got a question here, the unlock seems to work for firmware 1.02
if i got a iphone with firmware 1.01, how is the workaround.
if it possible to upgrade the firmware thru itunes without a valid AT&T

Actually I wouldn't call Apple newbies in phone design, they're just very American. If you've lived in the US for any amount of time, you'll realize that most of the adult users will use voice mail rather than SMS and would dial the number rather than search through the phone addressbook. This is reflected in the iPhone design where SMS is a bit lacking and visual voice mail is relatively powerful, and the addressbook lacks a proper search feature.

Valid point.

Guess they'll need to change their pov when iPhone hits our part of the world - over 7 billion sms per day iirc.

Just activate the iphone and upgrade before you unlock

but to activate the iphone, you need a valid AT&T sim card.
I mean u must subscribe to AT&T.
Is there a way to do that?

Well i got a friend in LA now and tempted to ask him to get the iPhone for me. But there are several concerns which bother me.

1.I've got a Maxis number and i'm too keen to change my number just to have the iPhone as it would be too troublesome for ppl to contact me. One of the forumer in previous page mentioned maxis works perfectly but never hear from him since. Is that true?

2.Another thing is, would future updates render the 'unlock' useless?

3.Yeah, can it be activated without the AT&T SIM?

4.Would be cheaper during the release here in Malaysia than me buying it now at USD399 (at an exchange rate of USD 1 = RM3.5)?

mudevilz & zc_squash, the iphone comes shipped with an AT&T SIM card in the sim slot. When u plug the iphone into your notebook/pc's usb slot & run iTunes, you will be greeted with an activation splash screen. click CANCEL and you will then be brought to the iPhone settings page, where u can update the firmware, sync data, etc.

with contract. cheapest plan is $50+ for 400 mins, two year contract.

that means you have to pay £399 once for the set and $50 every month.

I am thinking of getting an iPhone myself, but does anyone know where to get one in Malaysia? KLWEEKLY www.klweekly.com reported that you can unlock it, but will it work with Maxis, Celcom or Digi? Help!

IPhone can be bought in Apple store and AT&T they dont use a knife and force you to sign contract.

how can it be? so u means every iphone in malaysia is actually tie with the AT&T contract for 2 years? the iphone in MY, who going to pay the monthly fees for AT&T in US ?

then how those iphone seller in ebay do it? they bought the phone with AT&T contract, then seller the phone, so they continue paying the AT&T fees?
