Axia size compared to Myvi/Iriz is quite a bit more sempit right?
*
Axia chassis is one decade newer than Myvi. That is why it handles better and the interior is similar in size. Only the 1KR-VE 67hp engine is lacking unless u turbo it becomes 1KR-VET to 97hp found in Ativa

2. Budget : max 120k
3. New/Used/Unreg : new or used is ok
4. Specs : above 1.5
5. Transmission : auto
7. Type : MPV/SUV

daily commuter
long distance travel once in a while
last for at least another 10+years.
flat cargo space when 2nd /3rd row is folded down and
no need to worry much on the maintenance.
max 4 adult.

new Alza
Toyota Veloz
long waiting time

used car,  no experience
2018 Subaru XV I-P 2.0
2019 HR-V both roughly 95-100k,
are this 2 cars a good car  for their maintenance?

*
Alza and Veloz is basically the same car but u pay extra 20k for a little extra fittings and gadgets.
It does have 3 rows of seats though hence can still sit 5 with the last row folded for 500 liters of cargo space.

XV or HRV is in a different league altogether, they are much better built, more robust and can cruise above highway speed limit comfortably fully loaded (eg hrv 140hp vs alza 105hp). But with smaller boot space.

Their maintenance is definitely more than the cheaper Perodua and especially when they start to age approaching 10 years old, replacing major parts will cost more.

However if you can set aside a few K yearly in anticipation of major component replacements, the Subaru and Honda will definitely be nicer to drive.

I suggest for you to buy new cars instead of used.

With your budget, it's either Perodua Axia, Bezza or Proton Saga
*
Agree w Amscouzach, if you are inexperience, better get new for much increased reliability.

Go test drive both Axia and Saga. Decide on which models (and variants) suit u better. And forget about Bezza, worst handling car in MY

2. Budget: 65k - 85k
3. NEW car only
7. Type: Sedan
Top priority is safety features

daily commute, estimated 30km - 50km daily.
Prefer cars with excellent fuel economy.
new car within the next few months , waiting 1 to 2 years is fine

*
There are only 6 sedans within 85K range.
Saga, Persona, Bezza
Vios, City, Almera.

Protons are eliminated due to less than excellent fuel economy.
Bezza should be thrown out too for poor handling undermining safety unless u drive below legal speed limit always

Therefore just go test-drive the 3 Japanese models see which one feels better. Note Vios new model launching in Thailand.and may arrive here next year.

5. Transmission : auto
7. Type : sedan
Replace my current saga flx.

1. Reliable
2. Comfort
good NVH
travelling KL-KB-KL
Extra: can fold back seat

Hyundai Elantra 1.6 FL
Kia Cerato K3
VW Vento 1.6
Vios/Almera/City
Haval H1..situ zenix mention a lot in suggestions but dunno about reliability..
*
Looking for reliable car, proceed to list 2nd hand Koreans & Volkswagon? A new car will always offer higher reliability.

Since you need good comfort to travel long distance, the Persona has the most comfortable seats and is the best handling sedan below 100K. The new standard variant at 45K cannot fold back seat though.

If you already decided on Vios and need help deciding which variant to book, the Vios thread in Car Clubs might get u more details

https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/4358245

Stuff such as new Vios just launched in Thailand and presumely coming to MY next year should be in your radar as well. Either aiming for new model or squeezing your SA for substantial discount for the current one..

2. Budget. - RM50k+-
5. Transmission. - Auto
7. Type - Sedan/Hatchback

Some generic feedback for new models up to 50K

Perodua - good FC, resale, safety gadgets
Axia - new model expected 2023
Bezza - super bad handling
Myvi - ubiquitous

Proton - good handling, comfort, stronger bodyframe
Saga - entry level sedan. Cos bezza handling really cannot
Iriz - 1.3 underpowered at this max pricing
Persona - comfortable long distance tourer, big boot

Most important consideration - test drive.

3. New/Used/Unreg. - New
7. Type. (SUV/MPV)- 5 seater - 7 seater

plan to sell off my forester to lower down my monthly commitment since maybe getting retrench next year.

i have look around looks like Perodua Alza (waiting time)
*
If losing income is the main issue,
Perhaps try posting in Jobs& careers see any feedback.
Either look to move internally within the company to more secure position or find another company since current one shaky already.

Back to Forester, how much can get if sell next year? Cos if you book new car now still have waiting list. If it is a pure financial decision, how about sell now and get a cheap second hand car?

7. Type. - Sedan or SUV

A. New X50 Exec (Better power, felt premium, good looking),
But waiting time is 6months

B. Mazda 3 (2015) - facelift version at RM55k-60k (Good condition and accident free cause my friend know him personally) (Loan 5 years, installment also RM1k),
But maintenance cost is high

C. 2nd hand Honda Civic / Toyota Altis for similar price

*
First 2 choices seems can manage.
Mazda 3 need to set aside maintenance & repair fund (Total.Cost of Ownership over say 7-8 years and not just purchase price only)

Civic / Altis .see if u got interest.. then can explore..

driving to work in city area Penang,
new Myvi 1.3G or Used Japanese car
*
If you have some experience dealing with mechanics, knowledge of certain models their pros and cons eg City and can set aside higher maintenance and repair bills for say 7-8 years of ownership, then used Japanese models offer better value for money.

