1. Brand : Any
2. Budget : circa 200k
3. New/Used/Unreg : Preferably new, unreg is an option
6. NA or FI : Adding on EV to the mix
7. Type : Sedan / Hatch / Wagon
8. Remarks: For my use case either electric/petrol works just fine. Usually solo, occasional passengers in the car.
Considered an unreg conti, but now with Tesla launching, the model 3 looks to be decent value for money.
*
Quite a few EVs around that budget to research & test drive.
Model 3
Model Y
Cooper SE
Kona
Ioniq5, 6

For petrol, instead of an unregistered conti, personally will stick to new Japanese eg Mazda, Accord, Camry for peace of mind.

Currently 2009 Hyundai Getz and wife Toyota CHR.
1 kid (3 years old)
Commute to office only 10km

Options
Huyndai Ioniq 2017-2019
VW Vento 1.2 high line
Renault Capture
new car of similar price range? Vios or City?
*
New cars 50-65K cannot get Japanese
Only local options Persona (sedan) Myvi (hatchback) or entry level Ativa (SUV) Alza (MPV)
Which is not a bad option to replace your aging Getz since only travelling within Klang Valley.

My personal suggestion for husband and wife is try avoid both cars too old or both still under loan. Especially with growing expenses raising kid (possibly more incoming) in Klang Valley.

hi all, i got an offer from a relative, around 90k+ to get a 2017 crv 1.5 tc-p, condition consider good for a 6 year old.

Worth to grab it?
*
Buying used units from those you know and are willing to share actual hidden conditions is a dream for buyers.

However,

A. Do you actually need a Csegment SUV

B. Can you maintain it from 7th to.. say 15th year in various conditions Eg. loss of job, removal of petrol subsidy..

A. Not really, just that my wife and I (DINK) currently have a 2015 Vios + 2015 Myvi, so buttock itchy thought just upgrade the Myvi so that got better car to drive + fetch parents sometimes.

B. Shouldn't be an issue for us, just thinking whether does it make financial sense to buy a 6y.o C segment SUV @ 90k vs fork out additional 50k (around 140k) to get a new HRV or CX30
*
Yup, upgrading to a safer car if financially capable is a good choice.

If I can get the CRV checked by my mechanic, would grab it as well to enjoy its advantages relevant to my needs eg space. With the higher maintenance cost factored in.

But if CX30 suits your requirement, space might not be a priority and the allure of a new car with 5 year warranty is hard to resist as the 2nd car Vios soon enters double digit age.

My standard feedback to couples is try to avoid two cars aging simultaneously with their expected increase in repairs.

6. NA or FI ? NA only for base spec
8. Remarks. Buying for parent. As for me, once in awhile spirited Genting via Karak, prioritise better handling among SUV.

Currently comparing HRV and CX3, both 1.5NA. Any idea when UMW bringing in the Yaris Cross?
*
If not in a hurry see any news D66B in 2024.

The only 100K SUV provide spirited Genting is X50.

If japanese better consider WR-V better power/weight ratio than the heavier HR-V with same 1.5NA engine.

CX-3 i think everybody buys 2.0 to utilise the excellent chassis. Wasted with 1.5 and approaching 120k out of yr budget

Nothing under 100k has a decently powerful engine and sorted chassis for spirited driving.
Spirited driving dangerously, yes.

I've a Haval H2 which has a 1.5T at home, it is decent enough but not for spirited driving -- decent highway cruiser.

so glowing your report on x50
Shhhhh the ativa gang might hear u

*
Not sure how Haval H2 performs, is it still available new?

X50 ard 1.3 ton generate 230Nm below 2000rpm gave us spirited Genting drive each time, not YSKhong speed but enough to overtake almost all cars. But its chassis fumbles at very tight turns, unfortunately failed to correct the steer in time last month.

By no means its glowing choice but below 100K, still accelerate like crazy.
My kids Ativa is a different animal which I did not recommend to TS earlier as he preferred non local brands.

QUOTE(Danxerd @ Nov 21 2023, 08:54 PM)

1. Yes, this will be my first car. Have been driving my parent's HRV and Serena for years and they asked me to get my own car.
2. I have been driving for more than 10 years already.
3. i am okay with local cars too
4. i am 180 cm
5. i am considered a soft pedal driver when i drive in the cityand i usually cruise around 100 - 130 on highway. ( something i realise these 1year, i can barely maintain my focus on the highway for more than 30minutes )
6. i am going for bank loan (5 years, deposit around 20%).

(additional info)
1. Car is honestly a vehicle for me to go from point A to B
2. I use it 3-4 times a week [100-200km a week]
3. I intend to keep it for more than 5 years
Usually for younger folks, recommend drive used cars as they build up their skills. Not because they are bad drivers but sometimes not yet skilled enough to avoid other bad drivers.
But with 10 years under your belt, that shouldn't be an issue.

Purpose - point A to B, few times a week each drive less than 50KM return. Legal speeds on highway. Solo driver with occasional passenger. Suggest lower budget & shorter loan period unless brand conscious.

Here are some recommendations for you to test drive (important to determine comfort levels specific to you). If you like a model, test drive again and bring friends or relatives test together for feedback. Test drive 3rd time before booking.

Sedan - Bezza Advance 50K
Best selling model for 2023 thus far, poor handling if driven above highway speed limit, seats slightly small for 180cm.

Hatchback - Myvi AV 60K
Cheap to run & maintain, good resale value for upgrades in future. Loaded with active safety features. Dated chassis if driven hard and new Gen expected 2025.

SUV - WR-V S 90K
New model with proven engine (same as City & HR-V S). Slightly elevated position better view for city drives. Longer delivery for new bookings.

Sedans are preferred for better handling, hatchback provides versatility to carry bulkier items, SUV higher ground clearance also easier for older folks get in and out.
