Yes, as long as not orange colour and blinking.
Usually due to :
- Difference between out door temperature and air conditioning temperature
- Engine not fully warmed up
- Due to insufficient charge in the battery (doesn't mean that your battery is dying, just that the charge requirement to activate istop is set at a conservative level to not over drain the battery).
When battery is about to die, will show istop error on error log and also istop indicator blinking orange.

guess i'm not driving around too much to charge the battery enough for istop

iStop not functioning after changed new battery??
Probably ECU needs iStop learning (BATTERY CONDITION INITIALIZATION LEARNING)
https://euroesi.mazda.co.jp/esicont/eu_eng/...17h5800900.htmlProbably this may help. You need to follow very closely within the time frame on each process to get it done successfully.
Upon completion, all 3 icons (Skyactiv engine, Battery & AC) background will grow blue indicates iStop is ready.
my car is brand new haha. oooo thanks for that info good to know

What zstan meant was the normal "downtime" of the istop, as just no istop lights. Not the orange/blinking lights stating istop error.
After some while, when the conditions are ok, the istop lights will show green.
yup yup
