Ferrari first developed teh 6 wheeler, but it uses 4 tyres in the back, and was not considered to be the "real" 6 wheel F1 car. Uncle Ken was teh one who made the first 6 wheeler car. In practice, a 6 wheel car is faster as there are more contact patch of the rubber with the track Ironically, the reason they did not use the car was not because of teh FIA, but because goodyear deemed it was too expensive to make custom small tyres to fit one team only and declined to make more tyres to the team

it's amazing how teams could come up with so many amazing ideas back then.
I think we're missing all the fun in modern F1. Everything's so strict from the wings right to the tiny spring on the car's floor. In a way, it's stupid and ridiculous.
It's hard to imagine F1 cars being the most efficient these days when rules are trying kill all efficiency in an F1 cars and whats more, when your competitor is faster than you, use the rule to slow them down, and further handicap the F1 car along the way....

Heh, and I guess you're implying that the McLaren complained to the flexible floor issue? Every teams does it. Ferrari does it too, thus it's like a pot calling a kettle black. And teh reason there are so much restriction is the deaths that follows the series from teh 70's and 80's where an averange 11 deaths per season will follow this series, drivers, crews or spectators all counting. The major take on the rules were after the death of Senna and Ratzenberger, and it was the drivers themselves who initially pushed for these changes, and while they want safer track, the FIA wants safer cars.

McLaren lauds Alonso's approachQUOTE McLaren-Mercedes CEO Martin Whitmarsh says that Fernando Alonso has played a "very significant" part in the team's resurgence.
After an unhappy and winless 2006, McLaren turned its performance around over the winter and leads both championships after the first three races of this season.
Whitmarsh said that Alonso's role should not be underestimated, as the world champion's approach and behind-the-scenes contribution had given the team a huge boost.
"There is no doubt that Fernando has made a very significant and worthwhile contribution to our programme," said Whitmarsh.
"It is his honesty, clarity, sincerity.
"He happens to be an extremely nice human being, but one who is very focused and intent on winning races and world championships.
"It is the way that he goes about that - he quietly but insistently puts across his point of view, which has enormous credibility and credence within the team."
Whitmarsh reiterated that the combination of Alonso and Lewis Hamilton created an excellent atmosphere within the team.
"Having competitive drivers in the team fighting for championships is motivational, but perhaps more significantly the two we have are such grounded individuals and such team players," he said.
"Whilst they have enormous respect within the team, they also show respect for the engineers, technicians, mechanics and everyone involved, which means a lot to the whole team.
"It makes it more enjoyable when they achieve success." SourceCheckout those bold-ed words. Alonso is a great man indeed!

meh, and you think why Renault struggled? It's kinda deja vu in 96 when Schummi left Benneton to Ferrari. The team just cannot cope without him anymore, and it took them 10 years to bounce back

the great briatore wave white flag already? hahaha..... http://www.f1-live.com/f1/en/headlines/new...427170252.shtml Renault look to 2008QUOTE The Italian press on Friday cleared up two separate pieces of F1 speculation.
The first, in the magazine Autosprint, is that world champion outfit Renault's focus has already shifted to its 2008 car, after the current R27 proved not a match for 2007 frontrunners Ferrari, McLaren Mercedes and BMW Sauber.
"We are already working on next year's car," team boss Flavio Briatore revealed. "Whatever we discover on this project, we can eventually use it on the current car."
The sports broadsheet La Gazzetta dello Sport, meanwhile, quoted Michael Schumacher as admitting that he will probably attend his first Grand Prix as a retired driver at Barcelona's Circuit de Catalunya next month.
"I think so," he said after a visit in his advisory role to Ferrari's Maranello factory.
Schumacher warned the specialist media, however, that he is unlikely to want to talk about Formula One at the scene of the 2007 Spanish Grand Prix.
"Up to now I've always preferred not to speak about F1 as a sign of respect towards the team, and maybe I'll carry on this way," Schumacher said.
