Yeah, 980Ti is still a great card especially now when the card is selling at a great discount. However, if I were to choose between 1070 and 980Ti, I'd probably go for 1070 due to lower wattage and more ram unless the price difference is great i.e. much cheaper 980Ti.
I will go with the GTX 980 Ti. An overclocked GTX 980 Ti still beats GTX 1070 in many ways.

Don't have to bother about heat and power draw when you're not running 24/7 full load.

I remember the 4850 is around 600-700 RM. Maybe less? 4870 is slightly over 1k.
Both are 199 / 299 card. The exchange rate at that time 3.2/3.3.

That was the best time for PC graphics. AMD really did slapped nvidia.  This is how it supposed to be to capture the mainstream market. Polaris is half baked attempt.

Because the discussion is almost same. I also get mixed up. There's another thread in Hardware section where we repeat the same arguments.

There's a gtx1070 available at gemfive atm, if you can use the 12% off code on it, you should be able to save at least RM200 on one.

Edit: Just checked, it works. RM1847 (with discount) for a Palit 1070 GameRock.

Summary of Performance - 1440P Overclocked:

GTX 1070 is 3% faster than GTX 980 Ti
GTX 1080 is 23% faster than GTX 980 Ti

3% is almost "margin of error" kinda. Neither here nor there.

I tried that. I OCed th e GTX 1070 and I can't get it to overtake the Gigabyte GTX 980 Ti Xtreme Gaming, that also that model can be OCed even further.

Yes. Reference GTX 1070 (and even with some OCing done).

Try as I may, I just can't get it to overtake the GTX 980 Ti.

The GTX 980 Ti does have memory bandwidth and CUDA core advantage.

I see!
In that case, either one is not a bad choice. Slightly cheaper gets more power consumption.

TO be fair, have to try it with both as reference. I linked the Anandtech OCed versions of both in reference form, and they're just 3% apart.

Yup. I tried. Good thing I also have benchmarks from the reference model, albeit an older driver and done last year.

In some benchmarks they're really close (slight lead for the GTX 1080) while others the GTX 1080 widens the lead.

Means 980 ti with some OC will easily beat 1070 on current games, if want DX12 and some new tech in Pascal, then get 1070, sounds like good deal on 980 ti given price drop continue cool2.gif

For the 980Ti, it's a clearance sale, meaning most likely less than 10 units, once sold, it's gone forever. Resellers here dont hold stocks anymore than 10. Only new stock, with preorder deposits paid for, then only they bring in larger numbers.

I'm all too familiar with how resellers and distributors here work. They never stock high end stuff unless there's demand.

Thanks for that info. Guess if I want to jump on 980 ti bandwagon, need to decide fast.
I'm saw a LYN seller have Gigabyte 980 ti @ 1825 ( winforce ) and 1925 ( G1 gaming ), didnt check if got stock or not

I wonder how will 980 ti OC vs 1070 for the next 2 years. Will 1070 gain much more performance boost with driver optimization during coming months/years, that it's much worthy to go 1070 path ? hmm.gif 980 ti have upper hand on cude cores count and 384 bit memory, which will benefit via OC.
