3. New/Used/Unreg : New & used
5. Transmission : auto
7. Type :  prefer hatchback
8. Remarks :
- good NVH & ride comfort

For new models,
Good ride, handling - proton or DNGA peroduas
Good FC - DCVT peroduas

Since u familiar w perodua support, suggest

1. Brand : Any except China
2. Budget : Under RM250k
3. New/Used/Unreg : Prefer new unless used has little issues. I'm looking for something fun to drive
5. Transmission : auto / DCT - daily driver through traffic.
7. Type : hot hatch / coupe

aiming for the GTI MK8 but are there any other alternatives? I've tried looking around but at RM225k, the GTI seems to be the best value for money. Possible alternatives may be the Miata,

Well, max budget is RM200k - ideally RM100-150k, but would consider more if there is value.
Yes I am considering HRV too, but I read that there are QC issues on it?

Single driver, mostly city drive.
Planning to use it for 10 years at least like my current civic.

As you seem to have an overriding need for reliability, Toyota brand should be top favourite with the Corolla & Cross definitely be the on your test drive list.

It is - could say it is one of my top focus, though the Corolla's  exterior design is lacking.

Looking at Mazda also, there hasn't been much improvement for the CX-5 over the years eh? I looked at it back in 2012 and design didn't really change much
*
Do you require CX-5 as a single driver?
It is a rather old model.

There is a long waiting list for the CX-30 instead. Can check it out but Bermaz after sales some say not as responsive as UMW.

Hi all, I am considering to buy an used 2018 Altis 2.0 V from topmark, mileage is about 160k, with genuine full service record. the selling price is RM 85000, open to nego. The car is well maintained but the huge mileage in 5 years time is putting me off. What do you all think? Thanks.
*
If not urgent, can search for a better deal.

The mileage is going to bug you after u purchase

hi fresh grad here earning slightly below 3.8K per month 4-5 months into my job... May I ask what car is recommended for fresh grad in 2023? Budget < RM 50K, atleast thats what I think I should be able to handle with my current salary...

I see that new gen cars are getting more pricy, e.g., Axia & Vios albeit they're different segments. Seriously considering Iriz or Myvi as they're more worth the price compared to the new Axia which is pretty pricy for an entry car....

TQ...

Confirmed or still probationary staff?
If still under probation, if not confirmed become jobless can handle car repayment if take loan ?

Then can either aim for new or used car. If got someone close that is expert, then can help look for used car which is much cheaper and not so painful when get into minor accident bump and scratches.

Lastly, loan repayment, running cost (petrol Ron95 soon become RM3+ per liter) like toll, parking, insurance, tyres and maintenance (service, oil changes, car washes) + minor repairs (used cars)

Add up all then see if your disposal income got any savings left for emergencies.

Personally for me will take new Saga 1.3 MT 35K cos I run highway outstation often and its got great handling and I don't need all the safety stuff like Lane Keep Assist. So it depends on your driving pattern also.

Amy recommendation please? smile.gif

If you just need easy ingress egress from vehicle seat height,
Ativa would be the cheapest new option.

2. Budget. < RM 100k
4. Specs. anything below 3000 cc
6. Type: SUV
I am big size > 100kg)

close to 10 years car unsure repair maintenance
sold due to problem
very hard to maintain and tend to break down
main thing hoping it will not easily break down

*
Main concern seems to be reliability but looking for used old continentals ?

How about getting powerful new SUV with comfortable seatings instead and not worry about breakdowns for 5 years under warranty.

For budget below 130K you can get 250Nm moving < 1400kg hence your 100kg weight won't make much difference.

