To be fair to the telco, they incurred upfront costs when they signed you to the plan with a discounted device. If they allow you to move to a cheaper plan, they may find it difficult if not impossible to recover that "investment"...
Moral of the story, don't sign to a contracted plan... Not when call plans are getting cheaper all the time...

In Q1 2016, Digi’s postpaid service revenue registered a growth of 6.9% year-on-year and 3.1% quarter-on-quarter while its postpaid subscriber base strengthened 8.2% year -on- year to 1.9 million subscribers. Postpaid internet subscribers increased to 1.5 million, representing 80.3% of the company’s postpaid subscriber base and contributed to sequentially higher postpaid internet revenue of RM207 million (Q42015: RM197 million). Despite challenged by
theindustry’s aggressive internet quotas and low entry postpaid plans, Digi’s postpaid ARPU remained solid at RM80 over a larger subscriber base.

Just received a text message from Digi:

QUOTE
Stay active and enjoy RM5 rebate/month in the next 12months! Just subscribe at http://digi.my/21RM5 by 30/4. More rewards to come!

Which leads me to this page:
Renewal Rebates RM5 | Digi - Let's Inspire

Basically Digi wants to tie you in for 1 year in exchange for RM60 off (less churn for them). Seeing that there is so much happening in the telco scene right now, I think I'll hold off until things settle down. Who knows what other goodies might be coming along in the next few months.

Hi everyone,

Just a quick question about the link below:
http://new.digi.com.my/services/easy-payment-plan

If I sign up for a device + plan, I only pay the upfront and the monthly installment with no other charges after that? For example, the Digi Postpaid 68 with a Note 5 means I pay only RM200 + a monthly installment of RM91. This covers both the phone and the call plan?

Am i eligible for an upgrade or not? Sorry for asking cause I'm really not sure.

I had this rebate, the penalty fee is only RM50. It is worth it to pay and change to cheaper plan anytime.
