Arms trade has always been a major money maker for France, and they really need it now. Australia is really putting its money where its mouth is. Does it really see a threat from China?

CIA Operation "Wizard of Oz": Terminate VMRO Leadership - Part 1

user posted image

QUOTE
Macedonia found out about the attempted coup, the blackmails and wiretapping straight from its Prime Minister, Nikola Gruevski after he was visited by the opposition leader Zoran Zaev with the now infamous statement "We were given wiretapped conversations, if you don't leave your post we'll play these to the public"
QUOTE
This all changed after Macedonian police uncovered communications between foreign agent Zoran Verushevski and his coca-cola assistants in DBK in which he told them of a Ukrainian scenario under way
QUOTE
We're in the second phase of Macedonian regime change, an operation the CIA is calling "The Wizard of Oz"
QUOTE
The "Umbrella" is. Our typical symbolism of an umbrella is of an item that protects you from the rain
QUOTE
An "Umbrella" is a code word of a military-intelligence operation to prepare an area for destabilization. As a symbol first appeared in Italy back in 1904. This, the schemas, matrix and other conditions are nicely explained by Curzio Malaparte in his book "Technique du coup d`etat"
QUOTE
The handle is the coup sonsor, the stretcher and the wires are the logistical and operational support, whereas the canopy are the lowest level, the so called protesters (mercenaries, criminals, the naive, fanatics, pyschos, narcos... whoever wants to make a quick buck)
QUOTE
The brain of this hybrid war is a national security advisor and CIA officer in president Obama's cabinet. The Umbrella's button is pressed by former ambassador Philip Reeker and his wife who are both CIA agents
QUOTE
In Macedonia, Soros and USAid finance the "fighters" from Canvas and the Sorosites from "Open Society", in addition to Zaev and Kosovo based criminals and terrorists
QUOTE
Germany, Italy, France, Holland, the EU and OSCE take a smaller part in the Umbrella. They are tasked with logistics, in particularly media propaganda and decor so the protests can gain international weight
QUOTE
The fight is which American oligarchy will rule with Macedonia's natural resources: mines, gold, rivers, lakes. The ultra rich mine of Alshar in particular is seen as a big prize. It is enough for now to tell you that one of the candidates is George Soros
QUOTE
Our sources explained that the CIA has studied VMRO's revolutionary tactics since the Ottoman period. For two reasons, the first is to better prepare for an internal conflict with the establishment, while the second is to implement the same tactic when destabilizing the next country

QUOTE
Around 125 nautical miles from the Malaysian coast in the South China Sea, Hitchcock, the newly-minted commander of the carrier strike group led by the USS John C. Stennis, says his ships have been engaged on almost a “twenty four-seven basis” with a “completely professional” People’s Liberation Army Navy
QUOTE
Flanked by three destroyers, and with a guided missile cruiser also in the strike group, the John C. Stennis doesn’t need to venture into waters claimed by China to send a message
QUOTE
But it doesn’t extend to groups including the coast guard, and with China increasingly using its coast guard in the South China Sea as a de facto navy, security analysts have warned of the increased risk of a clash
QUOTE
Hitchcock is among the senior navy officers urging coast guards to develop a similar code. “It’s an absolutely reasonable way to make sure we are number one understanding each other and communicating our intent

From Russia With Love: Vietnam Gets Fighting Gepard From Moscow

user posted image

QUOTE
Project 1166.1 Gepard 3.9 class frigates are designed to engage surface ships, submarines and air targets, both independently and as part of a task force, as well as to perform escort and patrol tasks.

The ships have a displacement of 2,200 tons, a length of 102 meters, a maximum speed of 23 knots, a crew of 103 and a cruising range of 5,000 miles.

The frigates are armed with an Uran-E anti-ship missile system, an AK-176M 76.2-mm gun, a Palma air defense artillery system, two AK-630M 30-mm gun mounts and 533-mm torpedo tubes. It can also carry a Ka-28 or a Ka-31 Helix naval helicopter.

Together with the country's recently ordered six Kilo class submarines and Su-30MK2 naval fighter-bombers, the Gepard deal is seen as part of Vietnam's current naval modernization drive.