If first time car owner, haven't got a clue what function of parts when looking into engine bay and no budget for repairs first few years of ownership, then better buy new car w warranty.

Btw, if u looking at Myvi 1.3.. Suggest add 2K extra for
1.5 engine more power
15" rims handle better
Auto headlamps
Steering audio control
Folding wing mirrors
Hillstart assist
Higher resale value

acquittance selling his Mazda 3 (2015) - facelift version at RM55k-60k (Good condition and accident free cause my friend know him personally)

should I just go for New X50 Executive icon_question.gif
*
Have you made a decision?

Relooked at your situation and notice that X50 Exec at 94K is going to stretch your 1K monthly commitment for loan (assumed), petrol wear& tear, maintenance to the max.

If considering SUV, perhaps the Ativa H at 66K might be much more comfortable financially.

Else your friends Mazda3 (after trusted mechanic check through for parts to repair, replace) will offer the most comfortable drive.

Nice car. Long distance travel shouldn't be a problem once you get it into tiptop condition. Will let mini owners comment on how and the pricing.

ya looks nice haven't really bargain over the price. Had been a japanese car supporter most of the time and heard alot of bad comments on european cars especially on repairing and usage overall. thats why im on dilemma whether to get it for my wife . im worried my phone calls gonna up every month having my wife call me up about the mini broke down on the street lol.
*
My old Pug experience tells me 3 things
a. Gotta have a standby car
b. Good mechanic who is really otai w your model
c. Cannot be OCD.. If it fails it fails.

Unless the car really in bad shape needing major repairs, i think regular care (& budget) should suffice to keep it in good running condition. Do a thorough check w your future mini mechanic if possible.

One of /K golden rule.. Happy wife, happy life wink.gif

I will take 1-2 month to source reliable japan 5 year+/- Japanese car - Civic, Altis, CX-5 (thanks for suggestion as I never thought of this) or HRV seems like a good fit too

Else will be choosing from either the new X50 exec or Honda City V spec, but yeah after joined the FB group on both, X50 seems like having more issue especially electronic related one.

Understood the new X50 exec or New City going to stretch my budget, thanks for the heads-up bro

Currently more inclined to City after I joined the FB group for both X50 and City and learn each of their potential issue.

If sedan/SUV segment wasn't a main concern, what's your opinion between on this?
*
I would take sedan over SUV for handling anytime.
Only because my regular route has a bit of unpaved roads, large potholes, feel more secure using a vehicle with higher ground clearance (lets call it crossover rather than SUV) and 5 doors for easier goods loading. So if u don't need these qualities, sedan will handle better.

As for Japanese brands, my experience Toyota still better than Honda for reliability although my main drive today is a 2016 HRV which i bought last year cos i wanted its proven 1.8l NA engine before it disappeared.

Got 3 friends driving X50 past 12 months no issue at all. But if you're aiming for this, be prepared to get it in 2024 or close to it.

I see, my daily trip will be Klang Valley city drive 30km-50km, perhaps outstation to Penang/Johor every 3-6months for local trip.

May I ask why to get X50 by 2024... It is due to the facelift? My plan is hopefully to get a new ride end of Q4 22 or Q1 23. Currently most SA inform can get car 1-3 months as they have stock for SST car purchaser.

What's your comment on HRV since you are driving one? I came across few 2018 HRV V-spec around 75k during my 2nd hand car searching and it seems like a solid and reliable choice too.
*
OK my bad. Im still stuck in pre SST timeframe. Good that u can get the X50 earlier.

HRV is a super smooth cruiser 140kmh at 2500rpm with slick CVT calibration. Its 140hp 170Nm pulling 1250kg provides quick enough acceleration for city drives too. I get around 13kml for pure city and 16+ for fast highway journeys. Been faultless after 1.5 years. Drives much better than my kid Ativa.

7. Type. - SUV
Prefer high riding car

1. Honda CR-V TCP 1.5 2018 2nd hand
Too bad over budget.
2. Honda HRV 2022 / Toyota Corolla Cross , new
Once again over budget
3. Proton X70 Premium 2020 CKD, 2nd hand
+ 90k within budget
4. Perodua Alza 2022, new
It's a MPV not SUV
5. Subaru XV, Toyota Harrier, Mazda CX-5, etc.
Not sure about the maintenance/spare part cost
*
New SUV (and MPV) <100K budget and their ground clearance (which might or might not translate into 'high riding' car. Do test drive)

X50 Exec 180mm
Veloz 190mm
Ativa 200mm
X70 Std 200mm
Xpander 205mm
BRV 220mm
Aruz 220mm

Let others comment for Used vehicles,
And your 1K/monthly meaning possibly a 9yr loan ? Ouch.
