you can see here in Steam the popular GPUs used and platforms currently.

Windows 10 64 bit according to the graph seems on the rise.

Frostbite dev did mention long ago but unfortunately still slow. will see how with BF1 coming soon on Frostbite Engine.

But see how much hate Microsoft get for folks who refuses to update to Windows 10, not to mention how people hate Windows Store and its UWP component. I kept mentioning playing Killer Instinct but finding a local player who plays this game is like finding a diamond the size on Losmah's ring finger.

Yeap, I know. I'm running Windows 10, but still have a Windows 7 alongside Ubuntu boot options (boot from my 3rd HDD). But like or not, Windows 7 will eventually be replaced by Windows 10. Just a matter of time. Some day, you will get the same message as I did on my current office PC running Window Vista ""this app is not supported on your windows platform). I'm still hanging on Windows Vista on my office PC, bloody office scanner seems to work only with my OS, All my other colleagues lost their scan-to-PC when they opt for the free upgrade to Windows 10. The bad side, everyone scans document into the my PC, which takes up my HDD space. Good thing is, I can read all their scanned documents.

On another note, Raise of the Tomb Raider gets DX12 Multi-GPU support. Yeay, hope more games goes along this path.

He he he Another reason for SLIs and CFXs

Another note, Battlefield 1

Yeay for Nvidia Pascal and AMD GCN GPUs. Not so for Maxwell.

It's as if AMD is encouraging "console ports" to come to PC, when PC gamers absolutely DO NOT want console ports. And because AMD is not willing to gamble on a "big chip" card now because not many games supports DX12, and if the take-up on DX12 fails  and more devs go OpenGL or Vulkan, their "big chip" cards will be branded a total disaster and a waste of money for the kind of performance they give out.

Even if the SLI/CFX benefit is there, the earthquake-like framepacing isn't worth it for midrange cards. For both cases, SLI or CFX. SLI or CFX counts for a very niche few, less than 1% based on reports posted. That is why most people who SLI or CFX, they do that at the higher end level cards like 290X/390X/FuryX or 980/Ti/TitanX level, because if SLI/CFX doesn't work, they still have a relatively powerful single card performance to live with.

Explicit Multi Adapter is also one of the touted improvement in DX12, but again, at the current rate AMD cards are being released, it is holding things back altogether. And not a "1+1 = 2", no 100% scaling there.

*
Like I wrote earlier, its not AMD that's pushing for DX12 or all this console porting, its Microsoft. And game developers don't have a choice anyway. Just as previous games were written on DX9, and then DX11, developers cannot run away from DX12. Game developers had always port games wither from PC to consoles, or from consoles to PC. Difference is that in DX11, its high-level API, whereas consoles are ran on low-level APIs. DX12 is Microsoft way of bringing the PC gaming API to the same low-level APIs as consoles. Its inevitable. There will be future games that will run on OpenGL or Vulkan, but I believe the bulk will be on DirectX, and like or not, Microsoft has set it for DX12. And I think from a game developers point of view, wouldn't it be better that I start working with low level API for PC now since they have to do it for consoles anyway. Most AAA games run on PC, Xbox and PS4. I can't recall a single game that runs exclusively on PC, but I can remember a few that is exclusive to consoles.

http://wccftech.com/rise-of-the-tomb-raide...-compute-vsync/

http://www.tweaktown.com/news/52809/battle...orks/index.html

News like offers a view of what things to come.

DX12 explicit multi-adaptor is no longer within the control of the respective GPU manufacturer (unlike SLI to Nvidia and CFX for AMD), its now up to the game developer to use it or not (again another advantage of low level API) A game running explicit multi-adaptor will no longer see Nvidia or AMD GPUs, it will just see GPUs, hence you can get and AMD - Nvidia CrossSLI. If a game developer manages to properly implement and harness explicit multiadaptor, then its only a good thing for consumers.

AMD as "good mining cards" were like what, 2011? biggrin.gif Half a decade ago, no one's been mining with graphics card since 2014, and that also is like a last-stand.

StarCraft II and Star Citizen. There are developers who are adamant they won't dumb down their games just to cater to the lowest common denominator: consoles.

The sad thing is, PCs have been on the receiving end of poor console port, and PC gamers are fed up of it. We shouldn't be accepting these piss poor creations and adjust our specs (or influence our GPU purchasing decision for that matter) to cater to this.

Yeap, rumors it could be launch as early as next month. At least 50% faster than GTX 1080. 12GB and 16GB RAM. Wonder what the price would be? RM 5K?

I will be waiting for benchmarks. In the games that matters to me, the GTX 1080 Titan needs to be at least 60% faster than GTX 1080. Otherwise I think I'll go GTX 1080 SLI

Sabar sabar. You sure are mad at consoles, arent you? What to do, game developers also want to make money. Not many games left exclusive on certain platform, just like Gran Turismo for PS4 and Halo for Xbox. Now some go Android and Apple somemore (albeit totally different experience). The only thing I dont know is, do game developers develop their games for console first, and then port to PC, or develop for PC and then port to console, or do they say, okay, I'm developing a game, and I want to be on PC, Xbox and PS4, and develop concurrently?

