I've 2 pcs on rear 225/45/17 bought late 2020 apparently it's bulging. Discovered this when I wanted to do balancing as steering felt a little shaky. Was informed by tyre shop no point do balancing as tyre is bulging and suggested to claim fro seller since most tires are with 5 yrs warranty. Any experience claiming such? What's the process? BTW these are Nexus Nfera tyres

Guys pls recommend me tyres for above. Prefer quiet, comfortable and good grip as I am on the road most of the time due to the nature of my work.

No budget on the price as tyre change is covered by company.

Currently using Michellin PS4, but need to change since the sides bald already.
I travel every weekend from Kuantan tu Putrajaya and vice versa, and my style of driving is quite aggresive.

Should i remain with PS4 or any other brand / model you all would recommend?

Hey,

With 215/55R17 you have tons of choice. From my price table I got the following options.

Kumho Ecsta PS31 215/55R17 313
Toyo Nano Energy NE03 215/55R17 352
Goodyear EfficientGrip 215/55R17 370
Continental UC6 215/55R17 400
Continental Max Contact 6 215/55R17 430
Yokohama Advan Fleva V701 215/55R17 440
Goodyear Eagle F1 Sport 215/55R17 441
Michelin Primacy 4st 215/55R17 528
Michelin Pilot Sport 4 215/55R17 565

From what you said, I deduce that your main requirements are mileage and handling?

I would recommend Primacy 4st due to its higher UTQG treadwear rating (340 vs 320-PS4) and better overall performance

You can check out the head to head comparison here

According to tyre manufacturers yes, it's recommended for replacement.

This tyre and rim wheel runs over a curb. Michelin 6 year warranty likely not applicable here.

no leaking air or 'pregnant' then no need to change, still okay to drive, since your wife already drove the car back and it didn't explode

Agree that it is still okay to drive with a side bulge (in real life temporarily) though not recommended.

Not sure anybody here has experience on continuing longevity in km or months before encountering further deterioration and/or tyre burst in real life or base on hearsay? I'd no such experience.

i have encounter the same damage to my tyres before, the lip of the rim has a 5 cm scratch and a tear at the sidewall even longer than the picture above, end up i just keep driving and go race with it for a year+ till the thread worn out and replaced it

It's good to know you have gone over a year plus with a longer side bulge.

On highway, did you dare to go over 110 km/hr with the side bulge? Town and residential area should be safer if I may guess.

110km/h is so normal speed for me when driving around klang valley, after the tyre damaged, i still go 120-140km/h on kesas and 170km/h on karak with that tyres, 160+km/h on sepang circuit long straight

i can wear out a treadwear 320 tyres in just 2 years with rotation done, that's less than 30k mileage, how extreme you think i torture the tyres? and it still hasn't failed because of sidewall damaged laugh.gif

it is just a slightly deeper surface scratch, sidewall is not that weak

You changed?

No need la... only recommended to change if sidewall bulging. In your case, just lose a small chunk of rubber. It does not affect anything. What really holds the integrity of a tyre is the wire mesh cooked into the tyre construction. That's why it is recommended to change when sidewall bulging because the wire mesh inside already compromised. Not sure just bended or snapped thus advisable to replace.
