bearbrick: there have been some issues with MAXIS incoming phone calls. Does your unlock remedy the situation; are you referring to the free iphone unlock solution?

Wei and Terranova,

Just a simple question

Do you think the iphone is worth all the hoo haa?

I was really excited about it. I Like pda's in general but more particularly on qwerty based (using 838pro now)
I might consider Iphone when it is release but

the poor battery life and it really long list of restrictions kinda make me think again.

Do you think there will be an software update to rectify those minor restrictions or even on battery efficiency? Strange, MAC OS have always been an excellent power saver...  sad.gif  sad.gif

I believe most of my gripes can be resolved as they are mostly software issues - nothing that a software/firmware update won't cure. apple may be experienced with computer OS but looks like they're still noobish when it comes to phone features and usability.

the only thing that concerns me is that the unlock will fail after we upgrade, so i'm tempted to resist any updates and let someone else be the lab rat. smile.gif

lexta is correct - ipod features with screen off doesn't drain battery - used it on a long haul flight and still managed good leftover battery juice. but moot point as having an iphone means using it as a phone for calling and sms, not for multimedia. on that token, battery life is not great if you are a medium/heavy user making calls and sms.

One more thing - bluetooth feature is currently pretty much useless to me since u can't transfer files using bluetooth or even pair with another iphone(!). the bluetooth's only usage now is to pair it with apple's BT headset.

yes indeed, there's no build-in file browser. and no bluetooth file sharing profile either. but it's just a matter of time. it's a race with hacker & Apple.

Perhaps someone could try the new open sourced method and share their results -- as of today, I wouldn't bother spending $$ for an unlock as it is now freely available over the Internet.

Actually I wouldn't call Apple newbies in phone design, they're just very American. If you've lived in the US for any amount of time, you'll realize that most of the adult users will use voice mail rather than SMS and would dial the number rather than search through the phone addressbook. This is reflected in the iPhone design where SMS is a bit lacking and visual voice mail is relatively powerful, and the addressbook lacks a proper search feature.

damn it! i guess i'll have to switch to digi -- unless they come up with a fully functional hack by the time i get my iphone

I talked to some of the hackers on the #iphone channel and they said it has to do with the iphone hardware, NOT the telcom provider so hopefully this can be fixed.

iPhone will release at Malaysia or to be exact, Asia, on 2008. Early or middle of the year.

To all iPhone owner that's using Maxis line, I want to know if your SIM is older than 5 yr. Did you ever upgrade your SIM during the jump to 64bit card? I can't remember when but there's once that Maxis offered free upgrade for existing SIM to 64bit card that can do more & store more. I wonder if there's any luck with older SIM.