Islamic State Might Finally Be Arming Its Women

user posted image

QUOTE
The stories coming out of Syria and Iraq tend to portray the women who live under Islamic State rule as serving only “sedentary” and domestic roles or as part of a “sexual jihad” in which they marry ISIS fighters or act as “comfort women.”
QUOTE
In early 2014, ISIS had established two all-female armed brigades — the Al Khansaa Brigade and the Umm Al Rayan Brigade — to serve in Syria and Iraq
QUOTE
The Umm Al Rayan Brigade helps to guard checkpoints and search for men who attempt to sneak past by disguising themselves as women
QUOTE
In December Al Khansaa agents reportedly found a woman breastfeeding a baby under a tree in Raqqa. They took the woman’s baby and then “mutilated” and killed the women, even though she had kept her breasts and her baby hidden underneath her burqa throughout the feeding
QUOTE
Women from the Al Khansaa and Umm Al Rayan Brigades also reportedly guard and manage brothels where sex slaves, primarily Yazidi women and girls, are forced to have sex with ISIS fighters returning from battle
QUOTE
In June of 2015, dozens of ISIS militants disguised themselves as Kurdish fighters to infiltrate the town of Kobani and go on a killing spree
QUOTE
“They were disguised as Kurdish forces and had women disguised with them, too,”
QUOTE
Up to 300 people died in the raid

The CIA Kidnapper Facing Jail In Italy

user posted image

QUOTE
ROME — Former CIA employee Sabrina De Sousa, now fighting extradition from Portugal to Italy, was skiing on a mountainside far away from the action, on Feb. 17, 2003, when Hassan Mustafa Osama Nasr was snatched off a street in Milan on his way to the mosque. The cleric, known as Abu Omar, was first flown by executive jet to Germany and then to Cairo, where he was tortured for nearly seven months, according to his own testimony and Amnesty International accounts
QUOTE
The CIA was grabbing suspected terrorists from all over the world and shipping them to various countries, including Bashar Assad’s Syria, Muammar Gaddafi’s Libya, and Hosni Mubarak’s Egypt, to suffer the tortures of the damned and in some cases execution
QUOTE
Abu Omar’s kidnapping took place only weeks before the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq, when the Bush administration was anxious to prove some link between Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein and the 9/11 attacks. (None existed.)
QUOTE
Italian authorities, backed by the CIA, believed he was plotting to blow up a busload of American students who attended an international high school in Milan
QUOTE
Whether out of urgency, arrogance, or incompetence, Abu Omar’s CIA kidnappers acted like the gang that couldn’t shoot straight. The team, which included at least 18 people, believed the Italian secret services under Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi had signed off on the operation
QUOTE
A woman witnessing the snatch had told authorities and, most damning of all, Abu Omar got out of his Egyptian prison after many months in hell, called his wife in Milan and told her what had happened. Since her phone was bugged, that went into the records of the investigating magistrates, and everything started to unravel
QUOTE
In a stunning example of poor-to-nonexistent tradecraft, the kidnapping team had left a trail of phone calls, hotel records, and other clues that let Italian investigators pull together a phenomenally detailed picture of their activities as the CIA operatives stayed in Milan’s best hotels, feted the birthday of a younger woman on the team at a beach resort, then scattered to more first-class hotels, including the Danieli in Venice, after the deed was done
QUOTE
But the one thing the kidnap team didn’t leave behind was a list of their legal names. So, virtually the only people the court was able to identify definitively were those in the military (which handled the flight out), those working under diplomatic cover in Rome, including then-CIA station chief Jeffrey Castelli, and those in Milan, including the senior officer there, Robert Seldon Lady, and, yes, Sabrina De Sousa
QUOTE
Lady was convicted in absentia, lost his house in Italy, saw his marriage fall apart, and retired to Panama only to be picked up and held there, briefly, on an international warrant
QUOTE
In 2015, De Sousa, a naturalized American who was born in India and who has a Portuguese passport (her family is from the former Portuguese colony of Goa), defied warnings by the U.S. State department not to travel to Europe where she could be picked up on a European arrest warrant and sent to Italy to serve the prison term
QUOTE
De Sousa told us in 2009 she was “saddened, dismayed, and angered that the government I served abandoned me completely and I am being punished for conduct I did not do.”
QUOTE
Although the publicity surrounding her case now labels her a participant in a truly infamous CIA operation, ironically, this may be the only way she can clear her name

Myanmar military helicopter crashes, 2 pilots rescued

user posted image

QUOTE
A military helicopter crashed into a reservoir in Myanmar during a training exercise Tuesday and both pilots were rescued by fishermen,
the armed forces newspaper reported.

