Try not to venture into the UHF freq like the 477.xxx
The cost of setting up a UHF base station is horrible. Cabling have to be top notch and short. Stick to nice VHF heheh

You could get the non-ori mic from ebay. Bought few from the ebay and quite satisfy with the quality and the price is half of the one sold here.

How long do u have to wait for the items to arrive? Do you bid or do you 'buy now'? Im looking for a cheap straight key and found some but have no confidence to deal. 8 Dollars for a straight key is cheap..

I ordered mine from HK, usually the items reached me in a week time. Since it is a low value items, don't really care .. Anyway, my APRS tracker that I ordered from Argent Data is still not in my hands yet. No idea where it stuck at.. if it is stuck at the customs, they might issued a yellow/orange letter but none whatsoever. Arghh.. there goes my RM sad.gif

Added on February 26, 2009, 10:11 amLow value items usually didn't get checked & taxed. Did at least five transactions on ebay already.

Got this in my email this morning...

CODE

Hi fellow hunters,
There will be a No Frills ARDF Training Hunt on this coming Sunday 8th Morning.

Date : Sunday Morning . 8th March 2009.
Time : 9:00 am
Venue : Botanical Gardens, Penang. Meet up at the car park next to Kraft Batik Sdn Bhd.
Mode : VHF F2A
Freq. : 144.5/144.8 MHz

Note : This is a no frills hunt. Bring your own drinks and hunting equipment.

Purpose:

   * Let the foxes out for fresh air after being in hibernation through the winter period.
   * To test and calibrate new hunting equipments.
   * Re-evaluate the two or three difficult fox dens which had been giving much difficulties in the past hunts.
   * Opportunity for new comers to try out ARDF under non-competition conditions. (Chance to have hands-on feel in this radiosport)

Please inform others who are not in the email listing.

Rubber ducky is an omnipole antenna, it captures signal from all around it.. Not good for directional finding .. though you could use some aluminium foil to cover part of it so it could be directional. Yagi type of antenna is still the choice of many fox hunters + attenuator and a frequency shifting device.
