Don't trust that, my Advance 30 started since July 2015 but it was stated Dec 2014 that time I upgraded to VIP10. If you want to know, call CS, they can see from their system.

Of course it is not a UniFi issue.

What stage do you get to before you realise that you can't download anything at all?

I recently went from 10Mbps to 30Mbps, which came with the change of equipment so the old DIR-615 got replaced with DIR-850l. Everything is much faster aside from some hiccups now and then on computers but mobile connectivity went to the gutter. Googling takes about 30 to 40 seconds and maybe a retry or two, battery dies super fast due to wakelocks and it's better to leave it off wifi due to how crappy everything is when connected.

Anyone have the same problem?

Maybe that particular rapidgator server for that file is having probs. Have you tried a different file just to check?

Also try a different browser.

I am pretty certain this is more of your mobile device's issue than the router's. Your router has nothing to do with your phone's wakelock.

Are you on 2.4 or 5GHz when the problem occurs? Some installers like to separate the wifi and some not.

In my uncle's house, the installer setup the same SSID for both freqs. My phone preferred connecting to 5Ghz and it was just not good enough for the whole house. So we separated them and connected only to the 2.4Ghz SSID and that pretty much covered the whole house with adequate signal.

Talking about it, my phone battery drains much faster whenever I'm in China connected to their router. Especially those routers in commercial areas like restaurants and hotels. laugh.gif One of the mysteries which I still cannot solve since my first travel to Beijing in 2013 and was still happening in my last trip in April to Yunnan. laugh.gif

It might be due to google location scanning, if I am not mistaken china blocks google. As such, the phone keeps trying to send data to google but keeps failing, causing wakelocks. Take this with a grain of salt, just a hypothesis.

I'm pretty certain connecting to wifi is the cause of it, apparently Google Play Services, Gmail and some other stuff go crazy and pretty much keeps my phone awake all the time. It doesn't happen when off wifi or before the 30Mbps upgrade. Seems to happen to all mobile devices in the house, I never use my tab before the upgrade and one charge usually lasts about a month, post-upgrade and it dies in a day.

The SSID is the same for both and it happens on both 2.4 and 5GHz.

Makes sense and yes Google is blocked in China. How do I disable the Google Location scanning? Gotta prepare for my next China trip...

How do you tell which channel the device is on if the SSIDs are the same?

And it's happening in areas where you're confident that you have good signal from the router?

Have you looked into interference from neighbours?

The only thing I can think of is that your phone is sending a lot of retransmits which uses up battery. The router isn't receiving as well as the DIR-615. Adjust its location, change channels are some of the usual things to try. Do your testing one frequency at a time so you have fewer variables.

This. Most devices do not know when it should stop holding on the 5Ghz band and switch to the much better 2.4Ghz band.

At least some high end consumer routers come with band steering now. biggrin.gif