The Myawaddy newspaper said on its Facebook page that the Bell helicopter crashed into the reservoir after taking off from Meiktila airport in central Myanmar.

Meiktila is about 510 kilometers (315 miles) north of Yangon, the country’s main city. Myawaddy said both pilots received minor injuries.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.

Clashes continue in Deir Ezzor city as ISIS and Syrian Army trade blows over al-Sina’ah district

user posted image

Over the past week, the provincial capital of Deir Ezzor has witnessed heavy clashes between the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and ISIS fighters.

Most specifically, the southern district of al-Sina’ah has been the battle ground of huge ongoing skirmishes.

One week ago, the district was captured by ISIS but government forces managed to recapture the entire suburb by next day.

Today, an al-Masdar source based in Deir Ezzor city says that government troops control about 80% of the district with ISIS still present in some of its northern buildings.

He added that 10 SAA troops had been killed during clashes here with dozens injured over the past two weeks of bloody clashes.

The government troops operational in the district are made up by the SAA’s 104th Brigade of the Republican Guard, the SAA’s al-Qassem group (lead by General Ghassan Tarraf) and Sunni fighters of the al-Shaitat tribe.

Al-Sina’ah district holds significant strategic importance as it safeguards the northern entrance to Deir Ezzor Airbase which represents the only way for government supplies to reach the besieged city.

How US Intelligence Gets China Wrong

user posted image

QUOTE
The scenario: North Korea wages war on South Korea, dragging China and the United States into the conflict; nuclear confrontation seems imminent. Military experts from the United States, Japan, China, and Taiwan took part in the simulation
QUOTE
he expresses regret at having encouraged the American government to appease China, and holds the view that Beijing has been secretly deceiving the United States, with the real objective of becoming the next superpower
QUOTE
further testimony from several Chinese undercover agents spying for the United States. He maintains that these Chinese officials are already living in the United States, and uses unidentifiable code names such as Mr. White and Ms. Green
QUOTE
Mr. White’s demand in return for his information was not overly ambitious – a home, a job, and a fake identity. He told the CIA that China had been conceiving an elaborate, long-term plan to become the next superpower after the Great Britain and the United States
QUOTE
Once this is achieved, China will not allow any challenge to its dominance and the United States had better get prepared for it. Mr. White also cold-heartedly sold out several Chinese agents spying for Beijing in the United States
QUOTE
Ms. Green, who also happened to be working for the CIA at the time, told a rather different story: that leaders in Beijing are honest in their intention to befriend the United States. The so-called hardliners in China are merely a few marginalized, low-level military officers, and shouldn’t be taken too seriously
QUOTE
Ms. Green never provided any information that could be verified, nor did she reveal the identity of any Chinese agents spying for Beijing in the United States. As a condition for her service, Ms. Green demanded payment of $2 million
QUOTE
Pillsbury and other China experts in the CIA were torn between the contradictory information and assessments of Mr. White and Ms. Green, but eventually decided to cold-shoulder Mr. White while paying the bill for Ms. Green
QUOTE
Ms. Green was later arrested on suspicion of working as a double agent for China, leading Pillsbury to face a difficult question – which was more harmful to the United States – the information Ms. Green gave to Washington, or the information she fed to Beijing?
QUOTE
The world of espionage is by definition full of deceit, and some defectors tend to exaggerate in order to be seen as relevant
QUOTE
confirmation from Ms. Tang that Beijing indeed has a plan to overtake the United States economically in a piecemeal fashion, and to become a political superpower. To this end, the CPC has been systematically training leaders in the Central Party School, and these doctrines appear in the teaching materials as well
QUOTE
Does China really need a secret long-term plan to overtake the United States’ economy? This is discussed almost every day by all the party-endorsed media outlets. And even if China does want to challenge the superpower’s economic dominance, what exactly is wrong with that?
QUOTE
Based on these examples, it seems U.S. analysts are drawn to defectors and intelligence sources who tell them what they already think they know – regardless of whether it reflects reality or not