Can test drive X50 & HRV

2. Budget : 30k and 50k
3. New/Used/Unreg : New or used
4. Specs : 5 seaters, decent trunk size
5. Transmission : Any (manual preferred)
7. Type : Any as long it fits 5 adults

currently own 2009 Saga BLM
owned 1990 Honda Accord SM4 before and it was way comfortable to drive than my BLM, much bigger too

something that is not high maintenance, no weird issues, good looking, and comfortable.

want a car that feels good when driving long journey.
BLM can fit 5 adults, but I expect something a bit more spacious.
*
New 50K only Persona might fit your comfort level for longer journeys. 63K will get you the spacious Alza.

Used C segment sedans might be what you want, if you can narrow down some of your choices for more feedback from others here.

Thinking of getting a second hand SUV

CRV which is more spacious and fuel efficient
CX5 which is more fun to drive

*
Curious,
if you want fun to drive and fuel efficient,
why choose a taller heavier vehicle type like SUV
which then need a bigger engine to move it around?

How about Civic.. THAT would be more fun and economical.

Hey guys!

Anyone purchased from Sime Darby auto selection before?

Usually don’t need to bring own mechanic to check the unit as they have strict requirements for them to accept your car?

For Japanese cars, can the price be negotiated further? Or are the list price already fixed?

Thank you so much 🙏
*
Shouldn't be a problem to bring your mechanic 'friend' to check out the car as long as it doesnt involve dismantling anything for any used car dealers incl SD Auto.

Any used car is negotiable, just do your research and nego with knowledge. First is general market conditions (when manufactured, time of the year, possible fuel hike affecting larger engines etc) then car model specifics (certain model weaknesses requiring $ to rectify, knocks and defects spotted, painting needed, worn suspension etc)

Main concern : Reliability and longevity of use(Another 10years++ would be good)

Any other models with RELIABILITY+LONGEVITY of use @ SUV within the price is fine too. Please recommend smile.gif
*
How old is your son, what is he driving currently and any problems , his size too big ? Distance very far ?

A new Ativa X 62K will get you 5 years of warranty and likely last you 10+ years with cheaper maintenance.

Thanks for your reply dogbert_chew

He's 20, still studying. Yes, he 6ft 3inch. Doesn't mind any models / brands as long he has the peace of mind as per mentioned.
He also doesn't mind old cars too. As long as a reliable small or med SUVs. Does prefer driving up hills and into terrain for hiking and workouts twice every week.
Thank you for your suggestion on the Ativa though.
*
Waa 6'3"! Forget Ativa..

Minimum B segment eg HRV can move driver seat back passenger still got space due to excellent Honda design for space. . Yr budget should get you a 4-6 year old model.

However these so called SUV cannot go offroad terrains, if really hardcore need 4x4..

Is HRV hard to maintain apart from faulty back doors etc? Is it that reliable and can it withstand for another 10years ++?

I bought a 2016 model 2 years ago mileage ard 100K
Adequate 140hp power for city, highway 1800rpm cruise at 120kmh love the ultra seat functions

So far no faults at all.

Please test drive..

Saga standard for sedan
Axia X for hatchback

Any questions can post in their respective threads.

If you have some experience relative or friend to help in checking out used cars, can carefully consider and budget in possible repairs to their lower purchase price.

1. Brand/Model:
Perodua Axia 2023 (new),
Myvi 2022 (new)
VW Polo 1.6 2018-2020 (used)

2. Budget: 50k and below (except myvi)
3. New/Used/Unreg: does not matter
4. Specs: full spec
5. Transmission: auto
6. NA or FI ? NA preferred
7. Type: Hatchback

safe
reliable
easy to maintain with reasonable costs
good handling
*
Safe - perodua excels in active safety systems when you get the full specs.
Reliable - subjective but usually new cars higher
Easy to maintain - new car warranty gives a big boost first 5 years
Good handling - Axia yes, Myvi no, Polo gua tatao let sifus elaborate.

Actually which car depends on your driving pattern and transport needs in what environment.. If can elaborate then easier to give feedback. Eg. Family w kids?

For casual driving, personally I would consider the Myvi H for 50% more power and forgo the DNGA platform of Axia.

Do test drive both a few times to help your evaluation. Its free.
