Electronics are definitely taxed. In fact, just about everything is taxed and held up by them bloodsuckers.

Another option would be PriceJapan's Mitsubishi HD3100 (Rm6xxx). According to reviews, it has that image depth. need all your advice on this one. Thanks in advance.
Has anybody order projector from PriceJapan before?

Do we have to pay import tax if we order projector from oversea?

Have you tried the local distributors? Believe me when I tell u this, you can get prices similar to pricejapan IN Malaysia!! U just need to shop around and negotiate persistently.

Importing electronics is just too much hassle, and dun forget, waranty will be a problem, unless u get it in black and white.

Are u sure we can get the same price in Msia as from PriceJapan?

For example, the TW700 is only USD12xx (RM45xx) from PriceJapan. How can we get this price from the distributors in Msia?

Thanks for all the useful advice, Jason. Will keep this in mind when go window shopping notworthy.gif Bro Jason, u know who is the local distributor for Mitsubishi projectors. Already tried Monsoon and Mediaplex KLCC, none of them carry this brand anymore.

Sadly, I have to stick to a budget of 6k. If I go all out for 1080p light cannon like the Epson nod.gif afraid no more cash for audio side of things. Now, if some kind hearted soul could point me the right direction to a Mitsubishi HD3100 in Malaysia..

Bro, I find the AX-100 PQ is better but the problem that you guys mentioned made me to think twice. I cant understand why the big difference in price. If I do buy HD70, I will ask my bro-in-law to bring it from US. Just wondering will it be taxed. Or put into a lappy bag brows.gif

no worry sure no tax is hand carry and if they ask just tell them it's for ofiice/business use. I did carried my office projector for business trip in oveasea and so far, they don't bother to ask. biggrin.gif

To me, HD projector no hurry, unless I can get the HD70 for $749 USD, bcos I still have my cheapo and good PB6001 prj mah. brows.gif brows.gif frankly speaking I need to wait for uncle "HO" supply HD material 1st leh else no go.

Hi, I m confuse now. I m interesting to buy a projector but we are now in transition from normal projector(or HD ready, but not sure what does it mean) to HD projector. But the HD projector still expensive but I guess would drop next year. Is it worst to wait or just get the normal one now in the market? Once everything in HD, are the projector still can be use in HD mode?

HD projector with (720P, 1080P) still expensive here. u may try those normal HT projector from brand like infocus, BenQ, Optoma and cost below 4K, there are good enough for normal DVD movies.

just FYI, they worked perfect if the screen projection less than 85" diagonal length (X) and viewing distance ard 1.9X-2.3X.

<Once everything in HD, are the projector still can be use in HD mode?>
Sure OK.

anyone using an infocus sp 4805??? i love the video quality but it's a bit too noisy (fan noise)...any tips??

btw - i got this at recent av show for rm2.5k...not too bad i guess...if only it's a lot quieter....

btw ozal...most projectors can handle HD...but HD ready (480i and above) ones won't display full HD pixel...it will downscale or something...but it will still display...and any HD source given maybe be displayed a tad better than your regular dvd 480p signals...

help me on my fan noise issue guys...

I think manufactureres will try to sell you anything, some even try to market multimedia projector as HT projector. So to qualify as a HT projector, the following are some things to look out for:

1. At least 480 lines of resolution, why... standard DVD has 480lines of visible pictures although it actually carries 525 lines.
2. Contast ratio of at least 5,000:1, why... better colour and pop to the picture, the higher the contrast the better the picture (this is a general rule). Though most of the budget range of HT Projectors, my TW700 cheat by using a single or double iris to reduce the light output to get good contrast ratio numbers
3. Lumen count from 800-2000, why... for viewing flexibility, can watch day and night
4. Zoom lense of at least 1.5x, why... for placement flexibility
5. Low decibel fan 25db seems to be about the idustry standard for acceptable HT projectors.
6. Compatible with HD720 and HD1080 so that u can use it with the new formats
7. Good warranty and bulb replacement (usually first 3 month)

These figures will move up and down based on personal preferences.

Thanks Jasonkly. Very informative. I will use your guide as my buying guide. Well, I m still thnking of getting the projector later for a full HD since next year not that far away. And consider next year is oylmpic season, TV and projector will going to be cheap and alot I guess. smile.gif

Can I ask one thing jasonkly. What does a "Compatible with HD720 and HD1080 so that u can use it with the new formats" mean? Do you mean the compactible in term of connection (connector), firmware or the LCD is already in 1080 line that would be ready to accept HD?

"Compatible with HD720 and HD1080"

This means that if you buy a lower resolution Projector, say 480p, then, when HD720 is offered on say.... Astro (fat chance) .... or if you choose to invest in BluRay/HDDVD which outputs 1080, then you can still play this thru your projector. WHat happens is that the projector down scales the 720 or 1080 lines to the native resolution of the projector.

HD720 and HD1080 is not exacly called a new format, its just more resolution. Bluray and HDDVD are new formats, different from Standard DVD format.

Connectors for all the above are the same, either component or HDMI, the latter being the latest and greatest that you must ensure ur unit has1!!

In all this resolution confusion, stretch your ringgit to get a Native HD1080 projector and dun worry about all this. If I were in the market for a projector now that is what I would do.

Sorry for the late reply bro, juz been busy wif work, otherwise cannot afford a projector biggrin.gif Haven't called them yet but goin to do a free advertisment for bro htkaki. He is selling the Optoma HD70 for only RM4500. That's pretty close to the current US price. Think I'm goin to start with a Optoma cos Mitsu here not popular. What do u think?

Optoma is a good buy for the price, but make sure u understand the limitations of that Optoma when u buy or u will regret later. Go audition it before u make ur final decision.

Thanks jason! Actually I've seen the HD70 at the AV Show. Passable black levels to me. Already accounted for the fixed offset this projector has. Thank god IKEA has this customisable shelf that's perfect for projector mounting. Planning to mount it on the bottom of shelf to accomodate the offset.

Lucky for me also, can't see the RB's on this 4x color wheel. Hopefully I haven't left out else? BTW who has a HD70 here? Opinions are most welcomed. thumbup.gif