SYRIAN T-72 TACTICS AND THE TOW

QUOTE
In the now-ubiquitous YouTube video, a man and his assistant scramble to jam a drab-looking canister into what looks like a giant camera array atop a tripod. After the tube is secured in place, the viewer’s perspective inevitably switches to a gun-camera-style shot. Amidst the background of frantic utterances and roiling heat waves, a click is heard, followed by a whoosh and then the orb of fire dances into frame, growing smaller while approaching its unfortunate target
QUOTE
As much as these grim reels betray the state of contemporary armored tactics being employed by the beleaguered SAA, they fail to capture the dynamic, often impromptu tactics devised in the early years of the conflict. Both SAA armored paradigms, in context with the T-72, will be examined in this article
QUOTE
The T-72 Tank

The bulk of the SAA’s Armored Divisions are filled out with the Russian T-72 MBT; specifically the T-72M and T-72M1. As such, the T-72 serves as the central character in a two act theater of war. The T-72 is a grizzled veteran of over 25 conflicts and has served in the armies of 40 countries. Elite units in the SAA, such as the Republican Guard and 4th Armored Division, have T-72 upgraded with Elementy Dinamcheskoi Zashchity (EDZ) or “Dynamic Protection Elements.” This tiled armor presents a scaly visage and helps protect the crew from high explosive anti-tank (HEAT) rounds.
QUOTE
The 2011 Syrian Conflict is not the first implementation of Syrian T-72s on the battlefield. In the 1982 Lebanon War, Syrian T-72s engaged Israeli M-60 tanks, recording minimal losses from tank fire in exchange. As if to foreshadow the plight of SAA tankers in 2014-2016, an estimated 11-12 of the T-72 losses reported by the Syrian Army in 1982 were credited to Israeli TOW missile teams
QUOTE
Early Tactics and Formations: 2011-2014

SAA tactics between 2011 and 2014 included extensive employment of the column and staggered column. Both of these formations helped minimize losses from RPG by maximizing exposure of the 560mm and 490mm of frontal turret and hull armor, respectively. The staggered column usually featured a pair of tanks; one lead tank which was trailed by one or more tanks on overwatch with overlapping “fields of fire.” In some cases where infantry insertions were needed, BMP-2 AFVs would join the T-72-lead formation.

The benefit of a staggered column for T-72 crews in urban environments was a matter of capitalizing on risk. The lead tank took on the lion’s share of the risk while relying on those behind to provide close overwatch. In the example below, from the superb efforts of war correspondent Andrey Filatov, this tactic’s benefit can be seen to good effect from the perspective of a trailing T-72 driver.

user posted image

QUOTE
The lead T-72 can be seen in the trailing driver’s periscope. Immediately above and to the right of the lead tank, a flash appears. An RPG narrowly misses the lead tank. Suddenly, the driver’s perspective swings to the left, towards the source of the missile

user posted image

QUOTE
A small cloud of smoke and dust betrays the attackers in the center of the above image. The primary benefit of the column and staggered column is realized when trailing vehicles are able to identify points of contact from which their lead vehicle is being engaged.

Even as recent as 2016, after the introduction of the TOW, the SAA can still be seen performing a leap-frogging pattern of formation changes while assaulting an intersection in Damascus, Jobar District. The SAA have enjoyed some respite from US-provided advanced weaponry due to continual efforts to cut rebel supply lines leading to the capital city. The result is an unprecedented look at how the Syrian Armored elements execute a series of formation changes, reminiscent of pre-TOW days, from aerial drone videographers, russiaworks.ru:

user posted image

QUOTE
Step 1: Tank A provides overwatch for threats engaging Tank B. While Tank A’s field of fire is limited, the risk posed to the crew is also minimized due to buildings and walls flanking the vehicle. Meanwhile, Tank B is able to scan a wider range of territory, while offering only its frontal and angled side armor as a viable target

user posted image

QUOTE
Step 2: Tank A moves up to Tank B, creating a line formation where overlapping fields of fire cover similar perspectives. The right flank of Tank A is protected by Tank B and the left flank of Tank B is in turn protected by Tank A

user posted image

QUOTE
Step 3: Tank A takes point while Tank B provides overwatch, sweeping the threat area to its immediate front. In this manner, the tanks progress forward

user posted image

QUOTE
Step 4: Nearly out of view beneath the video overlay, Tank B joins Tank A in a line formation to guard a choke point running central to their field of fire

