If you've FT-60R or any radio with a wide-band receiver, you know what that scan function is I believe smile.gif So, scan all you want .. do search on the Net if you want the marine bands.. there must be a standard frequency for marine. But remember, you've signed the statutory declaration infront of Commissioner of Oath, anything that you heard is For Your Ears only..

Alamak wiraone, I got that TH-F7E too but I can't hear anything on SSB. You plug in a super long dipole?
*
The TH-F7E is not mine .. so, I haven't test it out .. it is my daughter's smile.gif Anyway, to monitor on SSB .. yes, you could either have a dipole .. or may be just a long wire. Have a long wire (those thick earth/grounding wire will do) .. length, depends .. you can have ether quarter or half wave-length.. so, if you're interested on 40m, you could have a 10m long wire up on the air ... spare few meters to connect it to your HT as a feed line. Now, since your HT has SMA connector, you may want to have PL259 to SMA.. just push in the wire into the middle/core of the PL259 connector and tune to 3.50MHz upward for 40M band, remember to set the mode to LSB.. if you could hear those Indonesian talking to each others.. then you're good smile.gif

I've heard about this V24 antenna, I believe this is a vertical antenna. And has 4 separate rods which you need to connect them up and most probably this is 4*5/8-wave on VHF.

v24 is a vertical antenna, & it is 1 of the popular antenna for base station that is made in thailand. Said to have the most highest gain for a vertical antenna...A lot of my ham friends here in perlis are using v24 antenna for their base station, even 1 of 9M2RMK repeater's antenna is a v24

Ah.. smile.gif Anyway, will try with my new CP-6 and see if I could get anything from the HT. I've the 3 element 10M yagi which .. as you may know, it is impossible to put it up without raising attention to the neighbours which I guess will put up a petition in no time for it to be brought down. May be will put it up at my parent's house at kampung and play with it when I get back home ..

Psst, do it my way. Put it up quietly at 6-7am sunday morning. Once its up like 20-30ft away from your roof, optically it will not look like its hanging over your neighbours. whistling.gif

You might want to think into a proper base antenna like the reasonably priced F23. About RM400. How much is the V24? I don't really like mobile antenna setup for home base, mobile antenna cannot stand too long in our super hot sun and rain.

CrazyGhost stop going McD for a month and the extra RM80 will get you a nice F23 antenna. The diamond F23 or fondly known as the fokker is about RM380 locally. This comes with a nicely designed groundplane. Will beat any mobile setup. drool.gif

FYI santacruzer, i very seldom go to McD because there are none in the area where i am studying, then instead of a F23 antenna why not i homebrew 1 myself or just use the slim jim i have here, & the cost is very much cheaper (slimjim RM60), plus performance wise is it roughly the same for me unless i go on to other modes either than normal simplex & using the available repeater

Actually there are 2 models to think over...

Either FT-8800R or FT-8900R... the price difference is only RM100~200.

FT8900-R has quad band with addition of 10 metres & 6 metres on top of 2 metres and 70cm. But all are limited to FM mode.

Anyone here in Penang with experience on using 10 metres & 6 metres on FM? I heard 10m & 6m are of no use on FM.

6m and 10m on FM good for pirates icon_rolleyes.gif cos nobody monitors that area and if you are talking about mobile, then antenna in this area also limited.

8800 = separated memory oppose to shared memory on 8890
