Here is the forum that made the hack available:

RM350 is a bit steep. How are you unlocking the phone?

when the iphone is only $100 more than the ipod touch it makes more sense for me to get the iphone.

Added on September 7, 2007, 9:45 pmI heard the hack does not work with MAXIS cell users:

http://www.hackint0sh.org/forum/showthread...?t=2734&page=14

Can anyone confirm this?

I'm doing the hardware unlock.
350 is very reasonable price.

Does that require opening the phone, or is it just a sim copy method?

Well, i think now is confirmed that iphonesimfree will be released on Monday:

http://www.engadget.com/2007/09/07/iphones...pp-backend-now/

However, you'll have to buy it from resellers for $50.00 (which is still a lot less than what some people on th is board want to charge!);

I'm def. buying my iphone now. Hope to be the first one on the block to get it to work with maxis smile.gif

Another unlock method -- this one seems to work, and it doesn't look that difficult!

PSS Sim Kit

The video:

It seems like its from Taiwan -- do they sell these sim kit holders in K.L?

latest news:

apple is giving $100 iCredit to all iPhone owners (except those bought it 14 days ago which is still covered under 14 days price match policy or unopened box yet for refund) to cover back the $200 price slash announced few days ago. icredit can be spend on the apple store/website.

not so bad!
*
i heard AMEX is recrediting $200 as well, so you might be lucky and get the store credit AND $200 back.

ok i found out even with hardware unlock iphone maxis is not working in receiving call for iphone.
But the "I WILL FOLLOW YOU" works on all the function in IPOD

yeah I read that in a thread somewhere. Apparently it has to do with MAXIS as some people have gotten it to work with digi. Perhaps the software unlock will fix this problem?

Here is the torrent for Iphone Sim Free but you'll need a working authentic code with their servers for it to work i.e. sort of like a serial number. It would be great if someone could reverse engineer the code so we could have a free & open source unlock.

Maxis = No incoming call. Doesn't matter Hotlink or Postpaid.

Wei -- isn't that only because of the hardware hack?

Will maxis work with the new iphone sim free software hack?

bearbrick: there have been some issues with MAXIS incoming phone calls. Does your unlock remedy the situation; are you referring to the free iphone unlock solution?

Perhaps someone could try the new open sourced method and share their results -- as of today, I wouldn't bother spending $$ for an unlock as it is now freely available over the Internet.

Ok. I've unlocked my iPhone using the free iUnlock released earlier today.
Tested with DiGI - everything works.
Tested with Maxis - everything except CALL IN.
For more info, CLICK HERE.

damn it! i guess i'll have to switch to digi -- unless they come up with a fully functional hack by the time i get my iphone

I talked to some of the hackers on the #iphone channel and they said it has to do with the iphone hardware, NOT the telcom provider so hopefully this can be fixed.

QUOTE(derred @ Sep 13 2007, 06:07 PM)
ADDED: So that basically means, u don't have any 2 years contract. What u will have is a monthly. So instead of two years, u just pay like one month instead of 24. It is troublesome. Good things come to those who wait. No point of getting now. Ur giving away ur hard earn money to Stevie blindly IMO. When the time comes, u will feel like kicking urself in the nuts. If u dont have one, then try other alternative. If I where to use with other telco; I'll wait. Smoother process, better phone (meaning better features and that will includes something like capacity hopefully, battery surely, not to mention all those nasty2 features.) If ur thinking just to boast among friends, cmon grow up. I know it's a great deal with it's price now. But certainly not for everyone that is.
*
uh derred, where are you getting your facts from? I've never heard of anyone paying for 1 month out of the 24 months -- from what i've derived from the forums you don't need to activate the AT&T card, just run the unlock app and you'll be fine.

I'll be getting my iphone soon, you're more than welcome to wait for a more non-technical approach (i.e the official apple version, but that could take months); I've heard theres even a GUI now that requires one click for the open source unlock so I don't see much of a problem.

As for the price, I think $399 is a steal. I have a $50 credit in the store so i'll be getting mine for $349. $600 expensive -- yes, and not worth it IMHO, $399 hits the right price point, and if you don't need that much space, you could always go for the 4GB version for $299.

just now goto maxis center check why maxis line cannot call in. She said maxis block the incoming coz iphone is not release in malaysia and there is no way to unlock untill iphone release in malaysia.
*
well you should tell them you'll be switching telcom providers and so will all other iphone users, unless they fix the problem smile.gif

seriously though, I will be considering switching to digi if this problem isn't fixed by the end of october (when i get my iphone).

The new iphone firmware is coming:

http://www.engadget.com/2007/09/14/iphone-...rt-coming-soon/

The firmware can hopefully 1. not disable the hack 2. fix maxis incoming calls with this new 'international support' feature.

fingers crossed.

Jee, this guy is scorned!

1. At $599, it is ridiculously expensive. (Add in the cost of an AT&T contract and you get close to $1500)

The price is now $399, and $299 appropriately depending on what version you get.

2. Those who want to buy one must sell their soul to evil mega-corporation AT&T.

Not with the new iUnlock software.

3. Japan already has technologically superior phones, and theyâeuro(tm)re far cheaper.

Maybe? But I doubt it integrates your computer, music and everything together as well as the iphone though.

4. Slower internet than the commercials show: âeuro The data experience is going to be very slow. If youâeuro(tm)re on a cellular network, [using the Internet] is going to be very slow.âeuro

You should def. wait for the 3g version then smile.gif I won't be using Edge, instead i'll be wi-fi happy.

5. Initial reports indicate that YouTube is slow and crappy using cellular network internet/EDGE. Itâeuro(tm)s nothing like in the commercials.

YouTube use would strictly be for wi-fi use if you want the best experience.

6. You cannot remove its battery. Thanks for replicating one of the biggest complaints about the ipod, Apple!

I guess thats what the warranty is there for.

7. The glass touch screen of the iPhone guarantees that thousands of customers who drop their phones will have cracked screens.

Hmm, i read otherwise -- individuals that have tested the phone found the screen rock solid.

8. The touchscreen keyboard sucks, according to those who have used the phone.

Can't really disagree or agree on this one, perhaps a Treo would better suit your needs?

9. It canâeuro(tm)t send MMS picture messages.

Not too important for me, but perhaps this would be a function apple could include in a firmware update.

10. The camera has little or no options, and the pictures it takes arenâeuro(tm)t very good.

its a 2 MB camera, what are you expecting? My Nokia 6300 has a 2mb camera! If you want top of the range go buy an SLR!

wow, I'm not going to go on...because the whining goes on and on...must be a complete anti-apple fanboy!

some people can never be satisfied -- if you're not happy, don't buy it! or wait for iphone 2.0!