I dont mind games going to consoles first, because they're faster to be developed based on a single spec sheet, before they go PC (which have to handle multitude of differing specs). Case in point: GTAV. I refuse to play the inferior console version and waited that 6 months long to play the PC version, and it was worth it. That was a PC game done right, not a PC port.

Off topic but to answer your scanner predicament, search for the app "Vuescan". Works with many old scanners. I'm using it for my very old scanner and it works flawlessly. Just that it is a paid app. There's a free trial version to see whether your scanner works with the app or not.

Yes it doesn't not necessarily need to match GTX980, as long as it beats RX480 lol.

I think 1060 almost guarantee to beat RX480. nVidia and AMD are smart to mark their card's price to match competitor's performance. Slightly expensive than RX480 but performance overcome it, force AMD to drop price for product launch not long ago and it sure looks good biggrin.gif

I think they focus more on console, then port to PC later ( which took time as not easier than consoles ). Quite rare to see a game support both console and PC while PC version isnt bad, not simple and lazy port.
Sometimes we hate consoles because when it's port to PC, either too buggy or they purposely cap the performance like 30fps doh.gif

I dont get it either. I need Windows 10 to run Killer Instinct, Quantum Break and Gears of War Ultimate Edition. And I use Nvidia cards. While these AMD fanboys champion DX12 and yet they dont even run DX12-related games, only citing "future-proofing" as their excuse. They still run CS:GO or DOTA or whatever simpler games that does not even need DX12 to run at all, nor are they graphics intensive. Go figure! rclxub.gif

Are they waiting for the "magic DX12 driver" that's gonna turn their mediocre cards into 980Ti or Titan X, that finally allows them to play Rise of The Tomb Raider beyond 1080p at acceptable framerates in two to three years later? Since it's "future proof" and all. rolleyes.gif

From the leaks, in Ashes dx12, RX480 edges 1060 only just a little bit. I think nVidia's asynch emulation has a lot of merit.

If I remember correctly, 1070 only lose a little over R9 Fury in DX12 games but lead a lot on DX11 games, while slightly cheaper than R9 Fury.
So I dont see how AMD's DX12 advancement future proofing their GPU, unless Vega have lots of surprise for us. We're still years before DX12 only games become mainstream, which by the time both team will have few newer generation cards biggrin.gif

Actually its not DX12, but specifically DX12 Async Compute feature. I guess this is going to be a familiar theme when it comes to games with Async Compute. AMD cards lagging far behind Nvidia cards in DX11, will make up ground when Async Compute is available.

AMD made a technological bet and its happens that their bet paid off. Async Compute was available with AMD GCN 1 cards back in 2011 when DX11 still reigns. Sure they put in the effort pushing DX12 to have Async Compute.

For Nvidia Pascal arch, I don't think Async Compute matter so much (still have contradicting articles wether Pascal truly support DX12 native Async Compute or using Nvidia own Async Compute implementation). Pascal cards is powerful enough to go through DX11 and DX12 regardless of Async Compte (though I personally believe based on benchmark I saw so far, Pascal does not support DX12 Asycn Compute because there no or little difference running DX11 or DX12).

I think impact of DX12 Async Compute feature is more pronounced on the older 28nm cards. With DX12 Async Compute, AMD older cards (the R9 290s, Furys) got something like a new lease of life, as their performance jumped significantly. Don't know if its a good thing for AMD, because it only means that users with their older cards does not have to upgrade to to take advantage of DX12.

Whereas sadly, for Maxwell, they gain nothing with DX12 Async Compute implementation. Which could be good for Nvidia business and its means Maxwell users have to upgrade to Pascal (or not so good news, jump ship to AMD). Again this is all dependent on games. News on raise of tomb raider and highly anticipated upcoming Battlefield 1 supporting with Async Compute will shape the buyers decision once benchmark comes out. Example from the recently released patch for Raise of the Tomb Raider

"Patch Notes for Rise of the Tomb Raider:

- Adds DirectX12 Multi-GPU support. Many of you have requested this, so DirectX 12 now supports NVIDIA SLI and AMD CrossFireX configurations
- The benefits of DirectX 12 are still the same, but now you are less likely to be GPU bottlenecked and can reach higher framerates due to the improved CPU utilization DirectX 12 offers.
- Adds utilization of DirectX 12 Asynchronous Compute, on AMD GCN 1.1 GPUs and NVIDIA Pascal-based GPUs, for improved GPU performance." - Sadly no Maxwell

Its Fuji Xerox Docucentre, scans over the LAN network and its not driver dependent. I think it has more to do with network sharing and security. I think Windows 10 can get the scanning working with this Fuji Xerox Docucentre, but need to tinker with the PC network security, folder permission etc which is quite a hassle. My Windows Vista, simple, create folder to share. and configure the Fuji LAN scanning to point to my shared folder, and it just works.

Hmm ya Async compute keep mentioned in DX12. From what I remember ( lazy to search and check fact ), Pascal implement nVidia's own solution to async compute, or at least the scheduling part, so it's improve a bit on async compute but not truly adopt.

EDIT: I'm glad I didn't go 980ti path biggrin.gif