QUOTE
Defensive Tactics: 2014-2016

In April of 2014, nine anti-government groups were equipped with BGM-71E missiles, capable of striking targets 3,750 meters away and defeating EDZ armor. Numerous gangs, including ISIS, obtained TOW launchers and ammunition through trade and conquest.  As a result, the Syrian tankers experienced a shocking period of losses during 2014-2015. The long range capability of TOWs combined with a dwindling number of operational T-72s may have led the SAA to adopt more conservative tactics. While understandable, these tactics during the Northwestern Syria Offensive (April–June 2015) did little to stem the losses from terrorist TOW missile teams. In the example below, anti-government forces open fire on defensively positioned T-72s from beyond the tank’s effective range:

user posted image

QUOTE
The tanks above are “sky-lining.” While the hill affords superior visibility, it also provides clarity for TOW gunners locating targets against the stark, desert sky. Seconds after this frame, the tank on the right erupts into flames from a TOW strike

user posted image

QUOTE
In the center of the picture, the dark silhouette of an SAA tank guarding a northern front is seconds away from disaster. Forced to take defensive positions, the SAA tankers could never guarantee their own safety from the threat of TOW missiles. In the open, advancing vehicles fared even worse

user posted image

QUOTE
Another frame grabbed from the footage of Andrey Filatov. The T-72 is used by the SAA as a mobile barrier, bravely protecting the walking wounded as they evacuate in Al-Qaboun

Iran unveils new main battle tank made from US and Chinese designs from the 1960s

user posted image

Earlier this month, Iran unveiled a new main battle tank, the Tiam, that appears to be a mashup of Chinese and US tanks from the 1960s, The Diplomat reports.

The tank appears to have the main hull and engine of the US’ M47M Patton, a variation of the M47 Patton made in the early 1960s, and the turret of China’s type 59/69 tank, first produced in 1958.

The Tiam sports a 105mm rifled main cannon, slightly underpowered when compared to the 120mm cannons found on US and German tanks, or the 125mm cannons found on newer Russian tanks.

When the tank was unveiled in a public ceremony on April 13, it came out partially covered in explosive reactive armor bricks, and spewing thick black smoke from it’s engine, which was designed more than half a century ago.

The tank appears to have no radar or active defense modules, the trend now in ground combat vehicles.

The roll out on the 13th included a few other Iranian-built vehicles, including a self-propelled 57 mm air defence system called the Bahman, and a nuclear, biological, and chemical detection (NBC) vehicle called the Shahram, IHS Janes reports.

Another Iranian tank, the Karrar, which Iranian Brig. Gen. Hossein Dehghan says is “100% Iranian made and it can even be superior than T-90 in some degrees,” according to Iran’s Mehr News Agency.

Meanwhile, Russia is on track to offer the Armata series of tanks and armored vehicles, and there are plenty of other options on the market, so Iran’s Tiam tank seems to have dubious prospects as an export.

China, Indonesia to boost security ties despite South China Sea spat

user posted image

Chinese and Indonesian officials pledged to boost security ties, marine cooperation and infrastructure investment, state media reported on Tuesday, after a diplomatic spat over what Indonesia called a breach of its sovereignty by the Chinese coastguard.

The report came after a meeting between Chinese State Councillor Yang Jiechi, who outranks the foreign minister, and Indonesia's chief security minister Luhut Pandjaitan. Pandjaitan is visiting China this week.

The two countries will strengthen defence ties including in anti-terrorism, law enforcement, curbing narcotics, as well as "marine cooperation", according to the official Xinhua news agency.

Jakarta and Beijing will also work together in the fields of railway, electric power, mining, aerospace, agriculture and fisheries, Xinhua added.

user posted image

Indonesia attempted to detain a Chinese trawler it accused of fishing in its exclusive economic zone in the South China Sea, prompting the Chinese coastguard to intervene last month. China has said its vessels were operating in "traditional fishing grounds".

Indonesia is not embroiled in the rival claims with China over the South China Sea and has instead seen itself as an "honest broker" in disputes between China and the Philippines, Malaysia and Brunei.

Pandjaitan has previously said Indonesia would maintain good relations with China but "without sacrificing Indonesia's sovereignty", and had urged Chinese ships not to enter Indonesia's maritime territory near the northern Natuna Islands, where Indonesia said the incident took place.

China's increasingly assertive military posture in the South China Sea, a strategic shipping corridor that is also rich in fish and natural gas, has rattled the United States and its allies in Southeast Asia.
