Hi guys,

I would like to ask, is there any online price guide for projectors for malaysian market? Else, I would love to know which shop is your personal favourite (around KL) and what is your suggestion if the budget is only 3K, what model and brand of projector that I could get with that amount of money (my concern is more towards the life of it rather than the picture quality). Thanks for the help guys. smile.gif

You are buying it for home theater or for multimedia? At RM3k, if its for home theater, you can try your luck on older models of InFocus which is selling around RM2999.

If not, then go for the rest since quality is not important... then, why not you just go internet do a search and see which one give you the most on lamp life...

Usually, all around 2k-3k running hours.

Guys, I got my PJ back from them. They talked a lot. But no answer. Changed me a new bulb tongue.gif, and they said the lense also changed.

The result? Still some minor discoloration. But better than before. The manager also agreed that it i a defect but seems like Japan say it is still within the spec.

So, since I get the chance to chit chat with them, I also told them about the red/green line problem and as well as the flicker problem. They say OK.

So, now I am their guinea pig. Saw another unit sent in recently.

Hi

If there is an online guide I would love to have a look at it. For a budget under 3k, you should consider, in addition to infocus, Benq, Epsons (DVD/projector combo)... almost every brand would have a projector at that price range. You whould get a 480p projector for this price. The projector in economy mode should give you at least 3000hrs of bulb life. Good luck with your search and do not forget to tell us what you are getting. We want pictures and a review.

For calibration, I bought this...

I don't think there is much calibration needed. I paid about RM85 for this from Amazon.com.

Since I have never done a calibration before, can you explain how the process goes, using this calibration disc?

The DVD got 2 sections... Audio and Visual

It comes with the disc and a 3 color filter shade.

So, they will show you some still pics, color tone and black n white tone...
Then, they will ask you to adjust to the level to get the perfect contrast and color balance.

There are few steps to do. And if you want the manual, you can go to their webpage to download.

So, for me, I've done it once before I sent for repair. Then, then I did not do it after I got my unit back (that was yesterday).

Hi Timothyy,
In your opinion, is it worthwhile to get this DVD?

Hi,

De DVE is almost similar to Ovation's Avia, I think...

It has basic calibrations for video but wat I like is de audio cablibrations track for both 5 channels and de .1 but dat also basic, if wan to tame room modes on sub and all tat then u need more advanced stuff...

Cheers

For RM85, I guess its ok unless you are too used to pirated stuff.

To me, at least I have something to refer to and know the limit of the projector.

Avia is more expensive. I think you can get it for USD3x or 4x. From reviews, they say it is more user friendly and got some actor guide you step by step.

doh.gif , at this rate we will be running around in circles try to determine exactly what dirtrun uses as a sub.

Back to the topic, can all those expleain the before and after effects of calibration. Was there a noticeable difference?

And how much does a "professional: calibration cost?

Calibrate or not ... the difference is just the peace of mind.

Why fix it when it's not broken, some say.

Hehehe.

Okay le on de record I run a PB12+ ... actually I was looking at de cylinders but no choice they dont ship those...

On calibration, I guess as you progress into dis HT hobby you will want de best from your system and calibration from discs like Avia or DVE is relatively inexpensive DIY way to improve de system ... I wouldnt look at it being not broken so why fix but more like modding it to be more efficient like say changing a better K&N air filter from stock standard ones...

I will agree with you on this point. Calibration is helping the system work as best that it can in your own environment.

The PB12+ is downward firing, so dunno is this picture is familiar to you. Its from my DIY sealed sub. (Do not like the sound of ported subs). The driver unit looks the same as the PB12.3 used in the 12+, but mine is dual coil, the second coil for the sensing mechanism of the servo plate amplifier.
