current using with old monitor 1400 x 900 is only 900p. soon budget collecting decided to upgrade 4k monitor or go for 1440p monitor.
If I were you I would get a GTX1070 with 1440p monitor. NVIDIA GeForce Community V16 (welcum pascal), ALL HAIL NEW PASCAL KING GTX1080 out now

QUOTE(stringfellow @ Jul 8 2016, 01:49 PM) It's a wash, really. http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2476143 I see! 3% is almost "margin of error" kinda. Neither here nor there. In that case, either one is not a bad choice. Slightly cheaper gets more power consumption. |

QUOTE(Someonesim @ Jul 8 2016, 04:31 PM) I used to have my rule of buying GPU not more than RM1000. That time, mid range GPU can handle all games with highest setting on my puny 1440x900 Won't drop unless GTX11x0 series come. Like what we have in GTX980Ti stock clearance. Now upgrading monitor resolution = more burden on GPU Thanks both sifu, guess I'll hold a bit for 1070 to drop price or promotion. |

QUOTE(guguzhiao @ Jul 10 2016, 11:19 AM) i don't think the 1060 is going to beat the 980. Here's why. Err....nVidia never promised 1060 is going to beat the 980. They only said it will have 980 performance at cheaper price/power consumption, means it will match the 980; does not guarantee will beat it.760 never beat the 680 960 never beat the 780 its a logical move for nVidia to keep their product stack streamlined so that people know what to expect in next line of cards. Its basically the same with the x80Ti as well 970 was similar to 780Ti 1070 is similar to 980Ti. The is a pattern to nVidia's relase so its quite predictable. Your comparison from the history is not relevant anymore because AMD did not have a product like RX480 at mainstream price back then. Also: 1) GTX1060 is directly aimed at beating RX480 (USD239 for 8GB RAM version) 2) RX480 performs in between of GTX970 and GTX980 3) So to beat RX480, GTX1060 needs to match GTX980 4) nVidia excludes the SLI connectivity from GTX1060. This means GTX1070 could be beaten by 2 GTX1060 if there is SLI. |

QUOTE(goldfries @ Jul 10 2016, 09:38 PM) but hor, actually GTX 970 performs around the GTX 970, far from being anywhere near the GTX 980. You mean RX480 performs around GTX970? That aside, what you said is correct - around GTX 980 performance but doesn't mean beat it. More like in between 970 and 980. btw to beat RX 480 it doesn't have to match GTX 980. It just has to give same or better price to performance ratio. Yes it doesn't not necessarily need to match GTX980, as long as it beats RX480 lol. |

QUOTE(khelben @ Jul 11 2016, 01:17 AM) AMD's current philosophy is, in my opinion, a little "neither here nor there" for PC gaming. Their GCN is very compute-optimized, good for parallel workloads (probably why they make good mining cards?) but in PC gaming, most games are not designed that way. And nVidia is architectured how PC games are designed hence they are a lot more efficient, especially since AMD would need to have more transistors to have the same output. Perhaps that is why AMD's power efficiency is no where near like nVidia's. Are you sure? Everywhere I read, it's CUDA efficiency > openCL for the same workload. l'm not sure what kind of implementation bit mining programs use. AMD GPU is faster there? But console game developers do use Asynch compute to make their games run more efficient (all consoles have AMD GPUs) so AMD make chips that support it. And I am guessing that AMD wants to save cost in not redesigning a whole new architecture for the PC gaming market but adopt a lot of their stuff from their console chip. AMD after all have way lesser R&D money compared to nVidia. DX11 as far as I know doesn't have asynchronous compute support and AMD have been pushing Microsoft to come up with an updated API that does. A bit too long so AMD made Mantle (later gave it Khronos and renamed it to Vulkan). And then microsoft went "okay okay we have DX12 now" So when game developers actually use asynch compute (DX12) in their games, AMD cards perform really well. Like Hitman, Quantum Break, Total War: Warhammer, and Ashes. In guru3d's review, RX480 actually runs faster than GTX980 in those games. Rise of the Tomb Raider is an exception, read somewhere that they only apply pseudo dx12 stuff, gotta read up on that more. So yeah it really depends on game developers but for the current market and probably at least the next 2 years, nVidia > AMD. It'll be interesting to see how the new cards from both camps run on Vulkan. Basically GPU is still a vector processor. The workload is definitely parallel in nature. Efficiency of both designs are much more complicated than that. |

QUOTE(Someonesim @ Jul 11 2016, 08:20 AM) Try go reddit and there's many fanboys there. I used to thought nVidia fanboys are bad, until I met blind red team supporter. AMD Msia shouldn't raise the price to 1299 in the first place. Now they risk pissing off early adopters if they drop the price. I think 1060 almost guarantee to beat RX480. nVidia and AMD are smart to mark their card's price to match competitor's performance. Slightly expensive than RX480 but performance overcome it, force AMD to drop price for product launch not long ago and it sure looks good |

QUOTE(babykids @ Jul 17 2016, 02:51 PM) Voucher code - RAYA12 Not only that. The receipt issued to you will be written RM1999. I bought PALIT GTX1070 JESTREAM RM1999 - RM239.88. I guess no retail shop can give you such discount. Cause it nothing to do with seller (they do get the full payment) , gemfive pay for your bill. Great purchase BTW. Now I'm thinking whether I should get the GTX970 or 1070. |

QUOTE(adilz @ Jul 18 2016, 05:01 PM) If you wanna see the fps comparison, go straight to 6:20. Hmmm if you have old PC, upgrade path looks like GPU ---> 4K monitor ---> CPU IMHO, once should try matching their GPU with the native resolution of the monitor. E.g. gaming at 1440p on GTX1070 vs 1080p on GTX1080, which one will you choose? This post has been edited by davidletterboyz: Jul 18 2016, 06:11 PM |
