 2nd tier, it was getting pretty decent reviews... i was going for a silent PSU.. cause those things really does contribute a lot of the noise coming from the PC.. will go back drawing board

Edit : Read there are some issues with SuperPower Leadex low hold up time? Maybe its model specific..

You can look for 0db PSU like Corsair RM series (and higher end series), the fan of the PSU will not spin until it reaches specific load (40%+), this will give you a complete silence PSU/rig.

Low hold up time should be fixed in the new batch, new stock should be ok but you can always swap to other option if you wish, check for revision number before making the purchase if needed.
*
Been trying to struggle finding a decent quiet PSU...

The COrsair RM series are also Tier 2... the RMi series are Tier 1, but @ $660 for 750w sweat.gif

Edit 2 : My unit 650w enuf kan? Recommended PSU Wattage: 353 W

Edit : And no I dont dare to use the Seasonic fanless series... not with that casing...

Thank You for your suggestion. Is it worth to wait for Kaby lake? Based on previous Intel cpu the raw performance gain isn't much right? Moreover with our ringgit dropping unsure.gif

Also any B150 mobo will do am I right?
*
depends lor u wait for klaby lake there goes your chance to claim PC tax rebate this year, and yeah there is the FOREX factor.

B150 is generally more exp then B150M

Hi all. A quick question on the GTX1060. Planning to get the 6GB version. Which type/brand is the cheapest and which is the most reliable?

Best if you can provide the price and location of the shop too. Thanks!!!
*
The cheapest was the MSI pointed out by bro st4Lk3rz but you gotta be really lucky to find stock.

An alternative you might try the Gigabyte same specs.. ETech was quoting 1220 ish

7. Dell UltraSharp monitors are really eye candy especially the thin bezel and good color calibration/reproduction, I am an UltraSharp user as well for quite a few years already and I love it very much, look for U2717D instead of U2715H, it is a new model with a better design overall.
*
Bro... the u2717d is RM2300 leh... thats why until now I havent upgrade my old samsung p2770h.... cannot see myself paying 2300 for a monitor when a 42" 4k smart TV is only goign for 3k ish... sad.gif

If there is any decent buy for say under 1.5k then I would seriously consider lor...

Ah ic, would there be any particular brand in the market now you'd recommend instead? if it's 27 inches but cheaper :S
I'm mainly looking for something that's more accurate colourwise because I'm planning to use it for art and some minor photo editing. Doesn't matter as much with gaming.
*
When you start talking about art/photo and colour accuracy... time to stack on the $$$... a little improvement in those area equates to a huge increase in price...

Well you cannot compare a PC monitor with TV though, they are aiming at different customers, resolution is not the only thing that matters.

Not everyone is looking to browse FB/Lowyat Forum on a 42" TV, it is just too big and uncomfortable to me, and 4K is an insane resolution to drive even with GTX1080/Titan Pascal  tongue.gif
*
Its like saying a Merc S600 is too big so must stick with a C200 even if its more expensive dry.gif

Anyway, I agree for monitor due to its close proximity PPI might be more of a consideration then just 4K... I need to get 800mm depth just for the 27" monitor (also I like to rest my entire forearm on the table for comfort).

so i guess my pipe dream of upgrading my monitor remains that... especially with our awesome ringgit

Go for 16GB RAM in this case, but due to our weak RM currency and stock shortage, DDR4 RAM price has gone up hill, up to 50% increment in the past few weeks  doh.gif
SPot on for the RAM... I got the Avexir 16GB DDR4 2400mhz @ RM400 2 days ago... was RM389 last week...

Thanks much! I just realized Etech is in Kepong which is quite near to where i stay so maybe it is more convenient to buy from them. Do they offer better bargain on similar specs?
*
ETech generally cheaper.

Also once you there u can nego for slight discount below their Lelong listed prices... but not much due to thin margin..
